Angry, black-clad, skinny little punk chick. That’s the face I show the world.Until Finn Gallagher takes one look at me and shreds my mask to pieces.
The first time I meet him, Finn straps me to his chest and jumps out of a plane. My heart is going to explode. Is it the adrenaline, or the fact that he’s all man, all muscle, and he looks at me like he wants to eat me?
Oh—and he happens to be my … wants to eat me?
Oh—and he happens to be my brother’s best friend.
Also known as off-limits. Forbidden. No-go.
Irresistible. Brooding. Beautifully broken adrenaline junkie.
Finn doesn’t even want me. He says so himself.
Looks me right in the face and shakes his head: No thanks. Not my type.
But his eyes say something different.
His lips don’t agree, either.
His hands? Don’t even get me started.
He can pretend all he wants, but I see right through him.
Life is short.
I say we self-combust and break a few bed frames along the way.
What could possibly go wrong?

Opposites attract creates balance.
An adrenaline junkie and a cancer survivor. Finn is always looking for the next thrill and Esme is ready yet apprehensive to step out into the world to finally start living life.
These two polar opposites meet in the middle and each give each other new meanings to loving life.
Esme has survived cancer but hasn’t been living. Her mother is very overprotective and Esme doesn’t hesitate to accept when her brother, Kit, invites her to live with him and work for the skydiving company he co-owns with his best friend, Finn. When Esme and Finn meet, they have an immediate and intense attraction. Finn fights this attraction since he doesn’t feel like he’s good enough for his best friend’s sister and doesn’t want to destroy his friendship with Kit. Esme puts on a brave front but she is struggling to break out of her safe zone and feels alive when she’s with Finn. This is a heartwarming story of two people that overcome their fears to find the missing piece of themselves in each other.
This is the first Lilian Monroe book I have read. I must say, I like her writing style, she reels you in, keeps you engaged from start to finish. This is a best friend’s little sister romance and Monroe really portrays the instant attraction, denial, and secrecy that tends to come from these relationships. I instantly like the main characters Finn and Esme. He is a sexy, carefree adrenaline junkie. She is a strong sassy woman, who’s has spent her life surviving, but not living life to the its fullest. In Finn, she finds her opposite who challenges her to find herself. In Esme, he finds someone who fills the chasm that his daredevil ways no longer can. Their chemistry is tangible, you fell every tug, every push and pull as they dance around each other until they finally succumb. Monroe also intertwines some great secondary characters into the story. This is a smashing good read. Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
HEARTBREAKING, SEXY, TOUCHING, ROMANTIC WITH TWO SOULS INTERTWINED
WOWZA, I think this is one of Lilian’s best books yet!! I absolutely couldn’t put this book down. This story just grabs you from the very beginning and keeps you so enthralled!
Esme is a tiny and somewhat fragile woman who is trying to finally live life since her fight with cancer for the last 6 years. She has decided to go live with her brother for the summer to work at his business to make some money and get away from home for the first time in her early adult life. What she doesn’t count on is in the very first five minutes of walking into her new work is to meet her brother’s business partner and having a connection and desire she thought she would never find.
As for Finn, the business partner, he can’t believe that just meeting his best friends sister would turn his world upside down, make his blood boil like lava and give him emotions he wasnt ready for.
These two come together in a tumultuous time in Esme’s recovery and her new life. Eventually neither of them can deny the feelings of connection and desire they feel but what about the relationships they have with Kit, Esme’s brother and Finn’s best friend/business partner? Will their newfound love be the end of things between them all?
I absolutely loved this story mostly because it felt real and was extremely well written. The sparks, lust and love that develop between Esme and Finn is an intense chemistry and connection that explodes off the pages and had me turning page by page ready for more!! I absolutely recommend any romance lover to read this book because it has so many emotions and feelings that you just can’t resist!
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
I loved this book. You are getting all the feels with this one, Happy, Sad, and even a little Mad. I love a good book that can pull at my emotions. It’s definitely steamy with a solid interesting storyline. I enjoyed watching Esme and Finn’s characters grow as the story progressed. You can read this book as a standalone. You won’t be lost if you haven’t read book one but the characters from book one are present in this story but no huge spoilers. If you haven’t read book one, I recommend it. It’s a good story too. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Esme is in town for the summer to stay with her half-brother Kit. She’s finally cancer free after battling lymphoma for the past six years. Her mother is clingy and overprotective and doesn’t believe that Esme is strong enough to go. Esme meets Finn when her brother takes her to the flight school, he works at to go skydiving. Esme and Finn feel the pull of attraction, but both fight it because of Kit. Esme has some self-esteem issues from her long battle with cancer and the lack of an adult social life because of it. She’s pretty much afraid of everything, not that I can blame her. Finn is a daredevil and adrenaline junkie. They really balance each other out. Can they work through everything to find happiness together?
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
WOW. This was such a beautiful and emotional book. Watching Finn & Esme figure out how to handle their attraction, their loyalties to Kit, and their own pasts. Esme…she was such an amazing character. I loved watching her grow and learn to love herself. This book had me all up in my feels and I loved every single moment!
“Can’t Have You” was my first read by Lilian Monroe and oh boy was it a good one. This book has so much going for it.
It’s a:
Forbidden Romance – Brother’s Best Friend
Esme is a survivor, after six years of battling cancer she is in remission and ready to live her best life.
Finn is an adrenaline junkie. After getting burnt by love, skydiving is his mistress and love and relationships are not on his radar. Meaningless sex not love is all he’s interested in.
When the lovely goth chic meets the sexy player the sparks fly. They are on fire. Esme hasn’t been interested in a man in forever so her attraction to Finn blows her mind. Finn has a type and it most certainly isn’t skinny, black clad, dark eye makeup, beanie wearing women but Esme owns real estate in his broken heart.
Watching them overcome all the obstacles standing in their way and find their happily ever after makes this a fantastic Five Star read and has me excited about readimg more by this talented author. TBR and Enjoy.
Could I love Lilian Monroe any more? NOPE. Love her writing and the characters in each of her books! Absolutely enjoyed Finn and Esme And their story in this book. Kick ass cancer survivor Esme whose learning to be brave and LIVE life out from underneath her over protective Mom’s shadow meets adrenaline Junkie Finn who can’t seem able to please his father and the fireworks explode. From their magnetic draw to each other and the way they try to stay apart for her half-brothers sake (also his best friend and business partner) to the intensity between them when they finally come together… WHOA -get the hose! Not only do I love Lilian Monroes stories and how the characters are so endearing, I categorically love that her characters work so hard to get back to each other… it makes the HEA so much sweeter. I want to see what happens with Kit. I recommend this book and any of Lilian Monroes books highly.
