Cash is a car mechanic with a secret. Head down, sleeves up, he hides from the past as much as his shattered heart, until a reluctant stumble into a Tottenham bar ends in the one night stand of his dreams.Hunt saboteur Rae can’t believe his luck when he wakes up the next morning. Cash is gorgeous, and the hottest hook up he’s ever had. He doesn’t expect to see him again, until a twist of fate … of fate lands him on Cash’s doorstep a few months later.
United by a cause that’s broken Cash before, they are drawn together. They have more in common than they ever imagined, but with Cash haunted by the past, and Rae so tangled in the present, it’s not long before love isn’t enough to keep them alive.

I was given a free arc copy from the author and the GRR arc team for review.
Again I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it. This one actually made me appreciate the first one a little bit more. After reading the first book I was interested in Cash who worked as a mechanic with Lucky. I had no idea who he was going to be paired with and the blurb was vague but given that it’s a sports trilogy I wrongly assumed it would be someone from Doms world. Instead Cash is paired with a wildlife activist who he totally randomly meets on a hookup. They don’t discuss anything personal and Cash doesn’t expect to see him again but when Rae who is fighting or “Slabbing” to stop a local fox hunt needs more men. He is given 2 names to locate and one happens to be Cash. Turns out Cash use be an expert at Slabbing.
The topic of hunting is the sport part. Though I find it horrifying that people can kill animals in this manner for fun or whatever reason and call it a sport. I love animals so I can appreciate Raes fight but there was so much detailed focus on the task that I kind of lost interest. It’s a noble cuase just not interesting enough for plot IMO. I didn’t feel the characters were developed enough and didn’t feel the chemisty like Lucky and Dom had. Too much focus on the plot and not enough on them. This one was slightly more angsty then the first book but not by much and it was way milder in heat.
Overall it was just ok and I wouldn’t read it again and I prob wouldn’t recommend this one but I’m still interested enough to continue reading the series. I’m looking forward to finding out more about Isha who was Doms manager in book 1.
TW/CW: animal cruelty (not from MCs, they are trying to prevent it), physical abuse from one of the side characters
It’s not Garrett Leigh’s book if it doesn’t have angst and realistic and difficult themes, right? But this one, this one was especially hard. Honestly, if you ask me, even What Remains was easier to read.
In the first book, Lucky, we follow a football player. In this one? We follow saboteurs of illegal fox hunts. To tell the truth, I was one of the people who believed that if it is outlawed, people don’t do it. And I don’t know why I believed that, since well, we all know people break the rules all the time, don’t they? Especially rich people who think they can get away with everything.
Cash has a difficult past, which is why he finds it hard to trust, and when his one night stand turns to be connected to his past in a way, things get complicated.
Saboteuring fox hunts isn’t an easy thing to do, especially when rich people have a bunch of connections, and it shows. There are a lot of descriptions of sabs trying to ruin the hunt and honestly, this doesn’t leave a whole lot for romance. But it is there, and I thought it was fitting to the content of the book.
There are a lot of Dom and Lucky cameos…if you can call them cameos, actually. While the book isn’t focused on them, they are an important part of it. They support Cash and are there to help even when it gets darker, and they are prepared to help Rae and his group of sabs when they get to know them a bit better via Cash. Lucky even wants to help with participating in saboteuring hunts! So, they are quite an important part, and I loved it.
I have enjoyed all of Garrett Leigh’s books before, and this one wasn’t the exception, even though it was, as I said, almost harder to read than any other. From what I’ve heard from the author it was also a very hard book to write, but it needed to be written. I think she’s a perfect person to write it! She has also hinted that the next book is almost completely different (again), so I am really looking forward to it!
Cash and Rae were passionate, wild, hot tempered, and wonderful. I loved them and cheered them on as they fought against the illegal hunting of foxes. I knew next to nothing about this practice before reading this book, and I was horrified by the descriptions given of the barbaric activity. Rae and his gang of sabs worked well together, using whatever means they had, to try to save as many of the hunted foxes as they could. When Cash joined them, things just got more scary and intense.
Rae and Cash as a couple were beautiful, as long as they were able to focus on their time together. As soon as other sabs and the latest hunts were involved, the men were at a loss regarding their relationship. Cash had the hardest time in this regard, due to a past I won’t discuss here.
This story was wonderfully written and kept me enthralled from beginning to end. I didn’t know how there could be an ending that would satisfy all my wishes, but I couldn’t stop reading to find out. The characters were believable and heroic, the friendships were strong, and the growing love between Rae and Cash was beautiful. This is a great story!
