Justin Blackwood can’t remember a time when he believed in the magic of anything, least of all love. A cynical businessman, who grew up in a broken home, he guards his heart with every breath he takes. His job has taken him all over the world and roots are the last thing he wants…until he meets a beautiful innkeeper in Whisper Lake.
Warm-hearted, free-spirited Lizzie Cole wants it all—the … wants it all—the dream job of running her own inn and a man who wants to settle down. Despite a previous romantic setback, she still believes in happily ever after and her perfect soulmate. She just has to find him. While the dark-haired man with the shockingly blue eyes makes her heart beat faster, Justin Blackwood is the last man who should leave her breathless. He’s her complete opposite and they don’t want the same things.
But when a lunar eclipse throws Whisper Lake into darkness, Lizzie and Justin find themselves struggling to fight the moonlight and a love that could change their lives—if they’re willing to take the risk.

Absolutely loved this book. Lizzie and Justin’s story about how opposites attract will draw you in. I didn’t have long periods of tile to read it but if I did I would not have been able to put it down. A highly recommended read!
Emotional, unpredictable, irresistible, unforgettable. Freethy ties the heart in knots with Can’t Fight the Moonlight. Justin and Lizzie are as haunting as the town they call home. Different yet the same, life is about to teach two lost souls, how unpredictable love can be. Sexy takes a simplistic dive into a complicated journey and provides the perfect getaway for a heart.
Justin is very successful in his business and travels alot. He is close to his grandparents but there’s no contact with his parents. Overall he is pretty content and happy with his life. He isn’t looking for any relationship or long term commitment. Lizzie is trying to make a go of her business but keeps running into problems with money and maintenance at her Inn. She’s not had a lot of luck in the love department but she would like to have a relationship with the right guy. She’s seen her siblings and friends find happiness and she wants that for herself but not at the expense of her business. She’s very close to her family and they are not only supportive of each other, they’ve invested in her dream to help make it come true. When a family obligation sends Justin to Lizzie’s Inn, he’s forced to slow down and really look around. He finds he enjoys the town and people as well as having an attraction to Lizzie. They may just be perfect for each other! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
CAN’T FIGHT THE MOONLIGHT.
…..Barbara Freethy
Justice world was his job and the computer and connections around the world has been his life for ten years. A call of grandparents renewing their vows, he had to come, she wouldn’t take a no answer.. Almost there when a slow moving truck was ahead, a mishap happened, and now his car was splattered with lemon juice, lemons and his opened laptop was now crushed.
Phone, computer and notes he needed within a half hour, and none now.
Meeting Leslie Cole the owner of the Inn where grandparents staying, and now were not coming in till tomorrow, another bust. She thinks it’s a vacation and no, this was an obligation. Leslie sees the bright side of things, and he is mr gloom if it didn’t pertain to his work. She challenges him to being on vacation. What I liked about the author’s book is you fit right in, as though invited and you are watching this all unfolds. His grandmother was always telling him to stop and smell the roses. Will he finally be able to. The characters are rich in description, and their lives. Interesting of how things. change as we read their story.
Given ARC. for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
I love visiting Whisper Lake, a small town populated with friendly, warm hearted people.
Lizzie owns the Firefly inn. She has a sunny, positive attitude and a determination to succeed in anything she tries to do.
Justin is a very successful businessman. Definitely a workaholic. His job is his life. Raised in a troubled home, he is somewhat cynical. He doesn’t let anything get in the way of his work…except his grandparents’ wedding vow renewal. On his way to Whisper Lake for the ceremony, he crashes his rental car into a fence while trying to avoid rear ending Lizzie’s truck. This doesn’t improve his mood! Always positive, Lizzie vows to turn Justin’s “obligation” to his grandparents into a relaxing, enjoyable vacation.
Lizzie and Justin couldn’t be more opposite, but their attraction can’t be denied.
I enjoyed visiting Whisper Lake again. It feels like coming home. I recommend Can’t Fight the Moonlight to anyone who enjoys second chance romance novels and happy endings.
Can’t Fight the Moonlight is Book 3 in the Whisper Lake Series. It can be read as a stand alone, but you won’t want to miss the other books in this series.
Third book in this series and as always an excellent read. This installment focuses on Lizzie and Justin, there is drama, angst, romance all the feels in a Harlequin style HEA. Grab a glass of wine, find a quiet spot and enjoy!
I want to visit the town of Whisper Lake and become friends with all these wonderful characters. Lizzie and Justin are as different as night and day in some respect; however, they complement each other in the best ways. The attraction and connection between them is instant and progresses naturally and easily. I adore them as a couple and hope to see more of them in future books. Justin has closed his heart due to emotional baggage caused by his family. Will Lizzie be able to help him heal and open his heart to love? You’ll have to read this heartwarming, sweet and emotional story to find out.
I loved catching up with all the other characters as they are part of Whisper Lake. And I was excited to finally get the legend behind the name of Whisper Lake. I only wish that it hadn’t wrapped up so quickly, felt a little rushed to me. But it is still a terrific story and worth reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
This is a great return to Whisper Lake (or makes a great first trip to those new to this series). This is the story of Lizzie and Justin. Both are following their career dreams, both are trying to prove themselves worthy (mostly to themselves), and both harbor secrets that they are afraid to share. Because of that, both have created walls around their hearts and avoid seeking out love. But the chemistry and attraction between them are real, and with the magic of Whisper Lake, good friends, and family, they both wonder if maybe it isn’t worth taking a chance. There is plenty of emotion, a few laughs, a few tears, and a heartwarming story that make this a must-read. I always look forward to my next read from Barbara Freethy and this one does not disappoint!
This was such a beautiful story between Lizzie, the owner of The Firefly Inn at Whisper Lake, and Justin, the owner of a robotics company. Justin has focused all his time and energy on his company, not taking time to enjoy life at all. And that’s just the way he likes it. Until he arrives in Whisper Lake to attend a vow renewal for his grandparents. A slight accident has Justin learning how to slow down and enjoy life. Of course, the sweet, optimistic Inn owner may have something to do with that!
Barbara Freethy has such a wonderful way with words. She transports you to a world filled with true love and lasting friendships. As you read you can’t help but feel like you’re a part of it. The characters in her stories all have such vibrant personalities that you really feel like you know them. This story truly touched a place in my heart. I found myself rooting for Lizzie and Justin! I can’t wait for the next installment in the Whisper Lake series! While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.
This is such a good book!
Justin, is on his way the Whisper Lake,

for the past two years. It something
she has always dreamed of doing.
I truly enjoyed reading it!
It’s a engaging & moving story.
Everything you want in a true romance.
Justin Lizzie, steal your heart
from the very first pages to the last.
Must Read Story!!
Barbara Freethy’s new book “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” is a lovely romantic story about Justin, a workaholic and Lizzie, the inn keeper he meets when he arrives to attend his grandparents’ marriage renewal ceremony in Whisper Lake. A well written and touching story, you can never go wrong with a book by Ms. Freethy. I loved this one a lot and especially enjoyed reading about the people I had already met in the Whisper Lake series. Highly recommend this one who likes books that bring out warm feelings and happy tears.
Another great read in this series. Lots of drama, romance and a feel good story in the end. It is about real life. Opposites attract
