Detective Carter Fiske has a homeless man’s death to investigate and it’s the third one this month. Tara McBride Wilson, single mom and head social worker at Ever Hope Homeless Shelter, has little time to deal with the handsome detective who keeps popping up…at work and on her mind. When Carter asks Tara out to gain more information on the shelter and the connected clinic, he does not expect to … does not expect to start falling for the beautiful, caring woman. Finding out she is the sister of Sean and Kyle McBride, two of his detective friends, does not make matters easier.
When she discovers his subterfuge, she does not want anything more to do with him. Carter has his work cut out for him to prove that he is the man for her and her daughter.
But danger lurks close by and as they work together to find out where the drugs are coming from, can Carter keep Tara safe?

I have read the first 5 books in the series and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. It will be great when the pre-orders come in.
Carter is adorable, I am sure Tara will keep him on his toes. I especially enjoyed the occasion where Carter was sitting at the bar and was approached by the BOYS!!!
Another fantastic story in the new series of Hope City.
This is a great book to start with if you have never had the pleasure of reading a story by Maryann Jordan. Her books are full of spice, action, love, good people and so much more that will keep you riveted to each page. Carter Fiske is a is a detective who finds himself investigating the deaths of three homeless men. Tara Wilson is a social worker who is in charge of the Hope City Shelter and has dedicated her life to trying to make a difference in the lives of men and women who find themselves down on their luck. She has just come out of a very bad marriage but despite all the bad that happened during that marriage she was blessed with Colleen who is a beautiful young daughter who is the joy of her life. This book has it all, hot men, strong beautiful women, action, mysteries to solve and just all around wonderful characters. Don’t miss this book!
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.
Carter, Maryann Jordan’s second book in the Hope City Series is definitely worth reading. It has romance, suspense, and a HEA. Loved Carter, Tara, and Colleen.
Carter knew as soon as he saw her. Tara took a little longer.
Tara finds a man worthy of her
Carter is a drug detective and stumbles upon a case of homeless men that are found dead with drugs on them Suffice to say this leads him on a hunt of the homeless shelters and puts him into contact with the shelter that Tara runs
A great story and only my second by Maryann Excited to read more of this series
Hope City is becoming my new favorite series of Maryann’s. What’s even better is that she and Kris Michaels are co-writing this series. I absolutely loved this book. With this being a new series it’s hard to keep all of her characters straight, however Maryann does an amazing job at developing all of her characters. You can’t go wrong with reading any of Maryann’s books. So give Hope City a try. I guarantee that you will be hooked.
Detective Carter Fiske is leading an investigation into the deaths of several homeless men. Each man is found with a small sandwich bag of various drugs. While discussing the case with various co-workers in the DEA and fire department, they try to refer Carter to their sister for further assistance. But they always get interrupted before he finds out her name. When one of the clues leads him to the Hope City Homeless Shelter, Carter is directed to Tara—the shelter’s social worker/director. In the back of his mind, Carter wonders if Tara is his friend’s sister. But Tara has a different last name, so he doesn’t make the connection—until it’s too late…
Tara, a social worker/director, for Hope City Homeless Shelter has devoted her life to caring for others. She was the middle child, but first girl in her family. She was the “second mother” to her younger siblings and next door neighbor’s kids. After divorcing her worthless husband, Tara’s life was devoted to caring for her daughter Colleen. Between work and Colleen, Tara wasn’t looking for a relationship or love. Until Carter walks into her life…
Although this is the second book in the Hope City series, you do not have to read the first novel in order to read Carter. Maryann Jordan combines the right amount of chemistry, suspense, romance, and everyday life into her novels. I enjoy reading a believable story that could really happen in life. In the medical field, drug reps run rampant and are in EVERY doctor’s office, hospital trying to “sell” their specific drug. I can easily see how a dishonest person could illegally peddle medications and the harm that they could do. I enjoyed seeing the big “Alpha” detective fall for Tara and Colleen, even realize dreams he didn’t even know he had. I also liked the “protective, big brother” scene and scary pirate scene. Too funny! A truly enjoyable novel. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
I have to confess, I’ve read the ‘Hope City Duet’ but haven’t reviewed it yet. Now it’s at the top of my list because many of the people in this book are introduced in that duet.
