She made a deal with the Dakkari devil. Now, he owns her.On the unforgiving planet of Dakkar, I did what all the humans in our village did: kept my head down, worked to provide for my family, and I certainly didn’t break any Dakkari laws to risk inciting the alien race’s merciless wrath.Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for my brother and one careless mistake brings a horde of the nomadic, … mistake brings a horde of the nomadic, barbarian Dakkari straight to our doorstep, led by their powerful horde king—a cold, ruthless, battle-scarred warrior demanding retribution.
In order to save my brother’s life, I do the unthinkable.
I sell myself to the horde king as his war prize. I agree to warm his furs, to travel with his horde across the wild lands of Dakkar, and to never see my family again.
But as I struggle with my new reality, I discover that the surly, mysterious, dominant horde king never intended for me to be his concubine…
He wants me as his queen.
Captive of the Horde King is a full-length SFR novel (85,000+ words) with an HEA. It kicks off a brand new series, Horde Kings of Dakkar, by Zoey Draven. Each book follows a different couple and can be read as a standalone.

Waiting impatiently for the next in series!
Who doesn’t fantasize about being loved and cared for by a gorgeous, strong protective alien? (Overlook the claws and tail!) It’s the perfect theme with a happily-ever after without too much overdone sex scenes! I like when an author developed characters and relationships without relying on Penthouse sex forum fantasies!
I love the development of the Horde civilization! If only society worked that way! Can’t wait for more in this series!!!
Let me start by saying that I loved this story! This is the first book that I read from the writer Zoey Draven. I decided to read this book because it was mentioned a few times by other readers and they also mentioned that the story had the same feel as ‘The golden dynasty’ by Kristen Ashley (a favourite story of mine). I’m so happy that I read it because the story did have the same feel to me.
Luna is a human who catches the eye of one of the six Horde Kings of Dakkar. The Horde Kings are the best warriors of Dakkar. Respected and feared by everyone on the planet. Luna may be only human and not as strong as the Dakkari but she does have a strength deep inside her. She isn’t afraid to work and even go against the Horde King who keeps her captive. And the more time she spends in his presence, the more she is fascinated by him and her new life with the Dakkari. But not everyone is happy with Luna’s presence in the Horde. Danger is lurking. Can her Horde King protect her against it? Will Luna survive?
The story is told from Luna’s POV. She’s a great character, she has a gentle heart but she is very protective of the ones that she loves and she speaks her mind when needed but always respectful. The Horde king warrior is very alpha (and he has a tail!), fierce and strong but he can be gentle when he is alone with Luna and he respects her opinion.
The writing was very fluent, the chemistry between the main characters were wonderful and the second characters were great too. I really loved the world that the writer built here and the Dakkari people were awesome. The sex scenes were steamy and hot. ‘Captive by the Horde King’ is a fantastic read.
I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series!!!!!
I recommend this book to readers who loved ‘The golden dynasty’ by Kristen Ashley or ‘Drink of me’ by Jacquelyn Frank.
It is the love story that draws you in and makes you want to keep reading. It is a bit too formulaic, but still manages to be suspenseful enough to keep your attention.Simple story but ok.
What a wonderful start to another new Si-Fi romance series, the Horde Kings of Dakkar, from Zoey Draven! There are many layers in this story that draws you in and the romance between Luna and Arokan is particularly touching, given the stark differences between them.
Luna is a human living with other humans on a planet called Dakkar. They stay within their own village and know little about the rest of their planet. When the actions of her younger brother, Kivan, bring a horde of aliens, the Dakkari, to their village, Luna trades her freedom to spare her brother’s life.
Luna is taken by the Dakkari leader, the Vorakkar (Arokan), and so begins a new journey for Luna…in more ways than one.
Although there is a universal language which allows Luna to understand what is being said by the Dakkari (when they speak it), everything else is foreign to her; their customs, food, clothing, their way of life and most of all, the idea that she is to be Akoran’s queen.
But there is more to this story than what you might expect. As much as Luna has to learn about the Dakkari and their king, Arokan needs to learn about Luna as a human and an individual. And in learning about one another and their cultures, both Arokan and Luna embark on a Journey of Discovery together.
What obstacles and dangers do they face? Can they understand and learn about each others’ belief and views? Will Luna accept her new way of life or mourn the loss of her old life? Can they find happiness together?
As I said above, this is a wonderful story with many layers – I can’t wait for the next story in the Horde Kings of Dakkar series!
Holy Batman this book!!!
Words cannot describe how much I adored this sci-fi barbarian type romance.
So Arokan is a horde king, He is Dakkari the native species of Dakkar a nomadic alien race.
Huge brawny warriors that to Luna initially seem so alien and scary.
Luna is human one of the many settlers on their planet and when her brother breaks the rules bringing down the wrath of there overlords luna begs to take his punishment herself.
Instead the Horde king takes her in the old ways as his captured bride and spares her life.
So originally this was very much a battle of wills but it is also a story of putting aside differences and reaching across the divide all in the name of love.
