Joshua Dawson is my best friend’s ex-boyfriend. That alone should be reason enough for me to keep my distance. Add in that he’s a well mannered, loyal, hardworking artist and I should be running in the other direction. He’s damn near perfect, and I prefer my men hard to love and easy to leave. Josh’s only flaw is he wants forever, and for the first time I might want the same. But loving someone … someone doesn’t mean you deserve them.
He’s all I want and everything I can’t have.
This is a full length standalone friends to lovers romance.

I was pleasantly surprised when I started to reading this book and see these are 2 characters from the Quake series. Joshua and Elle were friends, but started to have an attraction to each other. Then began a love hate relationship. Will they just give in? I like this book as it has characters from many of Jacob Chance other great books
I really enjoyed this book. The chemistry between these two was off the charts when they were near each other. You could feel how much they both cared about each other even if they wouldn’t admit it to each other. Josh never gave up on Elle. Most guys would have moved on from her dismissiveness and not looked back, but she meant too much to him. She fought her feelings for him because she felt like she was not good enough for him.
This book was well written and flowed. If you’re looking for a friends to lovers, this is the book for you.
Canvas was so good, as was this cover! That prologue got me and now realize what it all meant reading this story! Josh and Elle’s story was a friends to lovers romance with some hurtles! Always enjoy a read by Jacob Chance!
This was my first read by this author, and now I need to read more by him! The story of Josh and Elle will tug at your emotions and make you believe in love! These two don’t exactly like each other, or at least that is what I thought. They are both attracted to each other, but something from Elle’s past is preventing her from exploring any relationships. Josh will do anything to change her mind, but will it work? You know in your heart they belong together, but life doesn’t always go as planned, or does it? If you want to know if these two amazing characters end up together, then read this book! It is truly fantastic!
Josh & Elle…….
I loved this book! I love this cover! Everything about this book was creative. The writing flows well as it always does with this author. I thought there was great chemistry and tension between Josh and Elle. In addition, they are characters that you easily fall in love with. I admit to wondering about my like for Elle at the beginning but once I got into her perspective, I knew she was a strong likable heroine.
Josh and Elle have known each other since college. We actually get to meet them in Quake & Quiver, which are interconnected books. I also loved that in Canvas we get to see what the other friends have been up to.
Josh and Elle started as friends but during the past several months, their friendship began to develop into more. There was scorching chemistry and a ton of sexual tension around them. Unfortunately there were issues you’ll read about that did not bring them together smoothly. But when they finally came together, it was beautiful, believable and so hot.
There is some light suspense; enough to give your heart that little kick of panic. But it didn’t drag on and it was handled well. At least I thought it was a perfect resolution.
Another point I’d like to add was how perfectly this book’s cover depicted the story. We all love covers and for a lot of people, they are the true selling point. However, as sexy as our favorite covers are, they don’t always paint the perfect picture of the story. In fact, Canvas has one of my favorite covers of the year!
I absolutely recommend this book. It is a standalone so you don’t have to read the interconnected books to follow. However, for your entertainment I recommend you do.
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂

Canvas…the cover! Ooh my, it’s perfectly fitting to a story dedicated to Joshua Dawson and Elle Johnson whom we met on several occasions in previous workings and includes some other favourite characters, especially a glimpse of my book boyfriend Kyle McKenzie that had me swooning all over again. That being said, I so have a secret soft spot for Josh.
Sweet dependable Josh has been harbouring some feelings for Elle for some time, but they seem to rub each other up the wrong way when they’re in one another’s presence. Joshua met Elle via his best friend Janny who he had a brief fling with, but she’s now happily married to Kyle and he knows that it was never meant to be. Josh is a very talented artist and is busy getting his tattoo parlour business off the ground. Everything in his life seems to be falling into place except for the one thing or rather… the one girl he wants, Elle. Josh is a really good guy, but I detected some hidden depths within him and was intrigued to learn about his background considering the kind of gentle soul he is.
