The author of Shards of Hope and Shield of Winter presents a Psy/Changeling novel in which two people who know evil intimately must unlock the good within their icy hearts… assassins—cold, pitiless, unfeeling. Until he meets Brenna…
Brenna Shane Kincaid was an innocent before she was abducted—and had her mind violated—by a serial killer. Her sense of evil runs so deep, she fears she could become a killer herself. Then the first dead body is found, victim of a familiar madness. Judd is her only hope, yet her sensual changeling side rebels against the inhuman chill of his personality, even as desire explodes between them. Shocking and raw, their passion is a danger that threatens not only their hearts, but their very lives…

This is my favorite Nalini Singh book. It’s memorable and always has me going back to re-read time and again.
Third book in series, third one I’ve read. I enjoy the world-building and the creativity. This one offered a change from the first two books in the series as the hero is the Psy and the heroine is the changeling shifter. Seeing the cold, “emotionless” Judd slowly crack as he falls for the changeling made for a compelling read. The ending was really exciting. The only negative for me (and this was the same as with book 2) was that the middle sagged. Too much repeating of things that had already been said. But it’s a good book. Great characters, interesting concept, worth the read.
oh My God this book is so awesome 🙂
Judd is just pure sexy male and I think he is just so amazing ,one of the best characters ever, I love his story from start to finish ,he is just so Psy but he learns to love like a changeling for Brenna 🙂 ,I think they are pretty much like one of the best couples in the series ,I just so enjoyed seeing Judd lose control ,I also loved that he helped empower Brenna after every thing she went through ,he didn’t make her feel like less of a woman, their whole book is just sexy/awesome 🙂
Brenna is one of the coolest characters ,I loved that she didn’t give in to what that monster did to her ,she took herself back with a little help from a super sexy psy,i loved how she was just so drawn to him and vice versa ,it was awesome to see them finally be whole together as well as on their own ,they balance each other out 🙂
Besides saying it’s a MUST Read ,there are really only 5 words need to be said about this book – It Kicks So Much Ass :).

I would recommend that you start this series with the first book, that will give you more insight in this fascinating world and the people who live in it.
This story is the third in the series and is about Jude Lauren, a dangerous Psy and Brenna Kincaid, a wolf changeling. We met both characters in the previous books. There we learned that Judd and his little Psy family deflected from the PsyNet and found sanctuary with the SnowDancer pack and Brenna felt victim to a serial killer, luckily she was saved by her pack but by that time she had suffered terrible things. Still, with the help of Sacha and other people she became better but she will never be the same again. One of the few people who understands her now and where she feels safe with is Judd, the cold-hearted, emotionless Psy who lives in her pack but is still not accepted by them. As a Psy, Judd doesn’t feel emotions but Brenna is slowing changing him, is making him feel things and that could be very dangerous because he’s a very powerful Tk. One mistake and his power could kill her. He needs silence to keep people safe around him. So he tries very hard to keep his distance of Brenna. But when danger is getting closer to Brenna, Judd will do everything to protect her! Can Judd keep Brenna safe not only from himself but also from the murderer and will Brenna get from Judd what each changeling needs, touch and love or is his silence too deep to ever find love by him?
Where the first two books took place in the DarkRiver pack, this story was about the SnowDancer pack, the wolves. I was very happy about that. I was getting very curious about them because we already met some characters in the previous books.
‘Caressed by ice’ is a great book. Judd may be an ice-cold Psy and not be comfortable with touch but in any other way he acted just like a dominant changeling man. He was protective, stubborn and very ruthless when needed. It was fascinating to see him open up to Brenna with each touch and conversation. Brenna was a very strong woman. She was also stubborn but in a good way, to heal, to convince Judd and her pack that they belong together but she never took it too far. I really loved their connection. Brenna’s brothers were very protective of her but that was understandable. We also met new secondary characters, one of them was the mysterious Ghost. I have a feeling that we will see much more of him in the future. We also discovered more secrets of the Psy council. The story was told again in both POV’s.
I’m enjoying re-reading this series very much.
Read the series!
Brenna Kincaid is trying to put her life back together and the only person that treats her normally is former Arrow Judd Lauren who defected from the Psy’s to save his nieces and nephew from rehabilitation because they were flawed.
