Losing your ability to speak at the age of seventeen; it’s not normal or fair.
But trauma, has a way of throwing normality out the window.
Dani lives anything but a normal life.
Her sister is married to one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Her best friends are rockstar duo AD2.
And she has more love around her than most people experience in a lifetime.
But that doesn’t change the fact their … that doesn’t change the fact their parents are dead.
Or that it’s her fault.
It seems her new normal is being a mute, living on the inside, unable to actually communicate on the outside.
That is until Hollywood’s newest heartthrob Lincoln Greene hires her as his assistant for the summer.
He’s gorgeous, completely unavailable, and unobtainable.
But that doesn’t stop her from wondering…if things were different…would he want her?
If she was whole, would he be the other half?

Lincoln is a jokester, he’s light hearted and loves to get Dani going, “I’m sh***ing you, Dani. I was sixteen, drunk, and stupid. I wanted to get a badass python tattoo. It ended up looking like ***t, so I turned it into a full sleeve so that it actually resembled something other than a man’s p***s on my arm, because honestly, that’s what it looked like, no going around it.” Rachel has this way of making her characters lovable and likable (which is kinda the same thing but it needed to be said twice) Dani was no exception she has this inner strength about her, “yes!” I slammed my keys onto the table. “Real people wear clothes! Not everyone’s paid to take their clothes off.” I enjoyed this book I’m really looking forward to Zane’s book.
Capture is the first in a new series of standalones by Rachel Van Dyken, and it’s a crossover from one of her previous series. I don’t think I was missing out, but I’m definitely interested in going back to read the Seaside series now!
If you’re looking for a sweet, cute, fun, and easy read this is the book for you…it was exactly what I needed after finishing an all-consuming, emotional rea
This was such a sweet and fun read. I really enjoyed the depth of the story line and the development of the characters. I liked that any issues/drama in this story was based in reality and emotions NOT in miscommunication. I liked that the main female character did not talk for the first part of the story because as a reader I got to know her so much more then I would with words. The text messages were cute and the random emojis were fun. The humor in this book as me in stitches for most of the read. It was a light, sweet and refreshing story.
This was a well written and developed story and it was so addicting I could not put it down. I want to read the other books in this series. I do feel like I missed a bit of story line as I did not read the Seaside series first and jumped right into this secondary series, but the story was enjoyable.
PS: It was really fun to read about Oregon as this is my home state. I knew were all the places were and could see them in my minds eye as I read the story. It added greatly to my love of this story (not that that fact as any baring on my review).
Capture is the first book in the Seaside Pictures series spin off of Seaside series and damn i missed those Seaside crazy guys lol. Loved and enjoyed this story from the beginning. Another fantastic 5 star read by RVD!
Wow!!!! I truly loved this emotional romance! It had me laughing, crying, and sighing!! It was definitely nice to read something so emotionally different than most romance novels!
Because of the KP’s Crossover Collection, I wanted to meet the secondary characters mentioned, so I was curious about the story of Dani, Penelope’s cousin.
Dannae Garcia – Dani – suffered a severe trauma when she lost her parents in a car accident. To make matters worse, she feels guilty; the accident only happened because her father was driving because of her, one of her cheerleader competitions.
Going into a depressive mood, the gathering of accusations from the various people around Dani, made her close into herself, and she simply could not speak, developing selective mutism.
Dani’s sister, Pris, was happily married to Jamie Jaymeson, actor and director.
Jay treated Dani with all his affection, as if she were his younger sister.
In order to communicate, Demetri, of the rock duo AD2, gave the idea of she doing it through text messages.
To cheer her up, Jay has the idea of putting Dani as the personal assistant to 22-year-old actor Lincoln Greene, who would be the star of Jay’s upcoming movie.
After all the confusion has gone over that she does not want to work with Lincoln, and he does not know how to deal with her, they begin to “communicate” in such a free way, that to help him overcome a fear, Dani talks to him.
And he’s totally in love with her sweet voice !!