Elle Johnson. Wow, this young lady certainly thinks so little of herself! She has equally deep feelings for Josh but is afraid that she’s not worthy of him; like she doesn’t deserve some happiness. Elle sells herself short and I think that is why she’s previously just hooked up with guys. But josh is different. He sees her and that scares Elle. She does nothing but try to push him away. Elle is hard-working, beautiful and sassy and wants Josh despite of her inner turmoil.
Will these two finally give in to their feelings and decide to give it ago? I really hoped so because the abundance of chemistry and the deep connection they have enthralled me. And I most certainly couldn’t argue that they’d make a steamy duo if they were able to pull it off. Theirs is a story overflowing with suspense and the edge of your seat curveball thrown my way simply made me think nothing about it was cut and dry. I always wondered why Elle was lacking in self-confidence; however, I got to discover the reasons when the past catches up.
Yet again, I was treated to a well-written flawless story full of romance, mystery and the steaminess in it literally bowled me over. This book isn’t just about hot scenes though. It’s so much more, giving the reader a bigger insight into the lives of Josh and Elle. The dual narrative couldn’t have been better as I like to know what each and everyone is thinking and in this story, there’s never a dull moment. The angst in Canvas is as such that at times all I wanted to do was bang their heads together; nonetheless, I had endless faith in their creator. Would the author be able to make things right in my anticipation to find out what was in store for his protagonists? Mentioned earlier, we get a to meet up with characters from other books where Elle and josh appeared briefly. Canvas can be read a standalone as it gives us a whole lot more. Mr Chance is one of my favourite authors as he manages to entertain, captivate and one thing is for sure, his storytelling got me flipping the pages!
Awesome story, I loved it! I absolutely loved the characters and their relationships. Phenomenal writing, there wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
Canvas drew me in with its stunning designed cover and its intriguing synopsis which depicts the story perfectly. Josh & Ellie’s romantic saga is a creative masterpiece with colorful, resilient, & complex characters with dark shadows and light shades that entwine together. Right from the beginning with a prologue going back five years ago that an occurence connects to the present day. When past history collides with the future, a bombshell suspenseful twist captures your heart. What started as the frienemies blossoms into something more with passion and intrigue.
After I finished reading this novel I went back and read a couple reviews and saw that this can be read as a complete standalone but it is not a complete stand alone as this couple are supporting character’s in
Quake Series (Quake & Quiver), and cross over series Delve (Delve & Tied)
As, the synopsis stated that this is a complete standalone and I disagree hence the four * rating instead of five. I missed out on getting to know these two characte’r’s before hand and now I need to go back and read the other four books which are already on my kindle. I felt like I was missing something as to Ellie’s & Josh’s background and now I know why. This would have been a five star read & more fun to read if I read the other books first. I will be rereading this one once I read the others.
The writing style is exhilarating and I’m looking forward to reading the other crossover series. A well crafted novel that will leave you craving more.
4.5 stars!!! Working my way through Jacob’s backlist of books and was excited for this one. Not only is the cover drop dead gorgeous, but I had heard great things about this read. Elle and Josh’s relationship was one of friends, enemies, lovers and everything in between. I thoroughly enjoyed their journey and the tension, angst and chemistry that they shared. Well done, Jacob!
Jacob Chance has once again written a phenomenal book that will leave you with your heart soaring and leave you smiling once you’ve finished. This book is the perfect combination of close, playful friendships, sexy encounters and suspenseful edge of your seat moments. A true testament of Jacob’s writing style.
This book was unbelievably beautiful and a true masterpiece. I loved Josh and Elle’s friends to enemies to lovers relationship. It had so many ups and downs, twists and turns, that sometimes I didn’t know which way I was going, but nonetheless, I loved every minute of the emotional rollercoaster. It’s was such an incredible love story! Jacob did a masterful job with Elle and Josh’s characters. There is so much emotional depth within these characters.
I loved everything about Canvas. It was an emotional, heartfelt and beautiful read. Jacob Chance is one of my favourite authors as he always manages to entertain, captivate his audience and his gift for storytelling is second to none.
Highly recommended!!
