Welcome to Normal, Kentucky~ where nothing is normal. A Campers and Criminal Mystery Series is another brainchild of USA Today Bestselling Author Tonya Kappes. If you love her quirky southern characters and small town charm with a mystery to solve, you’re going to love her new cozy mystery series! When the principal of Normal High School asks Mae West to teach a semester on small town economics, … economics, since she helped bring the thriving economy in Normal, Kentucky when she used her brilliant ideas to bring the Happy Trails Campground back to life, Mae is thrilled and happy to teach the young people.
But when a fellow teacher and archery Coach Roger Carlson, is found stone-cold dead, facedown in one of Happy Trails Campground campers with an arrow sticking out of his back, it puts a damper on the thriving campground when tourists cancel their reservations and Mae’s excitement to teach.
Mae’s hankering to snoop into the coach’s private life and find out exactly why he was renting a camper in Happy Trails and not living at home with his young wife. Her efforts don’t leave her short on suspects. Especially, since Mae uncovered many unhappy parents who had relied on an archery scholarship and perfect ACT scores as their child’s ticket to get out of Normal and go to college.
Mae has to be careful or she just might find an arrow with her name written on it.

Don’t start reading at bedtime, because you won’t want to put it down. A local resident is murdered at the campground and the girls are on the case. As expected of this author, this book is skillfully written with a tight plot and great characters. There are multiple story lines within this cozy mystery and a surprise at the end. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.

Here’s another winner by Tonya Kappes. Canyons, Caravan and Cadavers is the 6th book with Mae West and the laundry club trying to solve a murder that seems to be tied to the high school. Mae was already set to teach economics for 6 weeks anyway so that she can investigate the murder. I just love the fictional town of Normal Kentucky. I can’t wait to go back. I highly recommend this series and book.
I received a copy of this from the author Thoughts and opinions expressed are mine alone.
I loved this book from start to finish. Patrick and Mae make an amazing couple and when they are together they make one terrific crime fighting duo. He has the law behind him and she has great instincts and sleuthing skills. It had me guessing until the very end who the murderer was. Great read!
Mae can’t wait to start her six week teaching job and take a break from sleuthing and dead bodies. Well, Normal, KY is anything but normal so … she finds a dead body and does some detective work. The author did a great job of twisting and turning this mystery – I was a little stumped. Hank and Mae are finding out their relationship isn’t always smooth sailing. Looking forward to the next book in this series. I voluntarily read an arc copy and this is my review.
This book is a great addition to the series. Mae and Hank are taking steps to further their relationship, despite what others feel. The ladies have gotten together again to solve the latest murder, but ended up solving three. This story was filled with excitement as I could not put the book down until it was over. I’m sure that the next book will even more exciting. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy and the review posted is of my own opinion
Another great book by Tonya Kappes! Welcome to Normal, KY where Mae West receives the key to the city and get to teach a class on Economics at the local high school. It seems bodies are dropping everywhere around the school. So Mae and her Laundry Club girls need to find the killer fast in order to save the economy of the town. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy.
Mae West, owner of Happy Trails Campground, is honored with a key to the city and offered to teach an economics course about small businesses.
When Mae goes to speak to Scott Goodman, who is also the high school coach for archery, concerning the economics class she finds Coach Goodman dead from an arrow. Scott Goodman was staying in one of Mae’s campers. Mae overhears what could be a threat by some unhappy parents.
When Dottie Swaggert, the campground manager, informs Mae that cancellations are rolling in. Dottie and Mae both worry that Happy Trails may go under. So, Dottie, Mae and the Laundry Club ladies come up with a plan to do some sleuthing on their own.
Since Mae is subbing at the school, she figures she can use it to do some snooping.
Hank Sharp, Mae’s boyfriend, takes Mae to meet his family. The meeting doesn’t go well, and Hank and Mae leave. Mae and Ellis, Hank’s sister, have a few encounters where Ellis tries to make Mae as uncomfortable as she can. Mae wants Hank’s family to like her, but Ellis appears to be trying to hook Hank up with someone else, and Hank’s mother is aghast to learn that Mae was married to a felon.
When another body turns up, Mae’s poking to find a killer may get her killed.
Fun series! One of my favorites!
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
“Canyons, Caravans, & Cadavers” book #6 in A Camper & Criminals Cozy written by Tonya Kappes is such a fun clean cozy mystery. I absolutely love this series, I think it is my favorite. It has a down home setting, unique quirky characters and a storyline that keeps you guessing until the end. So many possibilities. Even though this book is #6 it can easily be read as a standalone. The story is so good you will probably want to start with book one. I got pulled in from the first page and didn’t put it down until the last page was read. I love Mae, her Laundry Club and the small town Of Normal. Looking forward to the next installment in this series. I highly recommend this fun clean cozy mystery!!