What I really adored about this was though Luna is initially resistant she is a sensible girl who knows when to bend and when to stand firm.
She is not silly and immature and though she makes mistakes she is only too happy to atone and admit them.
She also quickly realises that her initial judgment was based more on her own fears and things could be a lot worse than they are.
Arokan surprised me he was still very much an alpha male taking what he wants but he tempers this with unexpected care, understanding and gentleness.
I adored how gruff and protective he was easing Luna into her new reality and showcasing a patience that caught me by surprise.
I really adored the beautiful simplicity of there love story.
So despite the alien landscape, this had a massive barbarian vibe to it.
If you loved KA’s Golden Dynasty then you are probably going to love this one it has a similar vibe to it.
Although this is less harsh and had a much sweeter feel overall than that one.
This was all told in Luna’s POV but if you sign up for the newsletter there’s a bonus chapter from the man himself which I really enjoyed.
This was such an unusual read with fabulous imaginative world-building I highly recommend this book.

This was an interesting story. I like how authors can make a whole world apart from what you have. Arokan and Luna have some bumps to overcome in their marriage but they go about them with taking needed advice from people around them.
Great read!
Simply put, I loved it. I was worried the heroine was going to continually do stupid stuff and wreck a good thing but thankfully the author didn’t go that route. Instead, I totally fell for the characters and don’t want their story to end. It was a great audiobook and I look forward to listening to more in this series. The narrator is a pro with a gorgeous voice.
Lia Langola really brought these characters to life, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her narration.
What I loved the most about this story is that it doesn’t all just fall into place easily. Things have to be worked out. Relationships take time to be built. I loved watching the world they inhabit and learning about it, how things work and how the species interact. I really enjoyed the whole book even holding my breath at points when…well I’ll let you find out that bit! I definitely want to know more about this world and it’s characters.
4.5 stars
Wow! This is my first Zoey Draven book and I’m honestly impressed. Plus, since I have been going through a tiny bit of GOT withdrawals, this book has helped me out of that funk for a day lol. I need to read more barbarian books, it sounds like its a whole new world being immersed in that genre type. I can’t wait for book 2 since the epilogue hinted of whats to come next. Im wondering also if there is an overall theme arc to the series as well, which I think there will be. Zoey is hoping for Oct. 2019, I have read on her fb page.
I HIGHLY recommend the audiobook, Lia Langola did an amazing job narrating.
I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the audiobook or the content of my review.
Loved this story!
Wow, Zoey Draven has written a real winner here! I’ve just started reading alien romances and this was one of the best. I enjoyed how Luna was portrayed as strong and nobody’s doormat. Looking forward to book 2 in the series.
This is Zoey Draven’s best book to date. Greater character depth than in her Luxiria series, which I enjoyed as light-hearted reads. Rich world-building in this series, and I’m looking forward to book #2. There were a few minor typos, but those were a rarity.
Great job, Zoey!
Captivating, compelling and un-put-downable, this book grabbed my attention right from the first few pages and then it never let me go! Luna, so brave and strong and proud, and Arakor, the hulking horde king, have the strangest meet-cute ever, but then they have to work through their respective issues. I loved the realism of their relationship, I mean, as their love thing grew, you could tell they pissed each other off, sometimes on purpose, but they found a way to work through their stuff, obviously. There are some unexpected twists that I felt building up, but when they happened, I was like, awww heck no, kill the bee snitch. I didn’t think Luna would survive at one point. This is a super book, kept my interest right to the end!
An excellent read!
Wow! I loved this story!! I am not a big fan of alien romance but Draven writes them soooooooo well that I have no choice but to fall in love with them. In this story we have Arokan, a Vorrakar which means King of the Horde of Drakkar finds his human mate. Luna born on this planet, malnourished and courageous, sacrifices her life to the Horde King when her younger brother does something foolish. I loved the way Arokan was with Luna. I applaud that Luna used her smarts and tried to understand the situation she was in. Her wise thinking and bravery proved useful and she found that she was wrong about so many things and Arokan learned to be more merciful and giving to her human village. All in all a wonderful read filled with compassion, understanding and knowledge within both races!!! Awesome read!
I was surprised how much I liked this book! Based on so many reviewers comparing this to the Golden Dynasty, perhaps I’ll check that out, too.
Luna lives in a human settlement on the planet Dakkar. The rule is don’t break any laws set down by the Dakkari, and the most severe punishment is set for doing anything to harm the planet. When her brother sets a field on fire to make it more fertile, the Dakkari demand his life as punishment. Luna trades her life for his. However, the king of the horde investigating decides to take her. She thinks she’s sold herself into a life as his whore, but the Dakkari don’t take whores. He wants her for his queen.
The horde king doesn’t understand anything about Luna. While he can speak her language, he doesn’t understand her ways, and why she’s so malnourished. Over time, they learn about each other. Luna discovers the Dakkari aren’t the monsters the humans believe them to be and the horde king learns that humans are barely surviving on his planet.
