AlexanderBeing with Tavin is like eating those candies that start out sweet and then turn so sour, your eyes water. When she’s happy, her radiance is stunning, but her glow is dimmed by her dark secrets. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on her, sucking on that lollipop, that there was something unique about her. I was right in more ways than one, and while I don’t know the extent of suffering … suffering that her life entails, I’ll do whatever I need to, to convince her she can trust me. I just need to hang on to her long enough to do that.TavinWhen he wraps his arms around me, and his warmth makes me feel safe, it’s easy to pretend that this is real. I knew going out with him was a bad idea, I just never imagined it would go this far. It was only supposed to be one night. One night to feel like a normal girl. I didn’t plan for this and now, every day that passes puts us deeper in danger. All I can do is make the most of every moment with him, so when the time comes for this to end, then at least we’ll be left with beautiful memories. Trigger Warning:This novel contains drug use, explicit sexual content, violence, and sensitive subject matter which may be triggering for some readers.

This book is nothing sweet like it’s cover and everything like its title. Gah, this story had me on the edge of my seat.. unsettled with so much trepidation. These characters will gut your heart out over and over again, yet I couldn’t seem to put the book down. You’ll never be the same after reading this dark and beautiful story. So tread lightly.
Tavin is a beautiful, emotional wreck with a penchant for pain. At times, I felt sympathetic and others, I just wanted her to open her eyes to the bigger picture. This woman had Alexander wrapped around her pinky at first sight.
Alexander is your gorgeously, single rich business owner whose interest is peaked when a short, cute brunette accidentally knocks on his office door. Seeing their relationship build even through learning of Tavin’s secrets, was unlike any story I have ever read. Lex’ complete devotion to Tavin makes him so lovable.
Candy Coated Chaos is Charity B’s debut novel, and unlike many debuts I have read, this book did not disappoint. I fell in love with Charity’s writing and she is an amazing storyteller. I had no doubts about buying up this trilogy in whole before reading them.
**I have a strong love for dark romance and have very few triggers. So beware and don’t read a book that isn’t fit for you. I hate seeing an author’s rating knocked down because a reader couldn’t stomach the story. If you think you can handle it, then read this story**
Candy Coated Choas is book 1 in Sweet Treats series and what an amazing start to a series it was!
This isn’t my first time reading this book or series, the first time around, I had no idea about goodreads, and I was literally gobsmacked with this plot, I LOVED IT.. but it left me reeling for so long, and then I thought a re-read would be a good idea, rather than reviewing it from the last time I read it, and I’m so glad I chose to re-read. Just like the first time, I am still left gobsmacked and in complete awe at Charity on how well she delievers this first book. It felt as thought I was reading it for the first time again.
Charity B. is a master of her craft. She has the ability to throw you into an emotional, gut wrenching, twisted, dark and hot plot that will have you sitting there in complete shock, speechless, your brain reeling and have you questioning your own morals, this book did just that for me, even the second time around! Not only was it hot as hell, but it had many many twists and turns, DARK ONES and everyone who knows me, knows how much I love my dark, twisted, kinky romances. It held my attention from start to finish and when you are finished, you are left wanting more, craving more and I sure as hell am!

Mind blown by this new author! She knocked it right out of the park with her first novel! Well done!
Tavin and Alexander are a truly interesting pair. Truly angsty, dark and twisted, with a touch of sweet innocence to keep you from falling down the tail end of depression with where this story takes you. I am sure it will only get more real and terrifying with the next installment. I hate to be one of those people, but I enjoy reading these dark books that show you the truly awful things humans are capable of, and the love that some people are lucky enough to find, even if they don’t feel like they deserve it, or are worthy.
There are parts of this story you must be prepared for if you really don’t like dark books. Drugs, self harm and human depravity are just a few I can think of that might trigger some people.
If you truly don’t mind it then you don’t want to miss this debut, it was truly beautiful.
The darkness is not everything, even if you still feel it in the background. You never really forget that feeling, even when your life is just a little bit better.
I’m on to the next one!
Holy Mother of Madness!! Let me tell you I was not expecting this type of story looking at the outside of this book. As the saying goes, you cannot judge a book by it’s cover! It’s fabulously warped and deceiving and I revelled in the dark and troubled land of Tavin and Alexander.
