With the same wicked humor, buoyant charm, and optimism that have made her Shopaholic novels beloved international bestsellers, Sophie Kinsella delivers a hilarious new novel and an unforgettable new character. Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets: Secrets from her mother: I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom with Danny … bedroom with Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben-Hur.
Sammy the goldfish in my parents’ kitchen is not the same goldfish that Mum gave me to look after when she and Dad were in Egypt.
Secrets from her boyfriend:
I weigh one hundred and twenty-eight pounds. Not one eighteen, like Connor thinks.
I’ve always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.
From her colleagues:
When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day.) It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.
Secrets she wouldn’t share with anyone in the world:
My G-string is hurting me.
I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is.
Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger.
But come Monday morning, Emma’s office is abuzz about the arrival of Jack Harper, the company’s elusive CEO. Suddenly Emma is face-to-face with the stranger from
the plane, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her. Things couldn’t possibly get worse—Until they do.

a wonderful escape from life
Can never go wrong with Sophie Kinsella!
Hilarious! I couldn’t put it down for days. I wish this turned into a series, I fell in love with the characters.
Love Sophie Kinsella’s books
Relatable main character. You will empathize, laugh, and cringe with her. Cute plot and a fun, light read.
One of my most re-read books.
This is another favorite of mine. Sophie Kinsella had me crying laughing within minutes. I highly recommend this book!
This is one of my all-time favorite books and a re-read for me. Wonderful characters and laugh out loud funny!
Very enjoyable.
I loved Emma as the main character she is everything a normal girl is and I loved how real she seemed just like a normal person. That’s what I loved about this, Emma could have been any girl and I really could imagine her as a real person. Her secrets were hilarious, this plane ride that they were on when she started spilling all her secrets because she thought she was going to die. It was hilarious written I really did love this character and the story.
Not many strangers would have sat there listening to a crazy woman spill her secrets as she thought she was going to die but Jack did. I loved how their relationship started and how he was interested in getting to know her but also wanted her to keep the fact he was in Scotland alone. Although he was the boss of this big company not all the time could you tell because he would act like such a normal person with her, they were some of my favourite parts in this book.
Lissy and Jemima where Emma’s roommates and they were so crazily different from each other and that is all three girls. At times I questioned whether Jemima was a true friend because that girl had some crazy and whacked up ideas that obviously came from her mother and it was so crazy some ideas that she was suggesting. I really didn’t like her character very much. Lissy, I feel like for the most part always tried to have Emma’s best interests at heart rather than trying to push her ideals or push her into something she didn’t want to do, although she did participate in a little bit but soon stopped.
Her family I hated them except grandpa from the beginning the way she just let them walk all over her I was getting really mad, like how can you let your family do that? I got very annoyed and angry with them of how they treated Emma and how they made a joke of her just because she didn’t know where she was going with her career and they all seemed to just make that the but of their joke. The moment she stood up for herself I was like yas girl! It was like my highlight of this book! Along with others of course.
Connor was boring. I legit have nothing to say about him.
I loved how she stood up for herself by the end of this novel, and I loved that she was able to do that at the end of the novel.
Ditsy. Emma is ditsy. Ok I get she has some issues because of a cousin coming to live with them after losing her parents. Issues with the cousin and with her parents. Plus her “perfect” boyfriend really isn’t perfect for her. She just tries to make them perfect for each other.
Then it was like a switch flipped. She starts thinking more rationally, making decisions that aren’t ditsy and actually following up on them in a mature way. Her self talk is totally out of control.
I did have a tug of war with this book. Some, (ok a lot) was totally outrageous, some of it had me cringing and I even did some eye rolling. The thing was though when I wasn’t reading I thought about it and was looking forward to picking it back up. Maybe I’m ditsy. 🙂
This book is hilarious!!
One of the best comedic chick lit romances I have ever read.
Love, love, love. I have read it at least 6 times and it can still make me laugh.
So far, I’ve enjoyed all Sofia Kinsella’s book. It’s engaging and funny and romantic
Kinsella has a tendency to write the ditziest female leads and this didn’t miss the mark. I spend half the book laughing and the other half wondering “why”?
LOVED!! This book was so funny from the start. I laughed out loud so many times, I had to stop reading at work! I love all of the books by this author!
This was a fun, light-hearted read – perfect for the beach. I literally laughed out loud in parts.
I always enjoy this author.
I loved it!
