Carter Monroe woke on a normal day or so he thought. Then he found a baby in a basket on his front porch with a note stating he was the father. That was impossible and yet the baby’s mama had been sure. With no way to find the mother, he takes the responsibility of raising the little girl, Lanie, as his daughter. Lanie needed everything. While at the mercantile he meets beautiful Samantha Wallace … Samantha Wallace who informs him she is his mail-order bride, a bride he knows nothing about. When he sees her, mistake or not, he knows he can never let her go.
What is going on? A baby and a bride all on the same day? Was someone playing tricks on him or was he just having a really strange day

Carter finds a baby on his doorstep and then a woman shows up saying that she is his mail order bride. Someone has been using his name. Well, he is going to keep the beautiful baby and the beautiful woman. He doesn’t think he will ever love another woman. When his wife died, he is sure he will never love again. Then Samantha comes to town and turns his life upside down and she brings danger that threatens his new family. Can he save them?
Wow. Carter gets a baby girl then a mail order bride all in one day. Samantha gets a beautiful baby girl and kind husband. Add in a horrible man from her past that just cannot give up and another one that should have stayed gone you got a great tale.
I loved this story! Seriously when I started I had no idea how it would grab my heart but it did from the first chapter. Carter owned a ranch and had a lot of ranch hands but had lost his wife a few years back. Of all things to happen to him, one morning he opened the front door and there was a baby on his doorstep with a not that he was the father. Of course he couldn’t be but he decided at that moment he would take care of that child. He went to town to get some supplies and ran into Samantha Wallace who said she was his mail order bride. What? He had not ordered one! But she took hold of the child and that was that.
This story just has so much heart, mixed with a little suspense and a spurned fiance of Samantha’s. A few ups and downs but overall I charmed by the entire premise and all the ranch hands who loved the baby. A feel good story that gave me hours of please that I would highly recommend! What a great series!
I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting and very believable
Carter becomes a husband and a father on one day. When he discovers a baby on his porch he knows he isn’t the birth father but he still wants to raise her. When he comes in town he finds a Samantha who tell him she’s his mail order bride, but he didn’t send for her. But he needs her now. Can this combined family live a happy life? Or will the reason that she left home only bring trouble?
I really enjoyed this story, the way the main characters are immediately taken by Lanie, and not just them but also all the men on the ranch. A fun story in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This book is Cynthia Woolf’s contribution to the “Bachelors and Babies” series. Even though this is the third book in the series, Carter can easily be read without having read the first two books.
This book is the fascinating story about Carter, a widower who owns a large ranch in the Colorado Territory. In the first chapter, Carter discovers an abandoned baby on his doorstep. The attached letter claims Lainie is Carter’s daughter and is four months old. Even though Carter knows for a fact that the baby isn’t his, he plans to keep her.
When Carter goes into town to buy the necessities for a young baby girl, he meets Samantha. Samantha has left her family because she is running away from a forced marriage to an abusive man. She is in the Colorado Territory to meet her mail order husband-to-be Carter Monroe, who just happens to be in town at the same time.
As it turns out, Carter does not know who Samantha is since he was not the one who had written to her. However, since Carter has no idea how to take care of his new baby, and could use someone to take care of his house as well as to cook for the men who work and live on his ranch, he marries Samantha.
I love Samantha, the main character. She is a strong-minded, stubborn independent woman who does not let any obstacle stand in her way. Even though she is city born, there is no task too hard or too big for her to take on.
Carter is a widower who swears that he will never fall in love again. But even his absolute certainty cannot withstand the strength of Samantha’s love.
The cruel men in this story have no conscience and no humanity. They do not care what happens to anyone else but themselves. One of them is Samantha’s ex-fiancé. He will do anything, no matter how evil, to force her to come back and marry him. There is also another villain who has a complicated connection to Carter’s first wife.
This story is a fascinating page-turner as Carter, Samantha and Lainie are forced to defend themselves on all sides from these evil men – a prime example of “good vs. evil.”
Great story! Great characters and I love this series. Thank you.
I’ve always loved Westerns … movie, books, TV shows. I’ve read over half a dozen of this author’s books and for the most part, find them well written and enjoyable. I liked the main characters in this one – Carter and Samantha – and the story itself was very interesting but I also found that there was so much descriptive writing about what was being bought at the store and the chores Sam completed during the day and what she dressed the baby in etc. Unfortunately, it felt like “filler”. I also thought that the repeated evil attempts by Thurston went on a few too many times. In my opinion, building towards the climax in a book over and over again seems implausible and it achieves the opposite. I always love an HEA and this definitely had that! I’ll definitely be reading more of this author’s books.

Heartwarming story.
This is a sweet Historical Romance. It has endearing characters and a well written storyline. There are some twists that will keep you hooked to this intriguing storyline. I can’t wait to read the next book.
It is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at times. He finds a baby he doesn’t even know he has on his porch that has a note that says it is his. Then he goes to the local mercantile and finds out he has a bride that he didn’t know he had. Talk about a weird day. He was probably thinking some wake me up. But being he needs someone to help him take care of the baby he marries her but says he can never love her. Well never say never. Life has a way of sneaking up on you and showing you that you are wrong. Loved it and couldn’t put it down. One of those reads you hate to see end. I received this review copy and review it.
A charming, sweet romance in which Carter is the hero that has been duped into not only being a father but also a husband. Finding Lanie on his doorstep, Carter is astounded when he goes to the mercantile to purchase items she may need, only to find a mail order bride waiting for him, one that he has not requested. Samantha has taken her courage in her hands to leave her home and travel to her new home as a mail-order bride, only to find that Carter is not actually expecting her. However, baby Lanie’s plight touches her at a deep level and Samantha steps into the breach. When the danger she left behind catches up with her, Carter finds that he can no longer sit on the fence but has to make a decision. The novel is sweet and clean and ticks all the blocks for a good romance. Although part of a series, this book is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a happy close. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Cynthia Woolf always brings strong characters and this book was no exception. In spite having an infant and mail order bride showing up claiming to be his, Carter keeps his head and solves the problem. Samantha/Anne-Marie also shows spunk and determination. She makes the best of an unexpected situation. Together they can face the world. I would have loved to have seen those cowboys fall in love with Lanie. This was a totally enjoyable book.
Anne-Marie changes her name and hops a train to Golden, CO to escape her abusive ex-fiancé and marry the man she has been corresponding with as a mail-order bride. Carter is a hard-working, broken-hearted rancher who suddenly finds not only a baby on his doorstep, but a mail-order bride waiting for him in town. I enjoyed reading about how these two damaged people make a marriage between them work, plus form a family with the baby left in their care, while dealing with the abusive ex-fiancé and couple of other surprises.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