If the return of Dani’s speech was a source of happiness, knowing that he and Lincoln were falling in love was a matter of concern to everyone who loved her.
Besides, she was only 17 years old.
Confusions aside, they wanted to be together, but they would have to convince everyone that the womanizer Lincoln was not like that, and that he only had eyes for his Dani.
And once again I found myself in love with stories of secondary characters, and this time, rocker Zane “Saint” Andrews caught my eye.
Zane has a great secret. And even greater fear.
Now, let’s find out about it by reading his book.
4,5 stars
This was a beautiful emotional love story about second chances…..at life, at love, at living! Lincoln and Dani’s story was one that had me inhaling page after page, chapter after chapter of this gripping, mesmerizing all-consuming MUST read! Rachel definitely gives us a story that will leave you breathless!
After a traumatic trigger Dani finds herself Mute. Lincoln is a Hollywood star in need of an assistant. Dani thinks Lincoln is attractive but doesn’t let it shows. They have a kindred spirit type thing going on. The story is short. Loved the supporting characters.
Dani is a mute based on the past accident that took her parent’s lives and the anxiety that she deals with daily. She has been living this way and just trying to make it day to day for the sake of her sister and brother in-law.
Lincoln is a famous actor who has his own demons he is trying to outrun. When he moves to Seaside for a movie role, he needs an assistant, and Dani is perfect for the job.
I loved the texting aspect of this book. I loved how Dani didn’t lose her personality and wit. She was the same girl she had always been even though most people only saw her as a shell of a person.
Lincoln was so patient and understanding. My heart broke for both of them as they navigated this experience together and having to deal with overprotective brothers and an age gap. (Even though some of these scenes were so funny and some of my favorite.)
I did not read the Seaside series before reading this book, and I didn’t have any trouble figuring out the past events. However, it did make me want to go back and reread it! But first, I need Zane’s story. Oh my! He is probably my favorite secondary character of all time!
Great
She is mute because of anxiety. Her brother in law gets her to be an assistant to his star. Lincoln is trying help. Being an actor is hard. He’s 22, she is 17 almost 18. But he cares. Can he help her, and her him.
This was a fast read and funny..
Dani had a very bad experience that left her temporary without a voice.. she is the sister of a famous actress and the sister-in-law of a famous actor. trying to make her life easier, they give her the opportunity to work with them onset as the assistant of one of the most handsome and hot guys in Hollywood Lincoln Greene .. she didn’t expect him to be that breathtaking.. now is a matter of time to see if she will fall for his charms ..
Lincoln Greene was a very famous actor making his way in Hollywood, he has just a few months on set and he will be leaving soon for his next project and life.. but he didn’t count that his assistant was going to steal his heart and make him change all his future plans..
if you are looking for a soft ride and a good laugh.. this is a good book to get.
“You savor life. You don’t jump into it and wish for it to be over, because you never know how much time you’re going to be given. You should never get anything over with – no matter how scary it may be.”
The story of Dani and Linc in Capture was… okay. A damaged, next-door girl with traumatic past and the not-too-cocky-but-still-oh-so-confident movie star with bad past of his own see, really see each other, but can’t be together… A story told a million times. Dani is a minor, only 17, while Linc’s 22, and while I didn’t cheer on their relationship, I was okay with it. But sometimes it felt like both of them were 17, immature and lost kids. Sometimes, on the other side, they were 17 and 22 going on 30… Dani wasn’t my favorite person, but I liked some of her sass, and I *tried* to understand her even when I couldn’t because I know how, even though you can get over something, you can’t forget. Linc was sometimes my favorite, closet nerd book boyfriend, but I couldn’t reconcile that part of his character with the alpha he could become (over no reason, what’s more). The minus on main characters development is deserved in my opinion, although I have to admit I loved the intricate network of side characters.
Recommended as an okay story, if you like famous-and-cocky-movie-star-falls-in-love-with-a-shy-ish-girl kind of story.
