Nobody does emotional, heartwarming small-town romance like Melinda Curtis. This is a wonderful tonic of a book.
“Can’t Hurry Love” by Melinda Curtis is book one of her Sunshine Valley series.
Recently widowed, Lola Williams is reeling from a discovery about her late husband. She’s on a mission to find out the truth.
Sheriff Drew Taylor, having been hurt by love himself, is doing his best raising his daughter and now feels the need to lookout for Lola as well.
Neither are ready for the attraction they have for the other.
Add in the matchmaking Widows Club and you have a story that will make you laugh one minute then tug at your heart the next.
Ms. Curtis’s tagline (Laugh a little. Cry a little. Sigh a little.) is a perfect description for this book. It’s no wonder she is an auto-buy author for me.
Book 1 of The Sunshine Valley series. I love this story. It’s easy to read and funny. If you want a book to relax and take your mind off of the world events, this is it. I laughed, it’s a page turner. Great characters, kids, cheating husband’s, runaway mother’s, a match making widows group, and blow up dolls. What’s not to like? Thanks Melinda Curtis for another awesome read.
This one kind of blew me away with all the revelations. I can’t imagine the feelings going through me with what Lola found. Drew, the gruff, tough sheriff, knowing what Lola’s deceased husband had done, didn’t want her hurt any more than she was.
When you live in a small town you get what the town thinks is best for you, especially when it involves the widow’s club. And that’s a whole other weird lol.
This was a cute small town romance. A lot going on, touching on all the emotions. I do wish it would’ve saved some of the events for another time, and had a bit more alone time with the actual romance. Still a good read that made me laugh or frustrated me lol
A happily ever after thank goodness. This one will push your buttons!
I received an ARC thru Net Galley and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion
This is the perfect mix of loss, happiness, secrets, finding what really makes you happy and a group of great busybodies called the Widows Club. I totally get where Lola is coming from especially with all the secrets that start to come out after she decides to find out who her husband had been with, although she does get herself into some awkward situations that make you want to laugh and cry.
Drew is all about order, order in his home, order at work and order in his head but once Lola is thrown in the mix he starts to reevaluate things in his life and has to deal with her need to find to the truth about Randy as well as his ex trying to get custody of his daughter.
Definitely get comfy for this read as it has it all and will have you turning the page to see what happens not only with Lola and drew but also some of those within the Widows Club! I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!!!
This is a well written book that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. It is a sweet small town romance that is full of emotions. It will make you laugh out loud in spots. This book was an absolute joy to read. Thank you Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Lighthearted and Fun.
Lola is devastated to realise a year after her husband died that he was cheating on her. Her quest to find out the truth causes ruckus in town and lands her in hot water with the sheriff. Secrets and betrayals, humour and friendships. An enjoyable and recommended clean read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I am excited this is a series, I say that because the town of Sunshine it full of some really fun characters and I can’t wait to see where the author goes next. My two favorite characters would have to be Lola and Becky, Becky was a pistol she was so cute, sometimes you never knew what was going to come out of her mouth. I like Lola because no matter what she was a fighter and super independent she also had a vulnerability to her that made her feel like she could be your best friend, which made it feel like you were catching up instead of reading about fictional characters. I liked the judge too and his punishments oh my if we all had a judge like this in our towns. I wish that one thing that happened towards the end would have happened a little sooner, but I understand the book had to play out the way it did for a reason. Overall this book was fun read and it was a good clean read. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.”
I adore this small town of Sunshine, Colorado! The author has made me want to live there! She has created a town of fun, sometime quirky characters but yet they certainly care about each other. As with many small towns, sometimes they care too much and are in each other’s business a little more than is comfortable! Although there is two main characters, lovely Lola and Sheriff Drew, there is also ongoing focus on a couple other stories so all these characters are interwoven in the fabric of Sunshine life! Lola is a transplant to Sunshine from New York City when she married her husband, Randy and now she’s a widow but in cleaning out his belongings, she found he had a secret life and she’s overcome with the need to find out all she can about this life….to the point that it disrupts the town! Sheriff Drew tries to get her to stop because he feels that it isn’t healthy but that poor man has SO many people who depends on him to do things, it’s a wonder he’s even sane! I can’t believe how much that man is burdened! Yikes! However, he’s drawn to Lola and yet he can’t be because he needs a nice, quiet girl because he’s fighting for custody of this daughter! There is SO much funny stuff and yet a lot of tender happenings in the book too. A winner in my book! Can’t wait to read more in the series!
