“A Doc Ford novel has more slick moves than a snake in the mangroves. In Captiva, Randy Wayne White takes us places that no other Florida mystery writer could hope to find.”—Carl HiaasenRandy Wayne White is acclaimed as “wildly inventive” (The San Diego Union-Tribune), “a wonderful writer” (Paul Theroux), “a fine storyteller” (Peter Matthiessen), and “the rightful heir to John D. MacDonald” (The … heir to John D. MacDonald” (The Tampa Tribune-Times). Now he delivers a wicked thriller that sends government agent-turned-marine biologist Doc Ford into dangerous new waters, as a Florida fishing dispute escalates into a deadly war that reaches across the ocean…

Randy Wayne White’s Doc Ford series is reliable entertainment. I’ve read all of them, many more than once. Highly recommended.
I’ve read many White books. I liked this one, but not his best. Ford runs off to find out who killed is girl and sometimes it got a little confusing.
This is a Dr. Ford mystery that takes place in Captiva. There was much detail into Dr. Ford’s work as a marine biologist , which had nothing to do with the story of a man being blown up on a dock, while trying to blow up boats. But Ford investigates the many layers of local politics while finding romance with a local island woman. His hippie friend was an interesting character and seems to be in other Dr. Ford stories. The motive behind the explosion is explained throughout the story and we learn a little about Dr. Ford’s mysterious past and why he cut himself off from the world to live and work in a small fishing community in Southwest Florida.
Highly recommend this author!!
I love all of the action that happens in these books. The story moves the characters are as weird as I am and the pace is great as well
One of many Doc Ford exploits
My first by this author… won’t be my last
Seriously good read. But I miss Dewey Nye and her sled dog eyes
Loved this and all of Randy Wayne White’s Doc Ford Series. He makes Doc Ford so real, the action builds along with the suspense in all his novels. One of the best series ever written. I’m about halfway through his entire Doc Ford series and can’t wait to read his next one.
Though this author’s writing has become a bit formulaic. Guess that’s why he is compared to JD McDonald.
Too wordy and not one of his best
Great ending to a good story
Love some Randy Wayne White. Very good read. You’ll love it.
This was another good Doc Ford novel. It gave me the entertainment I have come to expect from his adventures.
One of the best Doc Ford books. I always enjoy the interesting informative gems woven seamlessly into these stories.
I try to read all the Doc Ford books.
The wonderful characters and almost continuous action make this a great read.
One of White’s early Doc Ford books that I read while down on the islands. He was a fishing guide and part-time author till the Doc Ford series took off. He’d actually deliver books to the local stores to sell and that’s exactly how I found the series. It went off track some years back, but the early books have a more complex Doc Ford, one who has doubts and deep regrets about his past activities. Later he becomes more vigilante action type typical of White’s lightweight Stryker books. Read this and enjoy the richly introspective and thoughtful Doc Ford trying to reclaim his soul in a place that offers great peace – and sometimes, great violence.
Local author with local sites for story.
Almost stopped reading, but, it finally started to grab me.
