Combining southern warmth with unabashed emotion and side-splitting hilarity, Fannie Flagg takes readers back to Elmwood Springs, Missouri, where the most unlikely and surprising experiences of a high-spirited octogenarian inspire a town to ponder the age-old question: Why are we here?Life is the strangest thing. One minute, Mrs. Elner Shimfissle is up in her tree, picking figs, and the next … the next thing she knows, she is off on an adventure she never dreamed of, running into people she never in a million years expected to meet. Meanwhile, back home, Elner’s nervous, high-strung niece Norma faints and winds up in bed with a cold rag on her head; Elner’s neighbor Verbena rushes immediately to the Bible; her truck driver friend, Luther Griggs, runs his eighteen-wheeler into a ditch–and the entire town is thrown for a loop and left wondering, “What is life all about, anyway?” Except for Tot Whooten, who owns Tot’s Tell It Like It Is Beauty Shop. Her main concern is that the end of the world might come before she can collect her social security.
In this comedy-mystery, those near and dear to Elner discover something wonderful: Heaven is actually right here, right now, with people you love, neighbors you help, friendships you keep. Can’t Wait to Get to Heaven is proof once more that Fannie Flagg “was put on this earth to write” (Southern Living), spinning tales as sweet and refreshing as iced tea on a summer day, with a little extra kick thrown in.

I love Fannie Flagg. She captures small town Southern life with humor and feeling!
This is an everyday life read. I would read this again. The Characters are engaging
Love Fannie Flagg! Not a lot of action but good people stories. There is wisdom in this one if you listen.
Absolutely loved it!!!
Very sentimental.
Not up to Fanny Flags usual witty storytelling. Couldn’t finish so it.
Her books are always fun to read
Predictable.
Fannie Flagg at her best. Wonder ful characters they pull you into their lives. A book I stayed up all night reading. Could not put it down
Really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of her works.
I loved this book. I have been telling friends about it and recommend as a great read. It’s a feel good story and you just love the characters
I loved it! If you don’t like down home salt of the earth characters, avoid this book and it’s simple humor. Otherwise, it is a must read!
A wonderful look at contrasting human traits…people who make the most of their lives right to the end (whenever that is) and what others learn from that triumph.
Didn’t read it all. Deleted it from my Reader
Flagg’s characters continue to be well developed and realistic, with a twist. Not always like us, but likable and charming. They are people I would love to know. The spiritual aspect of this story may not resonate with all readers, but it is pleasant to consider. I hope it’s accurate.
I devour any book Fannie Flagg writes. She is laugh out loud funny and her characters are wonderful, warm, quirky and fun to read about. By the time the book is finished, I am sad that it has to end. And I can’t wait to read the next one.
Fannie Flagg always impresses with a wonderful collection of characters. Very uplifting!
Cute but slow
A fun and heart warming book, full of chuckles and outright laughs!
