From USA Today Bestselling author KL Donn comes the fifth book in the Adair Empire, a dark romance series.Beast, monster, boogeyman. Carver Rivers has been called many things in his lifetime & accused of even more. With single minded focus, he’s the one you want on your side. To fight your battles. Unfeeling and cold Carver grew up battling for freedom, fighting to become the well-known … freedom, fighting to become the well-known killer he is now.
Meeting Meadow Riley, Lilith’s sister, obsessing over her, he never anticipated what fear felt like. A fear so deep, so deadly it consumed him.
After believing the Empire’s enemy is dead, they’re shocked to find Meadow is missing and in need of a dark knighted savior. After finding her, Carver’s desires grew deeper and he longed for the innocent girl to accept the monster lurking beneath his skin.
Meadow aches to be loved as passionately as King loves Lilith. She yearns to be someone’s home, their safety. When Carver steps up claiming his need for her, will Meadow be strong enough to accept their intense desires or will Carver find himself fighting for something he never thought he would?
Love.

The Adair Empire is a dark, graphic, romance series, with more triggers than I can list. Proceed with caution.

I loved Carver and Meadow’s story. It was a dark romance read, filled with angst, a lot of emotional scenes but it was worth reading It also ends with a major cliffhanger that has left me reeling but also anxious to read the last book of the Adair Empire Series!
Loved this book. I waited patiently for Carver and o was not disappointed at all. Reccomend the whole series to be read.
Once again KL has pulled me into a dark and twisted romance story and made me want more. I can’t get enough of this series. I can’t get enough of these men.
OH MY GOSH, CARVER.
I have been so excited for this book. I have been drawn to Carver since I first met him. I’ve been so patient waiting for his story. And KL did not disappoint. This is my favorite of the series, so far.
The amount of possessiveness, protectiveness and alpha maleness that Carver has is off the charts, amazing. OH I LOVE THIS MAN
I don’t think I have ever been so jealous of a book herione. In many ways I see a lot of myself in Meadow. I connected with her instantly. Her innocence, the way she views the world. The way she sees Carver. Did I mention, I FREAKING LOVE CARVER?
I love the way KL writes. She never messes around with the words. If there are side stories in her books, every word she writes eventually means something important to the book or series as a whole.
KL Donn has a way of capturing you hostage with her words and dragging you into an adventure you won’t want to leave. I was weary going into this series. Because.. well…okay fine, I’m fragile. I cry extremely easily and most hardcore stuff just makes me uncomfortable. I don’t really do dark romance. Never liked it. But, I jumped in head first. And I’m so glad I did. She has written these men, ESPECIALLY CARVER, with so much fierceness and the women with so much bravery and acceptance that the dark parts of this series don’t even bother me. In fact, I love it.
I have an idea of where she’s heading with the next book……well, I did anyway until I read that last chapter. Now, I’m just going to go pre-order that beast and hope and pray that how this book ends is not how the next one begins.
This book does end on a PLOT cliffhanger.
I voluntarily reviewed and advanced copy of this book
Carver and Meadows story was more than I could have ever hoped for. It tore me to pieces, I felt for both characters but also other characters for the events that unfolded. This book had me devouring every word, wanting to know how it would unfold. I fell in love with not only Carver and Meadows story but fell a little more in love with their family I’ve come to adore while reading this series. I’m almost sad it’s coming to a conclusion.

I Read this book like I did all the others and let me just say this…..
OMG! I knew Carver was gonna be one of my Favorites and he was! This book like all the rest ends on a STORY CLIFFHANGER just like the author has told us – repeatedly since the beginning. KL Donn gives you in this book a BLOODY EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER of a good time ( because you cant have my man Carver without the bloody ) I will say the ending left me in tears and Pieces and a big Gasping NO! Leaving my mouth and putting my kindle down to just stare off in space shaking my head unable to really grasp that it happened. Not to mention it ended for an Author at a really great flipping time but as a reader a really bad one and you want more more more.. I will say I’m sure a few of us said some not nice things a time or too as you grip your kindle and God help anyone who dares to interrupt you but you know this was the $HIT and that’s how you know the author who wrote a book like this is da absolute BOMB!
Now how the hell to I read a book after that??
