I love the fact that this rich historical romance features some real people – including the hero & heroine. I felt as I were immersed in 16th century Scotland!
Mallory did a superb job of weaving in historical detail with the story. The hero was compelling, and the heroine grew to be a strong woman who was a great match for the hero. The story kept me interested from the very start with the fast pace and fantastic plot. The chemistry between the couple sizzled, and the dialogue was spot on. I highly recommend this book for lovers of historical romance!
Political intrigue, men in kilts, a strong heroine and a love that grows despite everything (including themselves). A page turner, that you will want to sneak one more chapter in before bed time.
Loved this book
A very entertaining read!
Actually have read this book twice. Loved it the first time and the second time even more!
I liked it.
Very well written, exciting story of two different characters of scotish clans.
Loved it, great story.
I felt trapped like the heroine at first because the plot draws you in to this world where women were often just a commodity. There was a lot of action and some romance, but the conflicts were stronger. Not just a breezy read, but a more solid story.
Great romance in an historical setting. Strong woman character
A very enjoyable read.
The plot was great. The female character was really strong.
This book brought these times to life for me. I loved the characters and how they interacted.
Enjoyed these characters! Great story line.
So it ends happily, but as to being a happily ever after, one never knows with a series if something happens later.
This is not the first book by this author I have read ( got caught in the Return of the Highlander series).
This book has a well developed story line and likable/hateable characters. The descriptions of the scenery makes it easy to imagine everything clearly.
At some parts I was like omg just listen to him ( and vis-versa). I did feel that when she shows up at Hume castle they make up a but too quickly, not much is talked about and not much came about with the mistress, I was kind of hoping it would be Allison telling her off or something and when the mistress is serving him drink he describes her as just a serving woman trying to get some action, but then a but later with allison he says the mistress brings drink and hits on him in front of allison but he tells her to go away. Maybe 2 different women? Anyway it doesn’t take away from the story for me and I will be reading the next book to follow more characters on their adventures 🙂
I picked this up as a freebie from Amazon and it sat in my TBR pile for awhile before I finally read it and now I wish I hadn’t waited because I really liked it. David was a great hero and even though I found Alison to be a bit naive and a poor decision-maker at times, I can’t wait to read about the other two Douglas sisters.
I enjoyed reading this story. The characters are well-defined and easy to get to know. Scotland and castles with a strong hero and a strong heroine as well. I like a story where it’s easy to get to know who the characters are and see them live up to what the author leads us to expect.
Very good book, the characters were amazing I love how they worked together and their own personal growth toword love even though their clans were enemies make this book hard to put down.
It was spell-bounding. I read it in one sitting; couldn’t put it down!