There is something about Tavin that Charity B dangles not quite within the grasp of the reader, keeping you hooked on an edge clambering for the knowledge to know what that secret is. Slowly she feeds you tidbits, enough to satisfy your craving, but not quite revealing the whole truth to who she is. It’s infuriating and intriguing at all once.
Alexander falls for Tavin, and he is in the dark just as much as the reader. His patience is tried, and he keeps on getting up blow after blow of shocking truths. How he is able to overlook some of her secrets is beyond me. Until finally she does something that he cannot forgive.
C.C.C. ends on a bit of a cliffy, but nothing too strenuous that you want to stab the author or locate and demand her to give you the rest of the story now. For a debut novel CB has produced a favorable and admirable read and I cannot wait to read the second installment of this delectable and appetizing story!
The following review is of the ARC which was given to me by the author for free in exchange for my honest review.
I almost declined the offer for an ARC due to being busy – boy would I have missed out! Like many others have stated in their reviews, it’s astounding how well written this book is and how surprising it is that this is Ms. Bailey’s first published work. CANDY COATED CHAOS is more eloquent and better edited than many of the more famous authors I’ve read lately! When I first received this book, I decided to check out the first few pages. Five hours later I couldn’t to put it down despite having other priorities! The characters are extremely well developed and hold secrets that shocked the he|| out of me! The storyline is what’s most impressive, innovative unlike anything I’ve ever read; CCC is far from your typical BDSM romance or tale of drug addiction! My only complaint about this book is that it ends with a cliffhanger and now I have to wait find out what happens to these captivating characters! Bravo and congratulations to Charity Bailey for writing such an amazing book!!!
Never judge a book by its cover could not be more true than for this book. I knew it was a dark read before starting but I certainly thought it might be lighter than it is after seeing the cover. There is nothing fluffy and light about the book, it is a purely dark and twisted story. The topics covered are difficult to read about at times and there is clearly the suggestion of some sinister shadowy figure pulling strings behind the scenes.
The characters are fantastic and their are different relationship dynamics throughout, from romantic to weirdly co-dependent. I love the friendship between Sasha and Tavin. They have things in common but the friendship is more real than just we have similar issues and it’s quite sweet to see how that develops. There both seem like characters that have that missing from their world so it’s lovely to see that develop.
I really like Tavin, she’s a mess but her childlike joy is refreshing and compelling. There are some wonderfully free and exuberant moments, like at the carnival. There’s also a lot of hidden emotion and trouble in her world and I’m intrigued as to how that plays out in the rest of the series. Alexander is an interesting character, he’s a bit of a know it all, who knows very little. His rich guy world is rocked by a woman and he’s drawn into a darker world he never even dreamed existed.
There are some unexpected twists in the story. You’re never quite sure what will happen which leaves the reader on edge. There are lots of unexplored issues that are hinted at and suggested throughout the book, which grip the readers attention and have certainly made me keen to read more. The book ends at a point where it’s not a cliffhanger but the reader really wants to know more. I’m already drawn into the next book in the series.
Amazing start to this series. Highly recommended
Couldn’t put it down. Five star book.
Loved reading this book. Kept me pulled into it
Alexander and Tavin brought out so many different emotions. I started out wanting to dislike Alexander until it became apparent that his playboy ways were masking and helping him deal with his pain. Tavin is intriguing and whimsical and I desperately want to know more about her dark past.
While the storyline does have its predictable moments (A junkie is never going to get clean just because somebody tells them to) there were also times when it surprised me and others when I was completely taken by the tragic beauty of it all.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Filled with shocking truths and secrets, this book certainly takes you on a dark and instense rollercoaster ride. Well written with complex characters. Ends with a doozy of a cliffhanger.
Do you remember that nursery rhyme
What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice, And all that’s nice; That’s what little girls are made of. Well take that and throw it out the window before you read Candy Coated Chaos by Charity B. and meet Tavin.
This story is wonderfully dark and Candy Coated Chaos is only the beginning of Alexander and Tavin’s story. You would think a book with Candy in the title that you are in for something sweet but think again. There is pain and tragedy that Charity hasn’t revealed and I’m dying to know Tavin and Toben’s back story.