So please go pick this bad boy up but I HIGHLY recommend you start at the beginning with
KING,LUTHER,CASTIEL and ATTICUS before you read CARVER.. and I cant wait for GASPING FOR AIR the final in this AMAZING series that I’m sure to do just that as I read it… Gasp for air…
“He’s an addiction I’m not sure I can give up. No matter how much he scares me.”
Carver is controlled chaos, darkly seductive and got me right in my feels!! I love the action, the suspense, and the danger that these short, but explosive little gems always deliver!! The way this one ended had me reeling!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!
“She’s my beauty and I’m her beast. I’m made to protect her from everything but me.”

I have a new love in the Adair Empire series and his name is Carver “f*#king” Rivers!!!! All the men in the Adair Empire series hold a place in my heart, but Carver he owns me. I love everything about this man. From his possessive scary side when it comes to his woman, Meadow, to the almost child-like innocence he has when it comes to how to act with a woman. This book gutted me and then slowly put me back together. It was hard to keep reading at some points because Meadow wasn’t born into the life like the other Adair Empire women. She had a good life, so it made things harder for her to accept right away. The way she tried to push Carver away only to realize he is everything she could ever need. I truly love this series and I knew going in there would be a storyline cliffhanger at the end of each book. That said I can only say that I was left “Grasping For Air” at the end of this book and will be on pins and needles until the next book is released. The next book is cleverly named Grasping For Air and should be released sometime in late July 2018. If you haven’t read the Adair Empire series, do so now it is a series not to be missed. Might I suggest you start with King the first book in the series. KL Donn you have a devious, beautiful mind and I look forward to reading more from you soon.
Carver
Nicely done! Carver was all that and more, we knew he was a Sadistic beast that had a thirst for blood ans pain but it wasn’t till he met Meadow did he realize he was drowning and she was his light lighting the way back to her, love it
Carver and Meadow’s book took the intensity up a notch but then Carver is a force to be reckoned with. Meadow’s sweetness is the perfect balm for Carter and his devotion is limitless. I was desperate for these two to get their happy ever after, they both deserved that so much. The stories just keep getting better and better and that is saying a lot. This series has made it onto my re-read list, it is just that good. I can’t wait to dive into the next book!
Absolutely fantastic book. Loved Carver and Meadow and the sexy hotness between the two.
I have successfully made it through the first five Adair Empire books without puking. With that being said, Carver pushed my weak stomach’s limits. How, you ask? Let’s just say I will never look at a rainbow the same again. Sweet Jesus. However, through the gore and the intensity that only Carver’s story could bring, came a love story that shines brighter than all the rest.
Story Line: Carver is the resident enforcer or the Adair Empire. It is no secret that he craves blood shed. His best friend is Mercy – his knife. So, yes, I should have been better prepared for the graphic nature of this book. Did I take any of those details into consideration prior to starting? Nope. So within the first couple chapters, I was setting my kindle down to take a breather. Side note – in case you haven’t read my previous reviews of this series – I’m a super big wuss when it comes to blood and gore. Like I was in health class in high school and passed out from a graphic image. Like I said, super big baby. Anyways, once I came back from a certain “rainbow” scene, I could not have stopped reading even if Carver himself was threatening to “filet” me.
What Carver and Meadow share goes far beyond attraction. They are bonded to one another before either of them truly realizes the extent of their feelings. For those of you wondering who the heck this Meadow character is – she’s Lilith’s sister from book 1. So, we know she has a broken past with more drama than anyone her age should ever have to deal with. All she wants is to graduate college. But the villains of the universe do everything they can to squash that dream. The struggle Meadow faces internally is realistic, raw and heart wrenching. I could truly feel her pain and sorrow when faced with unfathomable decisions. Carver’s reaction to all of this? PERFECTION.
Interaction: Building Carver’s character throughout the first four books set a sky high bar for when he finally got to tell his own love story. And it was nothing like I was expecting. I expected painfully rough, demanding to a fault and zero mercy. I was blissfully surprised to see this well rounded development in him. He’s firm with Meadow, don’t get me wrong. But there’s a balance there that I don’t think I expected, nor can I imagine without now. And Meadow is broken sure, but boy does she come to her own by the end of this book. She is a force, that’s for dang sure.
