She made a deal with the Dakkari devil. Now, he owns her.On the unforgiving planet of Dakkar, I did what all the humans in our village did: kept my head down, worked to provide for my family, and I certainly didn’t break any Dakkari laws to risk inciting the alien race’s merciless wrath.Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for my brother and one careless mistake brings a horde of the nomadic, … mistake brings a horde of the nomadic, barbarian Dakkari straight to our doorstep, led by their powerful horde king—a cold, ruthless, battle-scarred warrior demanding retribution.
In order to save my brother’s life, I do the unthinkable.
I sell myself to the horde king as his war prize. I agree to warm his furs, to travel with his horde across the wild lands of Dakkar, and to never see my family again.
But as I struggle with my new reality, I discover that the surly, mysterious, dominant horde king never intended for me to be his concubine…
He wants me as his queen.

Wow! This was my first book by Zoe Draven, and it certainly won’t be my last! I absolutely gobbled up Captive of the Horde King! It was addictive and I was immediately drawn to the characters. I cannot wait to read more into this world as Zoey writes them. Until then, I’m headed for more of this author’s books! So good! I highly recommend this book if you like a sexy alpha male who is protective and gentle for his mate. Five I WANT A HORDE KING TOO stars!! Bravo!
I don’t know what to say.. this was the first book that I read from Zoey Draven and I could definitely say that I am glad that I read this book. The story was just amazing, congratulations to Zoey Draven for writing such a perfect and page turning book. I read it for three time and I cannot wait to read the next book from the series. I keep on checking on my email to get news that book two would soon be here in my hands, more like phone
What a wonderful SFR romance. I loved every second of this book and can’t wait to read more from this world. Beautiful story.
First, I enjoy reading books by this author. Second, this new series did not disappoint. Enjoy reading about the unfortunate fortunate situation they were in. Love the banter from the characters. Can’t wait to read the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed this advance reader copy of this book
Ah I loved this. The whole sci-fi paranormal vibe really hit the spot.
Luna and Arokan’s story is not your average love story. Let’s just say they don’t get off on the best start but even that can’t stop the tensions rising quickly between them.
These two had me all up in my feels. The chemistry is fire but the connection that builds slowly is the sweetest. I fell hard in love with this unique world and it’s depthy characters. It’s world building at its best. The characters have depth that made it easy to relate to them despite the otherworldly aspect. Not only that but they are so likeable. Despite coming from different worlds they really weren’t that different and honestly they were just so perfect for each other.
I was totally consumed in their world. I laughed, swooned, ranted and raved through out. I enjoy the plot twists and felt all the feels. It’s a great story and start to a series. I can’t wait to read the next book!.
This story was a delightful and delicious fantasy romance romp that I thoroughly enjoyed! There are harsh edges and soft ones, tempered steel that protects and cuts away at the dangers, the power of communication and learning how to adapt so you’re not just living but thriving.
Luna and Arokan are EVERYTHING. Fierce yet caring yet loyal yet honorable and so much more. Learning to overcome differences, accept new circumstances, and make the best of strange customs and figuring out how to adjust and boss the new lifestyle you’ve been thrown in.
Toss in family drama, enemies, misunderstandings, and learning how to adjust to the new life, along with a heady dose of lust turned love and you too will be captivated and Captive of the Horde King!
I cannot wait to read book 2!
Loved the world and rich description. Sucked me in!
This book was a fine cross between a Johanna Lindsey vikings romance and the ruler of the Dothraki from Game of Thrones. It had the same thrill and sex appeal, except this king lives.
However, there were a few grammatical errors that did not detract from the interesting storyline
This is a hidden treasure
Zoey Draven has sneaked herself into the alien SF romance genre with a stunningly well crafted tale of two cultures, and two very different points of view, as personified by the Dakkari Horde King and his wiling/unwilling human hostage. Our heroine is equal parts desperate and resigned when she volunteers herself in her brother’s stead to appease the Horde King’s anger. She expects death – but he keeps her alive to “serve” him. And she certainly does that, albeit not quite the way he expected. She’s the farthest you can get from a meek little victim. With wit and understanding she turns captivity and slavery into partnership and power. Her alien master is far from the savage he appears to be, and much smarter than his horde gives him credit for. No spoilers, but HEA happens. The larger series plot, concerning the dynamics of conflicting species attitudes and cultures on the planet Dakkaris, is fascinating, well-constructed, and complex enough to sustain a series for quite a few books. Great world-building, a good eye for descriptive detail, and the ability to infuse a character with life, passion, and a unique point of view are the hallmarks of Zoey Draven’s writing – I really want to see where this series goes!
Luna is sacrificing herself for love. Five Star
Luna and Kivan are all that is what’s left of her family. On a planet that is not their own, stranded with other humans, a culture foreign to the very human existence. Alone and afraid, she has taken care of her little brother since being orphaned so long ago. With little to eat, no hope, no way to escape the rules of the Dakkari. Break those rules, and your very existence is in question. Then on the day, Kivan dose something that will surely get her brother killed. He sets a fire on the ground to help with the crop’s land that is failing the village. The only problem is, it’s one of the rules that not allowed and has substantial consequences, your life. Knowing what’s coming, Luna will sacrifice herself for her brother so he may live.
The Horde King was a dark and imposing figure that commanded his people of the horde. Humans were never in his camp before, tent, and bed, but Luna stirs something within him as no other has. The small human stood up against his Dakkari solders to protect her brother. What he’s about to do will change his village, command, existence, and call into question his very sanity. She knows nothing of our lifestyle, and he doesn’t know anything about hers. The Horde King only knows one thing, Luna will test everything he’s has known of them, and maybe we can find a different way to coexist.
As the season moves on, read as The Hord King and Luna overcome mountains of misunderstandings, cultural differences, and finding both can help each other find a way to overcome the very laws that set them apart.
Captive of the Horde King with its deep characters, new world beings, clashes of culture, and disagreements is a delightful book to read. I look forward to the next one, written by Miss Daven.
Zoey has to be one of my top favorite sci-fi romance authors. This is the first book I’ve listened to so far on Audible, and I am counting the days until she gets the next Horde King book up on Audible… but… maybe I can’t wait! I’m definitely in love with these gentle warriors. If only we could get to Dekkar. I loved how she gave us a dark warrior with a huge heart. Superb!
Lily S. Thomas – Author of the Ice Age Alphas series and the Galactic Courtship series
I found this book interesting, but it isn’t named “dark” for nothing and some readers may be put off by the dark king’s initial behavior towards the female lead character. I almost put it down, but I didn’t and overall I liked this book. I think it was well written.
Long, not quite my cup of tea.
This one surprised me. I imagined it would be a typical “bodice-ripper” as we older folks used to call them. You know what I mean: the guy/girl/trauma/hot looks/sex/happily ever-after formula. Nope – it was some of that but much better. The characters had depth to them and there was a decent story line. It was quite imaginative with interesting background and strange creatures. A good read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
great read
Great book! Loved it
This book is more than just a romance. There’s so much more to it than that. That’s why I love science fiction so much. The characters and the lessons in the truly great sci-fi tales are so rich and meaningful. I caught the sniffles several times during this story. Really good if you like some aliens in your romance.
Loved, loved, loved it! Glad I read it and definitely recommend it to others. I actually have read it a couple of times!
While I would of liked better character facial descriptions, I greatly enjoyed the Dothraki-like feel of the story, kind of a Native American romance throwback.
Zoey Draven is always an automatic buy for me.
Not a fan of sci-fi romance but I loved this book! Can’t wait for more!
