The New York Times–bestselling saga: In nineteenth-century Ireland, a titled English family keeps an estate in an era of famine and violent conflict. When Edward de Salis travels to America after the death of his first wife, he is astonished to find himself falling in love with Marguerite, a young woman many years his junior. Full of hope for the future, he returns to his Irish estate, … Irish estate, Cashelmara, but in nineteenth-century Ireland—a country racked by poverty and famine—his family eventually becomes trapped in a sinister spiral of violence that Edward could never have foreseen. Cashelmara follows the fortunes of three generations as they struggle to survive both the tragedies of history and their own chaotic lives. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Susan Howatch including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the author’s personal collection.

Loved this book…
I rarely delete a book before I finish it, But, this one I did. There was not one redeeming character in this entire book. It was about 90% completed before the end and I just couldn’t take it anymore. I really don’t care how it ended.
Read this more than once over the years!
I enjoyed the generational stories of this book. Also loved Penmaric
Started good but I grew tired of it
Read this book when I was much younger but did not appreciate it like I did then
Writing as good, but it read like a history prof wrote it. I tried several times to get into and just could not.
A fun read for all ages.
Provides great history of Ireland and England in the 1800’s
didn’t finish this book, it just kept going on and on and going nowhere. I got bored
I kept wanting the characters to make good decisions… do the right thing… thankfully some did; I’d think about them when I wasn’t reading the story, it was a long book, hard to push through it.
Fantastic story based on actual English history.
Good read.
I liked it because each section of he book was told from the point of view of a different character. I like books that show how different characters perceive the same events.
I LOVED this book at the sequel.
Hard to follow at times.
Don’t do it very often but gave up on the book after a hundred pages. Just left me cold.
Kept my interest through the entire book!
The author manages to hold your interest due to her attention to detail and informative descriptions of people, places and events.
A long book (I love long books)…700 or so pages. Just okay till about midway, and then the story REALLY takes off. Stick with it, you won’t be sorry!