Laundry: So, I had to wait more than 5 chapters for laundry. And as much as I want to throw a 32 year old tantrum over this, I can’t. Because when they do land in Carver’s bed, is exactly what you would expect and not expect. Does that make sense? Of course it doesn’t. It’s like they are the ying and the yang of the world. Soft, pale, sweet, innocent. Versus, dark, sinister, hard and damaged. He’s going to break her right? Quite the opposite. A fire is ignited. And there is no way in Hades it’s ever going to be put out.
Depth: The Adair Empire in itself is enough depth to get me through my next 20 reads. With each passing book in this series that I read, I think I’m finally grasping the enormity of their universe. And then something else or another villain pops up and back to square one I go. But I love that. I love that I’m kept on the edge of my seat wondering, guessing and hoping where the story will lead us next. Each of these strong and malicious men have met their queens. And together they each contribute a necessary piece to their kingdom. Now we wait. We wait for the final piece to complete their story. I cannot freaking wait.
Five dark stars! Let Carver’s darkness engulf you into the depth of his twisted soul and heart of gold.
The first thing that comes to my mind to describe Carver is twisted possessiveness. This book is darkly sizzling! I still feel my cheeks burning. It has the right amount of passion, violence, lust, intensity and quality; all carefully packed in a forbidden masterpiece.
K. L. Donn penned a mighty book in the entire series. On my opinion this book is a piece of darkness entwined with a sweet discovering of unadulterated love and lust. Meadow and Carver are good for each other. They are literally from different worlds but because of a series of connected events their worlds crashed in to each other.
What will you find in this book? You will find a different and unique twisted tale where there is not Charming Price and Princess, there is a broken knight and a damaged doll. Their story is a journey of acceptance and trust. There are shadows and evil hiding in the darkness. It’s the same darkness that seduces Meadow.
The plot is dramatically well developed and the pacing is really fast. The characters, as always, are complex and dark. They have their demons and together they will fight them.
Carver is possessive AF! His soul is dark and stormy and his heart is made of gold. How can a broken knight save a damage doll? Since he met Meadow, he claimed her as his but they came from different worlds. She is light and he is darkness. Meadow is not made for his world (that he though). However he will do everything to claim her as his woman.
The heroine of this book aka Meadow is like a doll. She is quite centred in her future. Her life was never touched by evil until she was abducted. To be saved by a savage murder scared her and made her save at the same time. She already knows that her protector is dangerous. Carver is what nightmares are made of but his darkness tempted her body and heart in a delicious way. In order to accept him in her life and body she will have a closure of her past. She will fight against the broken knight but her body and soul will crave him with such intensity that will scare her.
I have a nice time reading this book. I devoured it whole. It consumed my darkish heart. K. L. Donn delivered a unique piece of heaven. I urge you to start the series now. You will love each of the male characters she created. I’ve never thought that K. L. Donn had a dark side in her beautiful heart. She really nailed it!
Oh my gosh want can I say …. if you have read the previous books in this wonderful series you know that these guys are wonderfully effed up !
This is Carver’s story and what a story !
Like always K.L Donn sucks you in to world of violence family love hot alpha male and wickedness I absolutely loved this series so far and can’t wait for the next instalment……
I warn people that this book like this whole series does have triggers
Carver was the best book in the series!
I’ve been looking forward to his story since the first book, King. It didn’t let me down in the least!
Despite what he does for the empire, he’s the one I would want to save me…and then take me home. 😉
I love this series HARD.
That ending tho…
Holy fawk, the menage queen likes to break hearts. But she’s pretty damn good at putting them back together again too!
I have been waiting for Carver and KL did not disappoint.
Carver is loyal to the end and when he wants something he takes it. He wants Meadow. Once he decides that she is his then he is her protector, her monster.
Meadow is innocent and thrown into a mess by association. She may be innocent and confused but once she moves forward with what her heart already knew, she knows Carver is what she wants. What she needs.
These two have a great story and it was amazing to read.
That ending though. What the… Ugh! May we please have the next book today?
