The New York Times–bestselling saga: In nineteenth-century Ireland, a titled English family keeps an estate in an era of famine and violent conflict. When Edward de Salis travels to America after the death of his first wife, he is astonished to find himself falling in love with Marguerite, a young woman many years his junior. Full of hope for the future, he returns to his Irish estate, … Irish estate, Cashelmara, but in nineteenth-century Ireland—a country racked by poverty and famine—his family eventually becomes trapped in a sinister spiral of violence that Edward could never have foreseen. Cashelmara follows the fortunes of three generations as they struggle to survive both the tragedies of history and their own chaotic lives. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Susan Howatch including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the author’s personal collection.

It’s been so long since I read this book. I know it was a page turner and held my attention throughout
One of my favorites. All her books are great.
Very good on history of Ireland, England and US in 1850+ and good with Irish -English relations.
Terrific, multi-generational family saga — long and involving. Not sure they make ’em like this anymore!
I love historical fiction. This book was a snore fest. I stuck it out because of the historical period and setting. Reader beware.
I loved this novel. Some reviewers where turned off by the length of the book but I enjoy historical novels that transcend several generations.
One of Susan Howatch’s best next to PENMARRIC! Great generational saga.
Historical novel/soap opera
An excellent read! I enjoyed how the author took the individual characters in her novel and dedicated chapters to these characters. She gave the reader insights to the characters through these chapters. I also enjoyed the historical setting and how she wove historical facts into the story. It was a tragic time in history and a tragic time for …
The author’s character development is fantastic. She is a great story teller!
I liked it. I like the format, following different characters in the family down through the generations.
Good read, except for Drummond. I did not like him
Great long read.
Intense, good political background of the times and how they affect the lives of individuals, effective dialogue, powerful images
If you liked Downton Abby, you’ll like Cashelmara!
I’m a fan of this author and have read many of her books. Love them
This was a great book. It’s told in several “persons” making it even more interesting. The ending left a little to be desired, but well worth the read. It held my interest every minute. I read it in 4 days. A little of everything for everyone.
I loved gothic novels when I was in my 20’s. They never disappoint. Handsome brooding man, beautiful young woman and always lots of dark secrets, lies and danger.
I don’t often say this but I didn’t like or enjoy this book. The families sagas were ongoing and unbelievably poor.
Rather slow and dull. Very drawn out and uninteresting
