With the same wicked humor, buoyant charm, and optimism that have made her Shopaholic novels beloved international bestsellers, Sophie Kinsella delivers a hilarious new novel and an unforgettable new character. Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets: Secrets from her mother: I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom with Danny … bedroom with Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben-Hur.
Sammy the goldfish in my parents’ kitchen is not the same goldfish that Mum gave me to look after when she and Dad were in Egypt.
Secrets from her boyfriend:
I weigh one hundred and twenty-eight pounds. Not one eighteen, like Connor thinks.
I’ve always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.
From her colleagues:
When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day.) It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.
Secrets she wouldn’t share with anyone in the world:
My G-string is hurting me.
I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is.
Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger.
But come Monday morning, Emma’s office is abuzz about the arrival of Jack Harper, the company’s elusive CEO. Suddenly Emma is face-to-face with the stranger from
the plane, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her. Things couldn’t possibly get worse—Until they do.

Oh how I adore this book. It begins on a plane with dear Emma over sharing with the man beside her. Emma has lists, secrets, and a sense of humor that is laugh out loud funny. The first page had me hooked. Emma’s lovablity kept me smiling. And the man on the plane…well, we all need a bit of him as well.
This book completely took over my life. The different secrets kept you guessing but more importantly, it kept me entertained. It was a quick read and when I put it down, I was definitely not quite ready for it to be over. I’m sure I’ll be revisiting this book at some point.
I adore Sophie Kinsella books! This one especially…It’s witty, sweet… page-turner!
This is the book that inspired me to write my first novel… I go back and reread it every few years and I still find it just as goofily charming as I did the first time.
It’s been awhile since I’ve laughed this much over a book…loved this one!
There were a few times I wanted to wring Jack’s and Emma’s necks, but overall it was a funny, charming, satisfying romantic comedy…reminded me a bit of Bridget Jones.
In a moment of air flight panic, Emma blurts out ALL of her secrets to a complete stranger who then turns out to be the founder of the company she works for…hijinks ensue!
So funny!!
4+ Stars
After hearing that the movie based on this book is in pre-production, I wanted to get it read soon. This was definitely an enjoyable read with some true lol moments. As per typical Brit lit, the story doesn’t just focus on the impending romance, but also on various secondary characters and dynamics that surround the protagonist. In this case, it’s Emma and her friends, family, and co-workers. Not to mention, a high profile hero to her heroine. There may haven been a few romantic fiction clichés and some points where the story dragged a bit, but overall I had fun and was pleased with the cinematic ending.
In addition to reading the ebook, I also listened to a large portion on audio and was entertained by the exceptional narration.
Sophie Kinsella is the archetype of chick-lit authors: witty with a heroine who is authentic. Supporting characters are also well-drawn. The plot is somewhat predictable but nevertheless it’s fun to see how it all turns out. Having told all her embarrassing secrets to a fellow passenger on a plane that is having trouble, consequences ensue.
Emma is a great heroine – endearing, sweet, caring and effervescent. Her secrets are little quirky, embarrassing things but she spills them all to the man sitting beside her a plane during a very turbulent flight.
The book is both funny and poignant. The secondary characters have such variety – annoying coworkers, boring ex boyfriend, mean girl at work, quirky family, and dearest best friend.
I was completely into the book from start to finish and just really loved Emma and how she chose to handle some truly difficult circumstances. Jack felt that he had a big chunk of his heart missing since his best friend and business partner died and he needed someone like Emma to fill it.
My favorite Sophie K book!
I loved this book from the first reading, and long before the film made it popular. I emphasized with the main character, who hasn’t thought themselves flawed before? Who hasn’t wanted to hide all of their embarrassing secrets so that others would like them? A twist of fate has all her secrets revealed, a possible betrayal by the love of her life. But is everything as it seems? What if your secrets are what make you unique, what makes people love you?
This was the first of Sophie Kinsella’s books I’ve read, and I’m her fan ever since!
All time favorite Chick Lit! Absolutely hilarious!
This is a great easy to read book. The characters are fun and lovable.
What a funny and adorable story, loved it!!
This was the first book I read by Sophie Kinsella. I’d avoided the Shopaholics series because I was worried they’d be a little too close to home (I’ve since read them, they are, but I love them!).
I absolutely adored this book, it was so witty and I’d re-read it so many times since then. I was pleased when it was turned into a movie with one of my favourite actresses in it.
I do love the movie even though *insert snobby voice here* the book is better! Jack is adorable and funny and Emma is charming and also funny. She’s not perfect and I’m a big fan of realistic, imperfect characters.
My all time favourite
One of her fist books i read and i was hooked.
This was laugh-out-loud funny!!!! I couldn’t put it down! Makes you feel as if you were Emma trying to navigate her crazy world. Loved it!
LOVED this book, laughed out loud..great fun read!
