This was my first book by Chantel Seabrook. I don’t listen to this genre as often, so it might appeal more to people who read a lot of fantasy, especially if they like more angst than happy endings. I was hoping for a little more with the story, and it came to an abrupt and (for me) disappointing ending, especially in regards to parent/child relationships. A lot of character’s decisions didn’t make sense to me, which made it tough to get into the story. The book has a ton of really positive reviews for the print format, so I think there is definitely an audience that would love this story. If the description sounds like what you usually read, then go for it.
I listened to the Audible version. The narrator, Anne Flosnik was also new to me. In some ways I liked that she varied the speaking voices of individual characters based on emotion because it add emotion and it’s more realistic, but it was also more confusing because individual character voices changed and it was harder to tell who was speaking.

Unique story, good characters and started out pretty good but later especially the ending felt rushed and lacked depth. The romance is good and then not.
Main character made lots of really dumb decisions even when she had all the info needed to make a smart one.
For the teenage ser
The concept of the future queen touring all the provinces of the kingdom before assuming the throne was intriguing. A great means of knowing and understanding the people she would be governing but then things went downhill. Some very obvious potential plot developments never happened. Sex and torture were massively overplayed.
poor writing, cheapened female lead – just kind of yucky
Ugh, I had such high expectations! This story is like the bachelorette combined with the hunger games combined with twilight… But kind of the worst parts of all three. I got 80% of the way through and it was getting so blah and I was so tired of the heroine being a dummy that I had to stop. I realized there wasn’t any way the story could reach an ending that would satisfy me.
I hoped it would feel a little more like “the selection” series, but I was disappointed.
I liked the twist on the traditional harem concept.
Not a real fantasy. Just a not very good romance in a fantasy setting with a ridiculous reverse harem theme. Should not be listed as fantasy.
While a story of a woman who must choose between 12 men to be her soul mate sounds like a rewrite of a Bachelor episode, this story is actually more complex. It is pretty clear who the bad guys and the good guys are, but there is some decent plot development as the heroine strives both to decide who she should marry and how to keep the country together. I was a bit disappointed in the ending, since I would have prefered a different outcome, but all in all in bad book.
Not worth my time reading
The writing style is good which is why I was able to finish the book. A little bit to much indecisive behavior on the main characters in that actions kept repeating themselves. They didn’t learn from prior circumstances, I find that frustrating in a book. You have such a short time to be with them you want them to progress and grow. I won’t be reading the next book in the series; although I did enjoy the writing of the author it appears she wants her characters to develop slower than I enjoy. It’s like a series where you have to read the next book to see what happens. Some people like those, I’m not one of them.
Kept me engaged from beginning to end.
Interesting concept