What a great storyline! We first met Josh and Elle in Quake and their story is my favourite in this series. This is a standalone but I’d recommend reading the other books first because they are all really good.
Josh is a sweet, sexy and all round nice guy. He’s the best friend of Janny after being dumped by her. His work has been commissioned by the Boston City Hall and he is an up and coming artist. There’s quite a bit about himself lying beneath the surface which he hasn’t shared with his friends. Elle is a gorgeous brunette, who plays the field and unabashedly loves sex! No-one has truly loved her in her life and she has always played the perfect part as a daughter. Everything is about appearances and she appears to be perfectly happy and carefree but she isn’t. Josh and Elle shared a unforgettable kiss in Las Vegas which has tormented them both. When Kyle and Janny get married they drop their guard and spend the night together. The next morning Elle jumps up, thanks him, says this is our little secret and walks out! Josh is shattered but moves on with his life even though she is always on his mind.
I love everything about this book! I love the amazing cover, the characters, and most definitely how well the writing flows throughout the entire book!
This was my first time reading one of Jacob’s book, so before starting I didn’t really know what to expect. It definitely exceeded any and all expectations I could of had of the book or of Jacob as an author. I was hooked within the first few pages. Canvas contains just the right amount of romance, drama, and suspense to keep the readers begging for more!
Josh & Elle:
I absolutely love Josh! This artist is a loyal, sweet, and caring gentleman, but do not let that fool you because this man is 100 percent alpha.
Elle is a beautiful independent woman with a brutal past. Her past left her wary of having any emotional involvement with any man, leading her to a life full of one night stands.
The two of them were really close friends, until Elle realizes she cares about Josh more than she wants to admit and tries to fight her emotions by pushing him away. That works just fine, until her and Josh share a mind blowing kiss at a mutual friends wedding that causes her feelings to multiply.
No matter how much Elle just wants to avoid Josh at all cost, she can’t when they share a mutual friend and go to gatherings together. Eventually the two of them must decide whether or not they want to explore their feelings and start a relationship.
Everything isn’t always as easy as you would think they would be. These two will face a couple hard times together, including Elle’s past becoming part of their present.
I received an ARC for an honest unbiased review!!
I LOVED this book! I laughed, I was teary eyed and I got irritated. So many feels. I am so glad Josh & Elle got their HEA. This is one of my favorites by Jacob.Josh can be my book boyfriend any day.
Tell me who doesn’t think this cover is pretty awesome. If I hadn’t already read several of Jacob Chance’s books, then I would’ve just bought it just because of this awesome cover. The story is a friends to lover romance. The characters are amazing and on my list of my favorite 2017 list. It’s eitger I hate you or I love you but then it’s I hate you all over again. Jacob Chance made me feel how much he wanted us to feel the connection he was trying to portray in his writing, and it sure did feel that which heach of his characters
Check it…Buy it! Read it! Love it! You won’t regret it!
LIFE IS ABOUT CREATING YOURSELF
I am so humbled to have had the pleasure to read my first Jacob Chance book. Did it matter that some of the residing characters within CANVAS happened to be familiar faces inside his other books (Quake, Quiver), but for me I was meeting them for the very first time. Definitely not! First impressions are so important – Josh and Elle are testament to that.
How do you struggle to fight the inner demons while maintaining a confident demeanor to the world at large and keeping secrets from your close friends?
Behaving and treating those that you love the most, in an unacceptable manner. You know, you regret but you have little self worth to stop.
Succumbing to the manipulative emotional abuse of your parental figure that is supposed to care and look after you. Just how far do you sell your heart and soul to protect someone you love deeply. That’s only the start of secrets that are buried deep within Elle’s psyche and her story to tell…
Behind her confidence and snarky attitude and words is a beautiful, young woman, that desperately needs help, if you care to listen beyond the attitude and words you’re hearing and know all is not what it seems.