Reading Candy Coated Chaos is like sucking on a big jawbreaker. Every layer is delicious and I can’t wait to get to the center and see where Charity takes Alex and Tavin next.
When I read a new or debut author – I like going in blind – no reading the reviews or comments -it allows me an untainted slate (so to say) as I read –
This debut author erupted into the dark romance genre with a bang –
Candy Coated Chaos is just that – A little Sweet, A little Dark – and Utterly Chaotic
This is a dark tale of how a soul filled with purity and innocence has been twisted and skewed to meet the needs of the depraved –
How an evil so tainted has darkened the definition of love – twisting and molding it into a tool for control and debasement
Tavin is everything I love in a lead female character – that girl is innocence and chaos wrapped up in one sweet little package
Alex is one of those alpha leads that you love to hate or hate to love depending on the moment
From the cover and the title -I thought this was a sweet rom-com love story – Don’t get me wrong it is a little bit of that -but it is soooo much more–
Strong character development – A plot line that flows smoothly and is easy to follow – a few grey areas that each reader will interpret from their own experiences – Antagonist that you just loathe – some hidden easter eggs in the story that definitely lead me to believe there are some OMG and OH HECK NO moments to come – Some twists and turns-
In other words, you get the whole package with CCC
This is a dark love story – Does it have an HEA? Not yet – as we are currently hanging on the edge awaiting book 2
The debut novel of Charity B and it is an impressive first book. The title and the cover might suggest a sweet rom com book, but it is not. Tavin does have a sweet tooth and there are definitely very sweet moments, but the more we find out about Tavin and her life to more depraved the story gets.
Tavin never had a normal childhood and has been exposed to many horrible things. We get glimpse of her life throughout the book, but the full story is yet to be told. But with Alex she gets a chance at a normal life and her childlike innocence we see when she experience a fair or goes for a boat trip are wonderful to see. She is not beaten down, there is still a light inside of her.
Alex is taken by Tavin from the first moment he lays eyes on her and she stirs up feelings and make him do things he never experiences before.
It is a very emotional book and I think it will get darker in the next two books when Tavin’s life catches up on her and Alex. I look forward to reading more.
I do have to admit that I started to skimming the sex scenes after a while. I could have done with a few less.
Tavin. Beautiful, talented, twisted little lady who was raised as a playtoy and thoroughly believes it. falls in love with the CEO who knows nothing of her world but has brought life back into her bones as she brings the colors back into his world. A fantasy that must inevitably end as her life is not something one can just walk away from
This was a slow build up but with a gripping plot due to everything being so detailed. Took me a while to finish but still kept my interest
Amazing characters, drama, and misc plots throughout the story. Realistic considering the imperfections and flaws of everyones personality. Intense, for sure.
This book left me wanting more and a bag of cotton candy! talk about a sweet tooth.
How do I tell you how much I liked this book without giving anything away. Well lets see…
From the start of the book you just get a little of this and a little of that and have to keep reading to put the pieces together. These are strong characters but each have their own weaknesses. There are ups and downs.
I will say I read the warning before signing up. I am just still floored by what I read. I didn’t expect that. I can’t say what that is. But I was shocked, intrigued, angry, upset, and I still don’t know if I am putting this into word correctly. A book that can make you feel something is well written and well I felt all right. When the end hits you want more. The story sucked me in right through the end.
All in all a really good, darker book I cannot wait to get more of and find out what is next for these characters.
“I still can’t believe I let myself loose it like that. She makes it all twisted because she likes it so damn much, and I like that she likes it.”
Candy Coated Chaos is a really well written debut novel. I absolutely loved it and ended up reading it in one sitting. I really couldn’t put it down.
Tavin is a broken and damaged character. My heart broke for her. When Alexander meets Tavin his life changes forever. He wants to help her so much. I’m not going to go into the storyline as you need to just jump into this and read. Heed the trigger warnings tho.
The cover and title is so deceiving. Yes there’s sweetness but there’s oh so much more.
I felt as if I was on a rollercoaster of emotions while reading this story.
After that ending I’m really looking forward to reading more from this author. Brilliant debut novel that I highly recommend.
