Carter is the second book in Claire Castle’s Mayfair Models series and focuses on the relationship between Carter and Jamieson.
We met Carter briefly in the first book *Marshall* which I adored, and of course Jamieson, who played a significant role as Stuart’s (Marshall’s lover) roommate.
This addition is a second chance love story. Claire Castle does a fantastic job taking her readers back to various past events in Carter’s and Jamieson’s lives because each one, no matter how big or small, gives a well-written insight with their young age in mind and shows how the two high school best friends and lovers make promises and have dreams without fully knowing what their future holds. What teenager does?
When Carter leaves after he accepts a scholarship at a university in California, he and Jamieson drift apart, and that in itself creates a world of hurt considering how close they were. I couldn’t help but think that, in retrospect, they had no idea how smart they were in doing so. Everything they’ve experienced afterwards has molded Carter and Jamie into the men they are today.
Carter is a highly sought-after model who travels the world, has a man in every city, and is truly living the dream. He becomes more of a friend than an acquaintance to Marshall, which is nice as Carter’s not really close to anyone.
Jamieson is an air steward, who also travels the world, is the life of every party, and does just fine in the man department. And as Stuart’s friend, he has attached himself to the little group of amazingly sassy and quirky people who surround him, thanks to the fabulous world of characters that Claire is building in this series.
When the two see each other at a gala-gone-wrong (look up mother from hell and Marshall’s name will pop up!) sparks fly, attitudes appear, and questions pop—and just like that, the past comes barreling into the present.
Carter and Jamieson have been holding a torch for one another but will be damned to let the other know it. Everyone else knows how much they want one another. They’re both ridiculously stubborn, Jamie even more so, as he was the one left behind all those years ago. Carter, sadly, seems so unsure of himself as to whether there have been too many years and too many miles that have separated them. If he could just tell Jamie all the whys and whats that have filled those years, maybe they could try to rekindle something that has clearly never been extinguished.
Alas, every now and then we all need that special friend who has the greatest advice along with cookies and ice cream to help us get our heads out of our asses. Marshall and Stuart to the rescue! … They must be exhausted, but isn’t that what friends are for?
I can’t rave enough about Carter. This series really has it all: genuine friendships, just enough sexy times, funny, quirky, and kind characters who are so likable and unique, and a heartfelt storyline. The ending to this story is so adorable that I might just need to reread it. Next up is Rutledge and I can’t wait to meet him and revisit with all the guys again! I highly recommend this one—Five stars for me!
I absolutely adored the tension between Jamie and Carter! This is a perfect example of a second chance story done just right! You get some angst, you get some fluffy and, most of all, you get two guys you just want to smack upside the head so they finally give in.
The MCs and the story were great, the side characters enhanced the story as well. All in all, a great read! Can’t wait for more.
In the last year of high school Carter and Jamieson have been for each other their firsts for so many new experiences. Most definitely each other’s first love…and maybe even only one.
But life separated them. Sadly, mistakes, bad choices and misunderstandings has made it so that when they meet again they want nothing or little to do with each other.
To me they seem more like magnets fighting the pull toward one another. They obviously still care, but they don’t talk, don’t clear things between themselves and there were some moments I wished I could of just locked them up in the same room until they eventually got over anything keeping them apart.
But,of course, they needed to take their time, find their own pace(have lots of hot sex, lol) ,to overcome doubts and fears before they could manage to accomplish a strong, steadfast relationship.
Carter is a lovely addition to the Mayfair Models series. Claire Castle did an amazing job at fluently go from one POV to another, from the past to present day and back again,so that I had a perfect understanding of the characters and their feelings, of the reasons behind their actions.
I’ve had fun reading it and I really recommend it.