The person who is by her side even when he’s not is ever her protector, even when he loves her badly and things aren’t always working the way one wants. Standing before her protecting and guarding her
Standing beside her loving her hard
Standing behind her watching her grow
Josh… the quintessential tattooed man. The gentle creative soul inside with a toughness when it’s required to protect those he loves. Strong, silent, charming and self- contained awesomeness. Knows exactly what he wants, even when it hurts the most. Always willing to set Elle free when she runs, just to bring her back home where she belongs.
Quote that pertains to my thoughts of Josh and Elle’s relationship through their friendship, those stumbling blocks along the pathway to their love.
A journey is the BEGINNING of one thing and the END of something else.
It’s the road that leads you away from HOME and the path that brings you back to where you BELONG. ~Author Unknown
Like Josh with Elle, I was captured with Jacob’s beautifully written, sexy story. It’s friends that have changed their journey, feelings have changed and grown. Now they find themselves attracted, falling in love but it doesn’t always run smooth and the words that are needed to be said remain hidden. It’s angst, it’s lack of communication and trust. The very things that are the very foundation, for a great relationship to thrive can also be stumbling blocks. Jacob Chance has written you a story, well worth your time to read.
Bonus Impressions: CANVAS Cover
Be still my artist’s heART… I can honestly say that it’s rarely a cover that draws me in. I’m all about the story synopsis. Only 2 covers that I can recall have completely and utterly captivated my attention. Jacob – congratulations to your designer – this cover not only fascinates the artist within. It is a vibrant use of the teal / blue colour palette. If this was an a real life canvas, you would feel that texture, dripping globules of rich heavy paint against a background of watery shades of dark and light. Then the model’s beautiful submissive pose. GORGEOUSNESS!
Totally worth using my remaining Kindle battery to read (because I am still waiting for my lights to be turned back on after hurricane “Irma”). Josh and Elle definitely had a bumpy road before everything worked out for them. Josh is so sweet and so perfect. Its hard to believe he is only a book character. Jacob Chance has raised the bar (again) with his writing and I wish I could give this book way more than 5 stars.
An intense, sexy read, I must say Canvas is a greatly penned work of art. While I wasn’t much into Elle’s character in the beginning, I did slowly warm up to her. As far as Joshua, he was perfection and I loved the inspiration of the artwork and the choice of cover for this book.
I LOVED everything about Canvas
Jacob Chance has a knack of writing with such emotion, it is both beautiful and a heartfelt read.
Canvas follows the story of both Elle & Josh who you meet in Quake and Quiver. These 2 characters bring the angst and a whole lot of Sexual
Chemistry. Josh is the perfect man, Caring, Sexy and an Alpha where it counts. He just needs to make Elle see that he’s worth the risk.
I love Elle’s vulnerability, and I love that later we find out why she feels the way she feels. I just wanted to keep reading about these two, I didn’t want Canvas to end. The detail, the emotion that went into Canvas is fantastic, I love a book written in Dual perspective and Jacob you nailed both of them. I had so many favourite parts throughout this book and I had a a real punch to the heart at one point when I felt for Elle but I’m not giving anything away you will have to read it and see for yourself.
Thoroughly recommend Canvas, this book will give you all the feels.
This book is absolutely fantastic. Elle and Josh are wonderful. The story of these two is just wow. I love the the characters. There isn’t drama with them. I really like that. The flow of this book is done wonderfully. I absolutely recommend this book.
Reviewed on behalf of Reading Through Her Eyes blog.
This book is a standalone however, you do see characters from previous books (Quake, Quiver, Delve, Tied and Delude) as supporting characters. In this book we get to see more of Josh and Elle, who have a love-hate relationship. Elle who is always full of Snark, Josh is an Alpha when he needs to be and where it counts. Joshua Dawson makes you fall in love with him, you just can’t help it.
Overall Thoughts: This book has exceeded my expectations and Jacob Chance has blown his previous work out of the water with this one. It is well worth the waiting and the teasing of this one! Mr. Chance knows how to write sexual tension better than anyone else and his books are filled with them, this book is no different. It’s written in a way to keep you turning the page to keep reading with the right amount of sexiness, sweetness and suspenseful. If I could give it more than a 5 star rating I would, and I highly recommend this book!
