He was the last person I expected to find out here. Once he was the golden boy of American boxing. Now he’s a desert recluse with a bad attitude.Everyone knows the unthinkable tragedy he suffered. And why he retreated to an isolated place where the world couldn’t touch him. He’s not searching for love. He’s not searching for anyone. I understand. After a decade of grief I’m still struggling with … grief I’m still struggling with my own loss and regret.
I’m not searching for love either. I know the potential for pain is too high.
But I know something else too.
There are some cravings that don’t disappear, some desires that can be satisfied without the inevitable agony that love can yield.
And while I’m here I want to feel every single one of them with him.
The Hermit is a stand alone long novella loosely based on the Tarot card.

I thought the Hermit was a good story. The characters were well crafted and had a great back story.
Tragedy, Love, Life…good stuff.
I loved this novella. It moves at a nice pace and feels like a complete story. It won’t melt your kindle (there is some steam) but it will melt your heart. I fell in love with Jeremy and Deirdre. Its a great easy story to read and enjoy.
A story of broken hearts and crushed souls of two people who now punish themselves with loneliness. When fate has them meeting in the most deserted of places, it just might have something in the cards in store for them. An emotional inspirational love story of heartbreak and healing that will capture your heart.
The Hermit was a story that was of two broken people caused by tragic events in their past. Both Jeremy and Deidre have hidden themselves away both emotionally and socially as punishment and a coping mechanism. As their paths cross and a connection erupts can healing start in the least likely place. When Love is in the cards there might just be no stopping it.
This was a pretty good read. Jeremy and Deidre were a well written pair that isolated themselves as a result of their long lasting grief for loved ones lost and the guilt that they carried from the loss. I thought that their story started out slowly but once it got started, it was hard to put down. I also thought that the ending was really quick as the pair resolve their pasts. Overall this was a good read that I would recommend this book to others.
I really enjoyed this one. This Author never fails to draw me in with her words and makes me feel for her characters with every story she writes.
Jeremy the one time superstar retreats to a small town in the mountains where no-one bothers him, he likes the solitude of being alone, a Hermit with no connection to his former life.
Deirdre decides she wants to escape from her life too, leaving her family behind and severing all ties.
I loved how Deirdre and Jeremy met, the way he spoke to her. It made me chuckle at how just out of practice he was.
You can’t help but feel for both of them, they’re two broken people that carry a lot of pain around.
They aren’t looking for each other but circumstances bond them together.
Sometimes the best things happen when you least expect them.
A fantastic standalone story from the Cards of Love collection.
Do you like Cora Brent? Have you read her books before? If you haven’t this is a perfect taste. Ugh plan for a whirlwind of emotions. If you have read her before then you can add this to you TBR. I loved the simplicity of this story and how all is revealed as it progresses. Your heart breaks for these characters. Umm when they spice things up (eek) you won’t be disappointed. It has all the elements I love in a story. Definitely on my recommendation list. Happy Reading!
I really enjoyed this latest book by this talented author!!! Jeremy and Deirdre have something in common….they are no stranger to tragedy. They both deal with the pain in different ways Jeremy lives a solitary life and Deirdre has immersed herself into her studies and job. When they meet there is an instant connection that they can’t deny. At first it was a mutual lust that brought them together but the more time they spent together they started developing feelings beyond lust. I really enjoyed their story and their journey to their HEA. It was a great book and I highly recommend it to all. I can’t wait to see what story she comes out with next….well done!!!
This shorter read offered a whole lot of emotion. My heart broke for Deidre and Jeremy. These two were so wounded and had suffered such loss. It was very easy to feel for both of them. This couple had great chemistry and their attraction was easy to feel. A good read.
This book is part of the “Cards of Love” series but is a standalone.
Deidre and Jeremy are broken shells of themselves. Tragedy has marred their very existence. Without any anchors left in their lives, they both decide to retreat into themselves and essentially become “hermits”.
This is a book of finding the joy in life again. This is a story of finding not only love but a way back into the world and into themselves. Both Jeremy and Deidre lost sight of who they were as people because of extenuating circumstances. Together, they find everything that was missing from their lonely existence.
I loved the chemistry between Jeremy and Deidre, it is electric and magnetic. I loved their banter.
You immediately are taken in to this story, it is completely captivating. You root for both of these characters with a fierceness as though you personally know them. The story moved and flowed effortlessly, with a clear beginning, middle and end.
If you are a fan of Ms. Brent, this is one story to not be missed. I hope we get to revisit these characters in the future!
I quite enjoyed this story, though sad at times (overall actually). Two souls who lost so much, hiding in their own way. After kinda fighting their attraction (at least one of them lol), they give in and fall into a groove and learn to open up, to talk, and to live again. Loved this story
Jeremy Gannon was once a great boxer until one day he lost everything. Becoming a recluse was the only way to survive in his mind until one day he meets his new neighbor, Deirdre (D.C.) Paskevich. Can she awaken his mind and soul and show him there is more life to live? When two people have such tragedies happen in the past can they overcome it and finally find happiness together? This is part of the Cards Of Love series but can be read as a standalone. Told in dual POV. A wonderful novella about loss and love.
