Cressida Howe is an assassin, known as the Archer, raised by merciless father obey without question, she defies him for the first time in her life when she is ordered to kill Eldric. Cressida is captivated by Eldric, a man unlike any she’s even known.
When Eldric of Hawksmoor is charged with finding the deadly assassin, the Archer. Which he does, but he never imagined the Archer was a woman! Now that he has her, he is not sure what do with her or how to deal with the feelings she stirs in him.
This is a well written, fast paced and intriguing story. Cressida is a very complicated character and definitely not your typical HR heroine, Eldric is wonderful and I loved that he respected Cressida even when he wasn’t sure of her, HEA will not be easy and these two will have to overcome a lot before they get theirs. This is the ninth book in the series, but it can easily be a stand-alone title.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me.*
It appears that Nicole has did some research on the time periods when she wrote this book. She brought forth information that help the reader understand things that happen during that time period. Also, the dialect was on point with the characters. There are a couple of action fight scenes that provided some quick pace to the book. This was good and helped the book. The romance was a slow rise, but I didn’t get the passion the seduction between the two characters. I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.
Captured by her Enemy Knight is the ninth book in author Nicole Locke’s “Lovers and Legends” series. Each book in this fabulous series easily stands alone, but to truly appreciate and enjoy the storyline, I highly recommend reading this series from beginning to end!
We first met our hero Eldric of Hawskmoor in “Her Christmas Knight” book six of this series. Eldric intrigued me in that previous book, and I was looking forward to getting to know him and find out why there was an archer that seemed to be targeting him…
Cressida Howe is the Archer. She’s the daughter of a mercenary who has been trained since birth to kill when ordered, no questions asked. Until one day, she didn’t…
I have been following this series from the beginning and I really must say this series continues to get better and better! Eldric wants vengeance against the mysterious Archer, the person who killed his friends. When a stroke of luck lands the Archer in his grip, he’s quite shocked that in fact the Archer is a woman, and oh what a woman she is! Cressida is a very unique and unlikely heroine at first glance. I’ll admit I was quite surprised and actually liked her from the beginning. As her story unfolds and we get to know her and her past, I found myself rooting for her and hoping that somehow she could escape the only life she’s known and find true happiness. As for Eldric, everything he’s always believed about the mysterious Archer is questioned once he gets to know Cressida. He struggles with his desire for her and his promise to the King. He was a fabulous hero, strong, brave, and I felt they were a perfect match as a couple.
This was a fabulous story showing that things aren’t always as you might seem. The storyline was fascinating and well-paced with wonderful characters, action, suspense, and an unlikely couple who had to overcome a lot to find their happiness. An absolutely perfect story to add to this wonderful series!

My review :
Will her past come between them and doom their future …
This is my second read by Nicole Locke and here again she surprises me again.
She has a way to bring together characters everything opposes, like Eldric and Cressida.
A knight battling in the open and a killer working in the shadow. She is the dark to his light.
Eldric because of his uncommon size was destined to the battle field, he learned to adapt and move his body with swift efficacy. A force to be reckoned. Until he lost one too many friends. From there he swore to catch the killer behind their death.
He is man of honor, first to his friends, then his king. For his fallen soldiers, he will bring justice.
So his world is turned upside down when the murdered he followed for months is a woman, a very attractive woman. And while his need for justness shouts, he can’t resolves himself to hurt a woman, a woman who appears to be so much more than the cold assassin he expected.
Cressida is what she was made to be, a weapon, a silent killer. And until recently, she never questioned her orders nor the man behind them, her father. But after he ordered her to kill Eldric and she voluntarily failed, she also went against him and fer her one time rebellion she finds now herself estranged from the only “home” she ever knew.
Cressida is one badass woman but also so naive and innocent, she believed everything which was told to her, so eager to be loved, she accepted all kind of punishment if it pleased the man she called father. And until the very end as she deems herself unworthy of any kind of affection because of who she is, she would have done anything for him.
Her only respite in her violent upbringing had been Eldric’s presence, even if she only observed him from afar, he was a beacon to her, the one person who highlighted her days, his carefree persona moving her young heart when only darkness and violence filled her life.
My heart arched for her and everything she went through, and even when upset at some of her actions, it is easy to judge when one has never had doubt and has always been loved. She is an enigma revealed all along this story, going from a lost girl to a determined woman all while being deadly efficient.
While their true acquaintance happens on a short span of time, it is a dance they have done for some time already, so they are not real strangers, they just did not realize they knew one another from afar.
Mrs Locke paints a narrative with a color scheme full of emotions, from anger, hate, hurt, betrayal to delight, love, joy, forgiveness…
I have just one reservation, the lack of epilogue leaves their HEA is more a happy for now end, as many things still need to be resolved.
Still I have no doubt Mrs Nicole Locke will close one way or another their arc and give them their right reward.
