I love this author! And this story was just what I needed right now! With everything going on in the world I needed the escape. Her books always pull me in right from the start and keep me glued to my Kindle till the end. This is Carter and Tara’s story in the Hope City series. And if you have ever read any of Ms. Jordan’s books, you know she writes the swooniest heroes and the women who don’t take crap! Great story with awesome characters and the suspense I know I can count on from the author. Thank you Ms. Jordan for letting me get the “me” time I so desperately needed! Looking forward to more of Hope City!
The Hope City series centers around the lives and loves of the McBride and King families. This book features Detective Carter Fiske and Social Worker Tara (McBride) Wilson.
Carter is a dedicated detective with the Hope City Drug Task Force and is investigating drug related deaths in the homeless community which brings him to the Ever Hope Homeless Shelter where Tara works. Carter’s interest in Tara soon turns personal, but when the investigation centers on the Ever Hope Shelter, their relationship is almost derailed.
I love reading Maryann Jordan’s books and this one is no exception. From the first page to the last, you become invested in the characters, following their ups and downs, tears and joy, suspense and danger.
Loved this new series, just the right amount of action and mystery to make for a great read.
What a great story, I couldn’t put it down. Carter is a cop and his love interest Tara is a social worker at a homeless shelter. Drugs appear to be connected somehow and Carter must get to the bottom of it. Their personal connection started professional and it was soon obvious there were sparks. She’s a wary single mother and very independent. The characters were wonderful and I was quickly drawn into the story.
I can’t wait for more books in this series.
Carter is the second book in The Hope City series. This is an absolute awesome book to read.
There is so much intrigue, suspense, trust and love. The true meaning of family comes across so well.
Carter Fiske is a dedicated detective who is investigating deaths of three homeless men. Each have small bags of drugs on them. So are their deaths drug related? This investigation leads him to Tara Wilson, she is the head social worker for the homeless shelter. This is where Carter and Tara meet, sparks fly but under all of the banter is a strong tug for them both. It is beautiful to watch their relationship develop. They are perfect for each other and their chemistry is off the charts. Now all he has to do is prove that he is the man to stand up to the McBride Brothers but also the King Brothers who are so very protective of both Tara and Colleen
So in the meantime, not only does Carter have to navigate his relationship with Tara and investigation into the deaths of the three homeless men. Now the question is: Who gave them the drugs? How were they distributed? Can he keep Tara and Colleen safe? I can’t wait for the next in the series.
I received an ARC of this book and all views expressed are my own.
Carter struggles with his feelings for Tara and keeping them distant from his job. Tara is a single mom who has daughter that she needs to think about. Carter proves himself worthy of Tara and her daughter, as well, as Tara’s large law enforcement family. Great to see some folks from previous books. Lots of twists and turns and mystery. HEA.
I love the Hope City series and Maryann Jordan has written another awesome entry into that series. Carter Fiske is a detective investigating the deaths of three homeless men. He meets Tara Wilson at a homeless shelter, where she is Exec Director. Cater has just gotten shod of a causal fling and Tara is divorced with a young child, so both are caution and neither are looking for a relationship. But that is exactly what they find because they are perfect for each other. Meanwhile, Carter is investigating the deaths which seem to be related to a prescription drug ring. I changed my mind several times as I tried to figure out who guilty, but Ms. Jordan is great at leading you then throwing you off. There is plenty of suspense and romance. Perfect combination!! Not to mention the McBride family and King family!! It was so good!!! Can’t wait for the next installment!!
I’m really enjoying this new series from Maryann Jordan and Kris Michaels. We met Carter and Tara in the previous book so it’s great to read their story. Tara is gun shy after a disastrous marriage. The only good thing to co e out of it is her daughter. Carter is a confirmed bachelor. Once they meet during an ongoing investigation the sparks fly. What follows is a story of drama intrigue and love. Once you start this book and series you’ll be eagerly looking forward to all the Mc ride and Kings stories. I know I am. Great book. Highly recommend this book and series
Maryann Jordan never disappoints and always delivers with every book she writes. Every character is well thought out, There’s a genuineness that makes rhem totally relatable and always feel like I know them well. The storylines surround and embrace the characters as it draws you in. Carter is a wonderful romantic suspense about two ordinary people impacting the daily lives of others just by doing their jobs well. A big plus? Carter hails from Baytown!.