If you have missed this series, you need to read it now because it really good and lots of books to read if you are stuck at home.
Judd Lauren was once an Arrow, an elite warrior for the Psy Council. Now he is a defector who feels nothing until it comes to Brenna. Brenna Kincaid was abducted by a psy serial killer and her mind was raped and violated. As time passes she realizes that more was done to her brain that they realized and now she can feel other people’s emotions. The only one who can help her is the handsome but emotionless Judd.
Initially I wasn’t sure if I would like this book because of how different Judd and Brenna are but I was wrong. Judd was everything Brenna needs to work through her past and find a future. I actually really loved these two, hence another 5 stars. I loved watching their love grow and Judd realizing he didn’t want to live without her anymore. He was determined to break silence and be with Brenna. Brenna was also a great heroine. She was determined and stubborn, just what Judd needs. She refused to let him push her away and found the true man inside.
“Why do I keep telling you things I swore I’d take to my grave?”…”Because you know I’ll always be your shield against the nightmares.”
The confrontation between the Psy and Changelings continues in this one. We have new players in the game and the enemies are starting to be revealed. I am really interested in learning more about Ghost and Protocol 1.
Overall, I cannot seem to get enough of this series! I am so glad I decided to reread them all and I hope they continue to be this amazing!
The world is very different in this future timeline. There are three races: Psy, changelings, and humans. The Psy use their x-men-esque powers to control the world. Changelings are shape shifters. And as we all know, humans are resilient lol. Judd Lauren and his family defect into a wolf changling pack to avoid a family wide extermination order. Judd was a trained assassin, and his very dangerous skills are protected my levels of mental shielding and pain controls. When one of his pack mates is abducted by a Psy serial killer and rescued, he is drawn to Brenna. Sometimes two broken people can find a way to put themselves back together, and if they are strong enough rid the world of a monster while they are at it. Love this world!! Happy Reading!
I love all of the Psy-Changeling books, but i especially LOVE the hero and heroine in this book. It’s one of my go-to books when I want a comfort read, the kind of favorite story that helps smooth out the rough edges of a day. I’m on my second copy because my first one fell apart. =o)
The Psy/Changling Series is inventive, and exciting. A breath of fresh air for those of us who love the paranormal.
Judd Lauren was/is an Arrow, an elite soldier called upon to do unspeakable things. In the Psy world of Silence the feelings of emotion are conditioned out of the person. To protect his family and his own sanity, Judd and his brother and sister escape. The SnowDancer pack allowed them sanctuary. In turn, he performs various duties for the alpha. He keeps to the conditioning until he meets Brenna.
Brenna Kincaid went about her day participating in pack chores and activities like all young females. That was before she was abducted, and a Psy serial killer invaded and unlayered her mind. Did he leave something evil behind? Could she become a killer? These are fears she harbors. She turns to Judd because with his past he is better equipped to understand what she’s going through. Desire burns just under the skin and her wolf wants to pounce.
It gets a 9 on the McBride Moxy Meter

I don’t want to give the book away to anyone who hasn’t read this book. Check out the book’s synopsis since it provides an excellent brief description of the story and the main characters.
Here are the items I loved about this book:
1. Judd Lauren. He may have an icy heart due to having no feelings, but I fell hard for this elite soldier. The Psy used him for his dark abilities, and those abilities can now help the Changelings. He’s trying to prove himself with the Changelings, and he will, even though some don’t trust him. I loved how Nalini made this non-feeling male hero show himself at his most vulnerable and most robust.
2. Brenna Shane Kincaid. She was abducted by a Psy that violated her mind, but she was one strong female heroine proving she can be strong. She’s full of emotions, and she is trying everything to deal with everything that she’s been through and deal with difficult brothers who won’t let her live her life. I adored how much she fought to be with Judd, even though he tried to warn her off so many times that he had no feelings. I loved them as a couple because they are complete opposites of each other.
3. The plot/drama. The politics between the Psy and Changelings are significant in this story and how much the Psy wants to destroy the Changelings. They even go out of their way to turn Changelings against each other. It’s crazy. The Psy have some evil to them, and I hope the Changelings start fighting back even more. The ‘Ghost’ in the story that Judd works with is also a spy. I can’t wait to learn more about him.
