My abilities grow stronger with each passing day, as does the fear of what comes next. All I know is that I will do anything to avoid becoming like Lucifer, and to protect those I love, even if that means protecting them from me.Kobal,No matter what it takes, I … what it takes, I will keep River safe, even if my actions end up driving a wedge between us. I won’t stop until Lucifer is destroyed, won’t stop until I claim my throne, and she will be by my side when I do. It’s all just a matter of keeping her alive until then.

Wowza!! Davies not only gave me everything I had come to love in Good Intentions, but she turned up the heat and delivered a story full of passion, action, and intense feels. I didn’t think I could love this story more until I delved into the heart of Carved.
River has really come into her own. Although in the beginning she was full of doubts and self-recriminations and was pushing Kobal away, even if it seemed like it was for his own good, she finally learned to accept that she was more than she ever thought she was. She realized that she was far stronger with him than apart. He was her home. He was her connection to life. He was her true love. Her Chosen. As for Kobal, he never had a doubt. Not when it came to her.
My entire existence had been about regaining the throne I’d never even sat upon, but I would lay down my life and let the next varcolac rise before I let something happen to her.
Kobal trusted in River, maybe even more than she trusted in herself. He finally knew what fear was because he was scared of anything taking her from him. He was worried about the mission, about the cost that would be paid by River, and about her mortality. But his love for her, and everything that made her the love of his life, kept him from offering her eternal life. What if his gift to her took away her connection to all that made her good?
She was so much more to me than my Chosen. This infuriating, powerful, stubborn, proud, loving woman was everything to me, and there was nothing I wouldn’t do to protect her.
I’m even more in love with these characters. I’m in love with their banter, their goals, and their fight. I’m also loving getting to know more about the side characters and the demons that everyone has had to face. The author has done not only an incredible job of illustrating the world that these people live in, but in detailing the creatures that have crossed their path. I found it easy to picture them and got the chills that their presence warranted. I’m thrilled that I already have book three waiting on my kindle because I can’t wait to continue this journey!
First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
Wow, holy shiznet wow!!! I couldn’t put this down. The love between River & Kobol is so powerful. They also butt heads so much and it’s kind of funny how this young girl has no fear of the big bad King of Hell. Also, River is so much more at ease with what she is. She finally has humans as friends, too. I know there is another part to this story, but it doesn’t feel like a cliffhanger, thank goodness. I can’t wait to read the next one. I recommend this read 5 Thumbs up
I truly was able to understand Kobal’s mind set better in this book. He and River are annoyingly stubborn and butt heads constantly. I wanted to shake River for being so stuck to her tunnel vision and not being able to see other options. When they finally try to see each others point of view, even if they don’t agree at all, the hot steamy sessions happen. The new demons they come across are interesting and entertaining to read about. Just seeing what creature could come next is a draw for this series.
Fantastic!
This was a good book, but not quite as riveting as book 1. This flowed a bit slower, with a few places that seemed like they were never going to end. I felt some of the descriptions of the creatures attacking them were lacking. I’m also getting bored with the back & forth disagreements between the H & h (Kobal & River), he bosses her around, she disregards it & does what she wants, if all else fails, she withholds sex until she gets her way. I just wasn’t as engaged into this book as I was book 1. Book 1, I stayed up all night to finish, cause I had to know what happened next. This, I was able to put it down & do other things, with out feeling worried or compelled to go back & read more to find out what happens next.
Loved it