Oh, my gosh, this book is so funny. As I read it I kept thinking, I have to up my game when it comes to humor. Melinda is an accomplished author and you can’t go wrong with a book by her.
Lola has gone a little over the top, but after learning what he has about her late husband, who can blame her? Not Sheriff Drew, even if it does make his life harder. A fun, romantic romp with plenty of laughs, it will leave you smiling.
Great characters! This first book in the series makes you want to read more to see when the others find true love and with whom. I hope some of the secondary characters like Pris, Iggy, etc. find love.
This story was full of fun, lighthearted banter between a fish out of water and a hometown hero. I loved Lola’s perseverance in finding out the unknown actions of her late husband. She never gave up. Drew was a wonderful father and sheriff and I’m happy with the way things ended up with his daughter and her mama. This was a very good start to a new series!!!
This grabbed me at the beginning and hung on all the way through. Loved the characters. They are so much fun. Especially the Widow Club ladies. Becky is so much fun with her quirky sense of fashion. Drew is trying to keep everyone in town going and then he hears from his ex. Now she wants to come home and now she wants to be a mom. His little girl never knew her mom. As if he doesn’t have enough drama with his mom and sisters, then Lola starts burning underwear in her front yard and she has blow up dolls in her front window. All Lola wants to do if find out who her dead husband’s mistress was. She is willing to do just about anything to find out. Will she be happy when she has the answer? Maybe, maybe not.
Can’t Hurry Love by Melinda Curtis is the first book I have read by this author it won’t be the last. This was a quick fun read. I read it in one sitting. Ms. Curtis wrote a wonderful story which drew me right in and did not let me go until I turned the last page. The story was well written the characters well developed and likable. This book had ma laughing and crying. I really enjoyed this first in a series and am looking forward to see what she has in store for us next!
This book was light but it definitely took some time to get into. I liked Lola and Drew but for me, there were too many characters and I think that’s what made it so hard to get in to.
This was my first book by this author and while I wouldn’t rush to read the next book in this series, I would read more.
I thoroughly enjoyed Drew and Lola’s story along with the quirky town residents Curtis created in make-believe Sunshine, Colorado. Lola came across as compassionate, lovable, scarred, creative and just what Drew needed. I loved Drew’s daughter Becky. I am looking forward to the next book in this new series.
Sweet romance with a size of humor! With the first book in her new Sunshine Valley series Melinda Curtis takes her reader deep into the heart of small town living in CAN’T HURRY LOVE. Everybody knows your business and you can’t hide from your mistakes, but you also have a built in support system when things go wrong. This cast of characters were a bit quirky, and the story line drug a bit in parts, but overall I enjoyed Sunshine, Colorado and plan to make a return visit!
Lola Williams is easy to sympathize with. She finds herself living a small town life after giving up her big city dreams to marry a man who left her a widow within a year’s time. She’s an interesting character and we can relate to her need to find answers about her husband’s secrets before she moves on.
Drew Taylor is easy to like. He’s a single dad trying to do right by his daughter at the same time he keeps peace in Sunshine as the sheriff, but he isn’t sure what to do about all of the drama floating around lately having to do with Lola. He’s finding it easier to keep her in his sights than find out what she’s up to after the fact … of course that might have to do with the fact that he sort of fancies her.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a small town sweet romance. The drama is high, and the kindness of the townsfolk is high.
Sweetly thrilling, sexy, fun and emotional romantic journey filled with small-town goodness, engaging charters, witty dialog, heart racing twists and undeniable passion. Really enjoyed this exciting and heartwarming journey!
Lola Williams moved to Sunshine Valley after she married Randy. She gave up her dreams and her life in NYC. She came here to start her family. Her dreams ended when her husband died in a car accident. What she didn’t expect was to find that Randy had cheated on her. Now she’s broken and lost. She needs to know who his lover was so that she can start living again. Lola is an amazing character. She managed to both break my heart and make me howl with laughter. Randy’s blow up dolls were an example. Lola and Sheriff Drew light up the page with their chemistry. He fights his attraction. He doesn’t want or need this craziness. After all he’s raising a precocious 6 year old and has his hands full with his mother and sisters but he can’t stay away. Lola is trouble with a capital T. Add his crazy ex-wife and Rosie, his sister’s pet pig and Drew is losing his mind. Can’t Hurry Love is a wonderful feel good romance that I couldn’t put down. The characters, the dialogue and the heartbreak combined with a sizzling romance were amazing. Thank you Melinda Curtis for taking me to Sunshine Valley and a HEA. I needed that!
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