Have you ever read one of those series that your waiting on bated breath for the next release only to binge read the next book and impatiently wait again for the next release? Well, the Adair Empire is that series for me, and KL just keeps sucking me into the dark world with each release. Carver has a special place in my heart because he was the scariest one, but the way that he is and reacts to Meadow just melts me. To see such a big man want to do anything to protect and give his woman, even from his darker side is just ugh sigh worthy. I want to be his Mindy Mine lol. Now, I will impatiently wait for Gasping for Air, as I have to see what she has in store for the remaining characters. KL we know you love torturing us while we wait, no worries, I love your kind of torture!!
Ah KL Donn, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. (Warning: This review contains no spoilers but it does contain squealing fangirling).
I’ve made no bones about my total love and adoration for this series, and each book gets better and better. It started with King, where you weren’t quite sure what you were getting yourself into, then we got something darker in Luther (I’m going to reiterate everytime I do a review for this series: Luther’s mine kthxbye), we got bloody in Castiel, wicked in Atticus, and then we got psychotic in Carver. By the time King was over, I was hooked, and now I’m addicted. I’m not sure what Grasping for Air will bring, but I am SO READY/HERE FOR IT.
So let’s go over all the reasons I love Carver, my little sociopath, and Meadow’s story.
One– His absolute obsession with Meadow knows no bounds, yet he tries to respect her wants and wishes- even when he doesn’t agree with them.
Two– He has absolutely no idea what it means to be with a woman, and what would scare a woman or not, and yet he tries to do everything possible to make Meadow want him (and if that doesn’t just break your heart you are heartless.)
Three– Meadow is not born into the life, is not strong like the other women in the series are, yet she accepts Carver and all of his psychotic tendencies, though it takes her a minute.
Four– These two are special to each other, for special reasons, and it’s literally the greatest thing ever.
Five– THE DRAMA. What the heck was all of that???
Six– I question KL Donn and her mental state, but I thank her for it because everything about this bloody masterpiece was so amazing.
Seven– I don’t know how to stay true to a psychopath is possible, but KL matched up a psycho and basically a cute little bunny, and made you want to wrap them in a blanket and keep them safe forever so no one can ever hurt them again.
What do I hate about this? HOW DARE YOU LEAVE ME LIKE THIS. I know there’s a warning about a cliffhanger, but when you read it you’re going to be like WTF. KL is evil, evil genius? Maybe. Anyways, I can’t wait for Grasping for Air, though I’m probably gonna cry because that means my Adair boys are done and I’m not sure I’m mentally capable of accepting this. I’ll probably just ignore the fact that it’s over and reread it a bunch of times. That’s not crazy, right?
Anyways, this bloody, twisted empire quickly became one of my all time favorites. Luther will always be my love, but I absolutely adore Carver. I love how perfectly Carver and Meadow balance each other out. I love that Meadow has some growing to do without Carver, but it really sucks ass. I love that Meadow is the only one that could ever put Carver in his place, yet she probably never would. And I love how Carver doesn’t understand most things, but his connection to Meadow is so deep, he knows what she needs.
I’m shutting up now, I swear.
Go get this series!!
Wow wow wow, this new series is so fantastic I love the new series KL Donn has written. It’s dark, gritty, sexy, romantic, thrilling and passionate. Carver and Meadow’s story is like all the others totally page gripping. I love this book. The passion and chemistry is so undeniable from the beginning. Can’t wait to see what comes next.
Holy beep… like seriously!! Can this series get any better? I am so in love with this series! Carver is raw, it’s gritty and it will blow your socks right off your feet! I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of this book. I did not expect what happened at all.
Carver is such a passionate character. His connection to Meadow goes deep. They bring out the best of each other. Carver is feared, he is rough, he is tough, and he will take you out if you hurt the ones he cares for. Meadow is his opposite in some ways. But it just makes their love even more epic in my opinion.
I just could not out this book down! I devoured it so quickly. I am so sad that this series will finish soon. I just want to keep on reading about the men of Adair. I can’t wait for the next book! If you haven’t picked up a book from this series yet I strongly suggest you do. You won’t regret it!
From the beginning of this series, I have been dying to find out more about Carver. This book offers a deeper look into this dark man. I was definitely not disappointed.
Carver is dark. He is depraved. He is also incredibly loyal to his family. When Meadow comes into his life, he finally has a chance at love.
The chemistry between Carver and Meadow was definitely hot. I loved the two of them together.
This book was a gripping continuation of this series, and I cannot wait to find out what KL Donn has in store for us next.