4. The romance between the Opposite Characters. I love this kind of passion for stories. Judd is the ‘Ice’ due to having to suppress his feelings. He doesn’t want to lose control. Then there’s Breanna, who is the opposite, and her feelings are everything. These two together will eventually find a way to be with each other. It won’t be easy, so be prepared when you read the story.
I could go on and on about what I loved about this story. If there is one of many reasons why I love reading Nalini Singh’s books right now is due to her world-building skills and addicting characters. I’ve only read three of the books in the Psy-Changeling series, but I know Nalini will make me fall for each book no matter what.
I love this series by Nalini Singh, and I can’t wait to dive more into this series. I’ve meant to catch up on this series for so long now.
Book three brings us another Psy and Changeling couple. Brenna is a wolf changeling with the Snow Dancer pack who happened to be the Psy victim from book 1. In this she is paired with Judd who was one of the Psy who’s family was outcasted and the Psy council believe is dead. They never expected the Snow Dancer pack to take them in instead of killing them.
I’m always loving the emotionally stunted heroes so you definitely get that with Judd since all Psy are programed to not feel emotions. Being away from the Psy people has slowly abled them all to start feeling again but Judd didn’t seem to be one who would ever change his cold ways. It takes Brenna’s constant pushing at him to slowly see him start to feel.
Their relationship is a very slow burn due to Judd. Brenna came off emotional enough for the both of them. She was a bit much for me but I still very much enjoyed this book. There are plenty side characters that are in each book to keep everything interesting.
I’m on a Nalini binge. First the GH books, now the Psy-Changelings. I’ve gotta admit, Judd is still one of my faves. He is SO FRICKING HOT and Brenna is so stubborn and willing to fight for him, for them and what they can have.
I’m up to Allegiance of Honor in my re-read and I’m still flipping back to Judd and Brenna’s story and sighing in happiness. I love how Brenna overcame the recent trauma in her life, didn’t let it define her and went on to live her life, even shoving away the overprotective aspects of her more dominant (albeit well-meaning and loving brothers) in her determination to find herself, and in her determination to have the guy she knows is meant to be hers.
What more can a girl ask for than a traumatized woman melting the heart of an emotionless man? Yum! I absolutely loved Judd. He made the whole novel awesome.
Awesome book and series!
Another exciting installment to the Psy/Changeling series! Judd and Brenna’s story was dangerous, intriguing, heartbreaking and sexy as hell!
Can’t wait to dive into the next one!
Judd and Brenna … electrify the pages whenever they’re together… a highly recommended read that has edged into the top spot as my current favorite of the series so far.
Caressed by Ice’ is book 3 in Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series. Who says a an emotionless assassin can’t find love. I have really been enjoying reading this story about Judd and Brenna, the struggles and pain they have had to endure to get their happiness has been one hell of a ride. I have been enjoying reading these books and can’t wait to continue the journey.
Spoilers below…
Judd Lauren is an Arrow Psy TP (Telepathy) & TK (Telekinesis). From the age of 10 all he has know is how to be an assassin cut off from feeling any emotion, until Brenna.
Brenna Shane Kincaid is a Wolf Changeling, part of the Snowdancers pack. Everyone except for Judd treat her like a child that needs to be constantly watched after her abduction and torture from one of the Psy.
4.5 Ice man Stars
I’m keeping these reviews short unless there is one I have to rant or rave about because this series is longggggg. I don’t want to spend days writing reviews, though I may come back later and write more in depth reviews. I really loved both Brenna and Judd. They were so hot together. I loved the whole book and the plot the only reason it’s 4.5 stars instead of 5 is the conflict Judd had to go though to be with Brenna was fixed so easy it felt like it was glossed over. There was so much build up. Judd can’t break Silence or he will turn into a killer because he has a dark evil power and he can only control it with Silence. He can’t touch with Silence or it will turn his brain to mush. But after almost a whole book of build up he just removes Silence and sets up a Psy trip wire in his brain to warn him if he is losing control. So anti-climate why didn’t he just do that in the first place. It was just too easy. Still a great book and Judd was yummy!