Carter is investigating homeless deaths that have a connection to the drugs found on the bodies. It’s not easy to find clues or evidence. Two of his friends on the force, Sean and Kyle, start to tell him to contact their sister who might be able to help, but they are always interrupted.
Tara runs the Ever Hope Homeless Shelter, they have programs to help the residents get back on their feet. They are not a single night type of shelter. She meets Carter as he’s looking for clues as to the identity of the latest homeless man. When she recognizes the man in the photo Carter asks if she could identify the body. Although shaken she agrees. This wasn’t going to be the last she sees of Carter in the course of this investigation.
Carter visits again the next day, requesting more information.
Visits to the clinic next door to the shelter don’t yield much more than other leads to follow.
I really loved the way Carter gets a sort of lunch date with Tara using the investigation as an excuse. That begins an interesting relationship that will have a few ups and downs.
This book grabbed hold of me on the first page and kept me enthralled to the very end. There is plenty of suspense, intrigue and twists with a simmer to sizzle romance that rounds everything out.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this dual author series.
Carter is the second book written by a Maryann Jordan in the Hope City Series. I love the book and the characters. The story is full of suspense, great characters and romance! (I just love these two families!) Carter Fiske is a detective investigating the deaths of some homeless men where drugs are involved. Tara McBride Wilson is in charge of one of the homeless shelters in Hope City. What’s great is that they meet and decide on their level of interest in one another without either need them knowing that Tara has brothers with whom Carter knows and works! She is a single mom who was burned romantically so she is focusing on her job, her daughter and her family. Carter is married to his job and has no interest whatsoever in meeting anyone special. While investigating the homicides, these two get to know one another and are definitely interested. He is a doll and falls for both Tara and her daughter pretty quickly. Tara falls for Carter because he is such a great guy and has many qualities like those of her brothers and father, including his protectiveness. I also loved the mention of Baytown! If you are a Maryann fan, you won’t want to miss this new addition to her new series. Can’t wait for Kyle’s story! I received an ARC and this is my unbiased review.
Another great read by this author and new installment in the Hope City series.
Carter is a detective investigating deaths of homeless men found with drugs. They all have been to a shelter run by Tara, who also happens to be the sister of a few men in the same field as him.
Tara runs the shelter and is upset that one of the men found dead she had tried to help. As Carter gets close to Tara to help his investigation, he doesn’t expect to actually fall for the beautiful single mom and wants more. There a few things standing in their way…shes a single mom, her brothers and the investigation….can they make it work.
I loved this read that had steam…oh steam….suspense…amazing characters and what I loved the most….little to no drama between them. The story flowed beautifully and I couldn’t get enough of these two….cant wait for the next one!!
*I voluntarily received an advanced copy and expressed my honest opnion*
What a great next installment in this series! I loved Carter and Tara just as much as I loved Brock and Sean’s stories. The plot keeps you guessing and the romance keeps you swooning. And Coleen! She was perfectly adorable!
I can’t wait to get my hands on Brody’s book! This series has me hooked!
I recently finished the Hope City Duet (awesome by the way) and that book led beautifully into this one. I’m a huge fan of series books and can not wait to read everyone in this series. Both Kris Michaels and Maryann Jordan are must read authors for me so this series is a double treat. The brief glimpses of Maryann’s Baytown series was just awesome.
