Sarah Andre writes a terrific series surrounding the Quinn brothers in her Damaged Heroes series, book two. When she gets to Capturing the Queen, featuring Sean, she also creates an amazing character in the female protagonist Gretch. As I began reading about this conceited, snarky individual, I thought, what is Sarah Andre up to, Gretch is unlikeable, too perfect.
It didn’t take long to find out. As the pages advance, I came to love Gretch as much as I did Sean. Sean, OCD, and drop dead adorable, a martial arts expert, art restorer and classical music enthusiast, he’s the youngest of a family of successful brothers. He’s also the most insecure.
Gretch, on the other hand, appears so put together, well, it’s hard not to be envious. Men worship her as she walks by, and she does conduct herself as though she were a queen. A facade carefully crafted. She’s equally, if not more damaged than Sean. Capturing the Queen was a fascinating read filled with action and hot romance. More please, Ms. Andre.
5++ STARS!!
AMAZING! 5+infinity STARS! Absolutely, a top five read of 2017. I wholeheartedly loved Sean – quirks and all. The quirks and insecurities alone refused to define him. He was also sensitive, tender, witty and romantic with a latent alpha side that arose when necessary. From the beginning, Sean was the perfect foil for Gretch, but he became everything that she needed when he was forced to fight for her safety.
Different from the first book in this series, the author adds a third POV – Sean’s FBI agent brother, Jase. I have found that muItiple-POV’s have become less common in romance and I have missed that writing style. It was nice to get insight into the true thoughts and motivations of another character in the book. With the 3rd POV being Sean’s brother, it added another perspective to what made Sean tick, as well as the FBI’s role.
I could natter on and on about what I enjoyed in Capturing the Queen, but will end by mentioning that on top of the suspense and romance, this book had some amazingly witty one-liner’s; often uttered from the droll, left-brained mind of the hero, Sean. Since rom-coms are a favorite sub-genre of mine, I revelled in this surprising aspect.
Sara Andre’s tagline ‘Romantic Suspense that keeps you up all night” is spot-on. Capturing the Queen literally kept me up all night and I enjoyed every sleepless moment. (I voluntarily read an advanced copy of Capturing the Queen.
2017 RITA Award Finalist – A romantic suspense filled with tension and fast-paced, in-the-headlines suspense. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