Carter Fiske loves being a detective. It’s not for fame or glory but it’s a way make a difference even if it’s only one case at a time. Tara Wilson performs minor miracles daily in her role as head social worker in a homeless shelter. She gives hope and solace to those in need. Thrown together because of police investigation, their attraction is palpable from the moment they meet. Although neither of them were looking for a relationship, the side eye glances and tentative touches turn into soul deep kisses and steamy interludes. Factor in an ebullient and precocious six year old, you’ve got the promise of a forever love.
I can’t express how much I love this story!! It is a book that I couldn’t put down once I started reading. The story moved at a good pace with a great suspenseful storyline along with humor and swoony romance.
I absolutely loved when all the McBride and King guys showed up and cornered Carter in the pub. And Tara’s daughter Colleen was an adorable part of the story.
“Her daughter’s typical enthusiastic nod was slower as she yawned widely. “Uh-huh. I like our new friend, Mom. Can we keep him?”
Carter is a standalone story in the Hope City series. This story and this series are a definite new favorite!!
-5 Stars!-
Carter Fiske is a detective with The Hope City P.D. Tara Wilson is a social worker at a homeless shelter. They have to work together to solve the murders of homeless men. Along the way their attraction to each other grows. Another great read by Maryann Jordan.
5 Stars!!!!!
Carter, the second book in the Hope City series, was classic Maryann Jordan and therefore one you will enjoy. If like me , you did not read book 1, no worries, this is truly a stand alone.
Carter Fiske is a detective in Hope City. A third homeless man has been died and he’s trying to figure out what’s happening. All were carrying pharmaceutical with them and in their system. When he starts to investigate the homeless shelters he meets Tara Wilson, the woman in charge of Ever Hope Homeless Shelter. Their first meeting is less than stellar, but that doesn’t stop Carter from admiring her and being drawn to her. Not realizing she was also related to someone he knew or that their lives would change forever.
As the plot thickens, and the unknown continues to grow, so does the relationship. Will they take a chance at love and trust each other? Will they survive the danger and find their HEA?
Aside from the entertaining story, kudos to the author for the reminder that homelessness is a serious issue. Because of an illness, job loss etc, lives can change and homes are lost forcing individuals and families to be out in the streets. Then you have the veterans who return with PTSD, injuries, some with no family support, and they too end up in the streets when in fact these brave men and women should be helped and not turned away. So, thank you for that reminder.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Maryann has done it again!
This is another book that will draw you in and make it hard to adult.
There are so many moments in this book that I literally felt like I was there with the characters.
Everyone should read this book!
This is the second book in the Hope City Series by master writer, Maryann Jordan. This book will grab your attention right at the beginning and you will find it hard to put down. This is Tara and Carter’s story. He is the detective investigating some murders of homeless people and she is a divorced, single mom social worker who runs the homeless shelter. She just happens to be the sister of two of his detective friends. In true Maryann fashion, this is a well written book with great characters who are well developed and have a lot of depth. Plenty of drama, some danger and lots of substance. This is a book that you will enjoy and will make you want to read other Maryann Jordan books. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to review.

Carter and Tara’s story was heartwarming. Both not looking for a relationship but found one anyway! Romance, suspense and intrigue. What more can you ask for!
Carter is a homicide detective. He is in the middle of case working on trying to find out where homeless men are getting baggies of drugs. Him and his partner are hitting up homeless shelters for answers.
Tara is a single mom and is the head social worker at a homeless shelter.
Carter meets Tara while questioning everyone at the shelter. They start spending time together but he screws up.
Will he get her to forgive him? Will they find out who is behind distributing the drugs?
I am enjoying the Hope City Series. Carter and Tara’s story is sweet. Tara is a single mother running a homeless shelter. She is also apart of the McBride family. We get to know more about the McBrides and their family dynamic while also trying to figure out a mystery. Carter is a detective trying to investigate a crime that leads him in Tara’s direction. Ms. Jordan gives us a heartwarming story while also giving us suspense as only she can. I received this as an Arc and voluntarily give my review.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Carter. The love story between Carter and Tara warmed my heart. I appreciate that I was kept it suspense. As the story went on I kept changing my mind as to who was responsible. The tidbits introduced about the other siblings make me anxious for the rest of the books in the series. Great job Maryann!