Combines all the elements for an un-put-down-able read
You rarely get books that so superbly combine the intrigue, suspense, romance, heat, and love that you find in Carter. Maryann Jordan is an expert at creating worlds that feel so real, and Hope City is one such world. If you haven’t read the duet that opened the series, don’t panic – this is 100% standalone if it needs to be. I loved the way Tara acts, both at the shelter and at home with Colleen; she’s realistically drawn, and she processes things logically. Carter, well, it takes someone special to take on the combined might of the McBride and King men, and I think my favorite scene is possible the pirate pizza party one. I’m looking forward to more Hope City; they have become an automatic one-click for me.
Carter by the talented Maryann Jordan is another great story, this has suspense, some action and the love of family and friends and definitely some romance. A very well written story with some really lovable characters. Carter Fiske is a detective investigating a homeless man’s death and this is not the first homeless man who has died with a bag of prescription drugs in his pocket. He is told Tara Wilson is the person to talk to at the shelter, Tara is the head social worker at Ever Hope Homeless Shelter when the detective arrives with some questions about his case she is shocked with her reaction to the handsome detective. This is just the start of a great book it kept me hooked till the very end and I definitely recommend it. Can’t wait for more from this great author.
Maryann Jordan wrote a wonderful love story in the second Hope City book, Carter. Carter is a detective, and he meets Tara through an investigation into deaths involving the homeless shelter that she runs. You’ve got to love a protective alpha and a strong woman. Their story is sweet, sexy, and suspenseful. I could not put the book down! There is wonderful interaction between two families. I can’t wait to read the rest of their stories!
Oh Carter, what can I say? This book was the perfect mix of mystery, suspense and romance. Tara is a strong and smart social worker/Mom and Carter is an Alpha-protective detective. I really enjoyed watching Carter with Colleen and her youthful excitement brought a cuteness overload to this book. Carter has it all and was a fantastic read.
Carter is the second book by Maryann Jordan in the Hope City series she’s writing with Kris Michaels, each writing their own books.
Carter is a detective working on deaths involving homeless men when his case has him going to a shelter to see if he can find information on the men he meets the head social worker Tara Wilson.
Tara a divorced single mom has her hands full with her daughter Colleen and as the head social worker at a homeless shelter. Tara grew up in a family of police as a McBride where service runs in the family.
Almost instinct attraction what starts out as business involves into more.
As always Maryann writes strong women and Tara is just that as Carter truly and alpha but with the heart we all want in a man. The story has enough suspense that keep you turning the pages since Maryann always keeps you guessing! Oh a throw in a adorable Colleen and what more could you ask for!
This is book 2 in the Hope City series and can absolutely be read as a stand alone although I loved the first duet book so I recommend that book as well! In this one we get Detective Carter Fiske and Tara McBride Wilson’s story. Carter is the detective in charge of finding out not only what happened to a man found next door to a townhouse that was on fire but also in charge of finding out where the drugs found in his pocket came from and hopefully get them off the street. Tara is a single mom who is also the social worker in charge of Ever Hope Homeless Shelter. When Carter comes to the shelter and asks some questions in the hopes of finding out the answers he needs, he asks her out in the hopes of getting help with his investigation. What he doesn’t expect is to start to fall for her. And finding out that she is the sister of two detectives that he is friend’s with doesn’t help either. When Tara finds out that things that they spoke of have been used in his investigation, she feels used and lied to. After what happened with her ex, she doesn’t want to be hurt that way again. But when danger comes her way, can he not only keep her safe but make everything right between them?
I absolutely loved this one! Tara is this super strong woman who has been hurt in ways that someone shouldn’t have been. But she also has a heart of gold and is just naturally nurturing. And the way she is with her daughter? I loved that!! She’s tough when she has to be but also isn’t afraid to do the work for the things that she wants or needs. Carter is this man who is a little bit of a player but once he meets the one he knows is for him, he doesn’t hesitate to reform. He is this stand up, sweet, and lovable man who will do anything for the people he cares about. The way he isn’t afraid to own up to his mistakes alone made me love him. And then the way he was with her daughter? Perfect. I was hooked from the start and didn’t want this one to end at all! But I do have to say after reading this one, I need her sister’s story!! I need to know what happened to her!!
