“OMG! Carr is over the top and giving us an easy “10” with her latest, Candidate for Murder!… Don’t just sit there thinking that this might be the book to try for Lauren Carr! I’m telling you right now it’s a must-read for daring, adventure, crime-busting, high-level government criminal elimination.” Reviewer: Glenda Bixler, Book Readers Heaven“OMG!!! The best Mac Faraday…yet. Lauren Carr is … Lauren Carr is a master storyteller who combines the humor of Janet Evanovich and the investigative skills of Patricia Cornwell. She is always at the top of my reading list.” Reviewer: Sherry Fundin, Fundinmental, As Eye See It
“It is an amusing look at politics and media today. Appropriate to see how the Deep Creek mayoral election relates to current events. Dissatisfaction with politicians on many levels often leaves us looking for an extreme change. It may leave you thoughtful. It may leave you writing Gnarly’s name in as your preferred candidate in the next election.” Reviewer: Merry Citarella, Jaquo.com
“Hilarious, mysterious and full of adventure, Gnarly, and his human friends will have you on the edge of your seat unable to put your book down. Candidate for Murder is well written, played out and a story that you have just never heard before. I enjoyed every moment reading this book!” Reviewer: Working Mommy Journal
“5-Stars! This is funny, full of true feelings people feel about politics at times. I am convinced I would vote for Gnarly.” Reviewer: Rhonda Laney, Readalot Book Reviews.
It’s election time in Spencer, Maryland, and the race for mayor is not a pretty one. In recent years, the small resort town has become divided between the local year-round residents who have enjoyed their rural way of life and the city dwellers moving into their mansions, taking over the town council, and proceeding to turn Deep Creek Lake into a closed gate community—complete with a host of regulations for everything from speed limits to clotheslines.
When the political parties force-feed two unsavory mayoral nominees on the town residents, Police Chief David O’Callaghan decides to make a statement—by nominating Gnarly, Mac Faraday’s German shepherd, to run as mayor of Spencer!
What starts out as a joke turns into a disaster when overnight Gnarly becomes the front-runner—at which point his political enemies take a page straight out of Politics 101. What do you do when you’re behind in a race? Dig up dirt on the front-runner, of course.
Seemingly, someone is not content to rest with simply embarrassing the front-runner by publicizing his dishonorable discharge from the United States Army but to throw in a murder for good measure.
With murder on the ballot, Mac Faraday and the gang—including old friends from past cases—dive in to clear Gnarly’s name, catch a killer, and save Spencer!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
I was so excited to be reading and reviewing another Mac Faraday mystery by Lauren Carr, and especially because I get a visit with Gnarly, Mac’s German Shepherd. I love this quirky canine and he is by far my favorite character in this series.
It’s election time in the town of Spencer and guess who is on the ballot? Yep, You got it, Gnarly! It started out as fun, but boy did it get nasty fast! Taking readers down a road of a fast paced, action packed suspense thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is so much going on here, so many wonderful characters to get to know, but it is also so much interesting fun to follow these characters in their quest to find a new mayor. I so much enjoyed the twist with the election, and I loved getting to dig deeper into Gnarly’s life. And we find some interesting things about the loveable and adorable German shepherd! Author Lauren Carr does a fabulous job writing this book, and weaving it all together for a great ending. These Mac Faraday stories with the wonderful Gnarly are growing on me fast. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

I love love love Lauren Carr’s writing. I was so excited when I had the chance to read her Candidate for Murder. This installment from her Mac Faraday Mystery series does not disappoint. Even though it is part of a series, I believe readers can get by reading it as a stand alone. Though, I would highly recommend to reading the previous books as they should not be missed. I enjoyed catching up with Mac and his hilarious pup Gnarly. Gnarly is by far my favorite character in this series. This is one of those books that I look for in a story: action, adventure, mystery, suspense, and lots and lots of laughs. The mystery was not one I could have predicted. I was left wondering as to who did it until near the end. I love the mix of quirkiness thrown in from time to time to break down the tension.
I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of Candidate for Murder. Once again C.J. McAllister does a wonderful job bringing this story and characters to life. The performance is superb.
I am giving Candidate for Murder a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who love a fun and entertaining cozy mystery that will make them giggle throughout. I am hoping to read more from the Mac Faraday Mystery series in the near future. I love this series.
I received Candidate for Murder from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
I’ve read several books in the Mac Faraday Mystery series and was so excited after reading the synopsis for this newest one.
Gnarly, Mac Faraday’s german shepherd and my favorite four-legged friend, is running for Mayor of Spencer. Most folks in town don’t care for either of the candidates running on the ballot. Sound familiar? They jump on board to vote Gnarly in. Of course, the other nominees aren’t taking this lying down, and they dig for the dirt. I don’t think they’ll find anything. After all, Gnarly is man’s best friend. Well, except for the thing about the disappearing food. His partner in crime, Storm, knows all about that, and she’s not talking.
What started as a lark snowballs, and the fun begins. Can you imagine Gnarly debating the other candidates? How about kissing babies and shaking hands? Gnarly is on the campaign fast track. I wonder if his four-legged companions will be allowed to vote.
In between all of the crazy political scheming, the gang is working a cold case. Secrets are uncovered and the town of Spencer might not survive the fallout.
I love that Lauren’s characters are all animal lovers and their pets go wherever they go. And they are just as individual in personality as the humans. It’s a load of laughs to see what they get into.
When an author can spin a good mystery and keep me in stitches at the same time, it’s all good. I loved this book and it’s now one of my favorites in the series.
