Murder, sunken treasure, and pirates both ancient and modern send Doc Ford on a nightmare quest in this New York Times bestseller in Randy Wayne White’s thrilling series.Marine biologist Doc Ford has been known to help his friends out of jams occasionally, but he’s never faced a situation like this. His old pal Carl Fitzpatrick has been chasing sunken wrecks most of his life, but now he’s run … sunken wrecks most of his life, but now he’s run afoul of the Florida Division of Historical Resources. Its director, Leonard Nickelby, despises amateur archaeologists, which is bad enough, but now he and his young “assistant” have disappeared–along with Fitzpatrick’s impounded cache of rare Spanish coins and the list of uncharted wreck sites Fitz spent decades putting together. Some of Fitz’s own explorations have been a little…dicey, so he can’t go to the authorities. Doc is his only hope.
But greed makes people do terrible things: rob, cheat, even kill. With stakes this high, there’s no way the thieves will go quietly–and Doc’s just put himself in their crosshairs.

Another Doc Ford adventure that entertains to the end.
Nice to be in the islands on an adventure
Could not finish it. I could not get on same wavelength as the author.
Enjoyed other titles more. The story seemed a bit scattered at times
Not my favorite Randy White book but still very good read
Always colorful
Not as good as most of the Doc Ford books. But still, Doc Fort and Tomlinson.
Fast easy to read, but not quite as gripping as what I usually expect from this author. I had the feeling someone else wrote parts of the story. The character of Tomlinson seemed off-kilter.
I always enjoy RW White’s books. It is not only the action but the story plots that sometimes follow current events and so seem more real and plausible. Originality and world building are right up on top!
Would have given the book 5 stars, but it was a little difficult to follow. Not an easy read.
Always a good read
Not up to Whites usual standards
Well below RWW’s normal standards
Excellent author
Not anywhere near his best. Mediocre plot and dialogue. His earlier books were much better.
I’ve been a fan of Randy Wayne White for years; however, the last two books I’ve read didn’t feel up to the past standards of his works. This story was just too disjointed for me to follow easily as others have been. While the history and setting of the story was (as always) interesting, the transitions between characters and places was not always easy to follow.
Looking forward to the new adventures of Doc and Tomlinson. Thanks again for continuing to write and entertain those of us who would love to write,
The writing is Not up to Randy’s standards, good story, wonderful characters but the writing is sub par.
I’ve read all of Randy Wayne White’s Doc Ford novels, and while this is not one of his best he’s in good form and kept me interested and entertained. Tomlinson is great character and the two of them make a good team. As always, White’s writing always delivers a strong sense of place, though I must say I prefer the moments of life in the marina.
Getting stale
Great story! I love the Doc Ford series and have read every one. This story didn’t have a lot of Doc Ford and Tomlinson like usual. But I like how the book is so descriptive of the areas and the people. Really curious now what might happen with Hannah and Doc, since I love to read both series.
