A fierce, protective rancher.A woman on the run from her father’s shadowy past.Cam’s Hope, Book Ten, MacLarens of Boundary Mountain Historical Western Romance SeriesCamden MacLaren is a rancher to his core, working long hours to continue the success of the family’s ranch, Circle M. Although a cattleman, his expertise is in training horses, breeding and preparing them to fulfill Army contracts. … Army contracts. Yet, he yearned for something more—the love of a woman strong enough for the hard life as a rancher’s wife.
Evangeline Rousseau made one adventurous decision in her life. After her parents’ deaths, she’d packed her belongings and moved across country to settle in the frontier town where her best friend lived. Buying her own house and settling in, she found herself wondering how a city girl such as herself could find a future in a town of ranchers, men who made a living with their hands.
The attraction between them was immediate, yet Cam hesitated to express his increasing desire for a woman with no knowledge of cattle, horses, or making a living from the land. No matter the intense pull between them, a beautiful, sheltered woman such as Vangie would find little happiness away from the advantages of a town.
Cam’s reasons to keep his distance fall away when threats are directed at Vangie. Men from her father’s past are hunting her down, following a trail from Grand Rapids to Conviction. The reason for their search is simple. Collect money Vangie’s father allegedly owed them, and they’ll use any means necessary to get it.
Cam’s Hope, book ten in the MacLarens of Boundary Mountain Historical Western Romance Series, is a stand-alone, full-length novel with an HEA and no cliffhanger.

There was plenty of suspense, romance, and some humor is this installment with the MacLaren family. Vangie Rousseu is attracted to Cam MacLaren and she knows he feels something too, but he holds back afraid she won’t be happy as a rancher’s wife. Her other suitor Deputy Seth Montero, who seems like a good guy, gives Cam some competition for her affections. Her deceased father got involved with some bad men, who are after her for money they feel he owed them. And there’s also several bank robberies, fires, and shootings. There is plenty of action in Conviction, not sure I’d want to visit with all the guns being drawn.
Camden MacLaren, a western rancher , is unexpectedly drawn to Evangeline Rousseau , who is a city woman transplanted to the west. Settle in for a good tale of how these two find common ground amidst friends in town and threats. Another keeper for the shelf about Boundary mountain.
Vangie and Cam MacLaren share a strong attraction, but circumstances create difficulties for them. Other suitors, gunshots fired at them, and two men from out-of-town that want Vangie’s money are only some of the difficulties they face. Through it all, their strong love for each other is the one constant.
I love Vangie’s connection with the other MacLarens. She fits right in and bonds immediately with Cam’s mother, Kyla. The more of these Boundary Mountain books I read, the more the characters become like good friends of mine!
One character I came to really like in this book is Eustice. He is so loyal to Vangie, always protecting her from harm. There was a surprising twist at the end of the book concerning him which I won’t share for obvious reasons.
I read this book in record time because it was so good and I hated to put it down. I hope Ms. Davies continues to add books to this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is the tenth book in Shirleen Davies’s fantastic Romantic Western series, “The MacLarens of Boundary Mountain.” If you are worried because you missed the nine other books, it is not necessary. It is very easy to enjoy and understand this story without having read the others first.
This is the story of Evangeline “Vangie” Rousseau and Cam MacLaren. All of the MacLarens are ranchers. They are an extended family that live and work together and treat each other as brothers.
Cam is part of this large family. He is a strong, hard-working man who puts his family, and his ranch, first. He is also handsome, kind and gentle and is able to attract any woman he wants.
Vangie is an independent city woman who is all alone since the death of her parents. She has moved to Boundary Mountain to live near her best friend who is married to one of the MacLarens.
Cam is infatuated with Vangie. However, his attention wavers back and forth because he is unsure if she has the ability to adapt to life as a rancher’s wife. This confuses Vangie and forces her to make her own advances towards Cam. It is all a delight to read.
This book is also an absorbing suspense novel. Vangie is being stalked by two evil brothers. They follow Vangie as she travels west because they claim that her dead father owed them money. Unfortunately, they are willing to do anything to redeem their money.
There is also a plot around a camp of gypsies who live near the MacLaren ranch. It appears that one of their members has gone rogue and has become a danger to Cam’s entire family.
Of course, the author skillfully uses these dangers as a tool to quickly bring Cam and Vangie together.
This is an absorbing historical romantic western that is fun to read. It also includes some suspense that will hold the attention of the readers.
Could not put it down. Cam and Vangie’s story is both exciting and engrossing. I so enjoyed the interesting way two story lines were weaved together to create an interesting story. I have always enjoyed Cam’s character throughout the series but getting to focus on him is so much better. I love the way he fumbles around Vangie. He is such a lovable guy.
I love historical western romance and gifted author Shirleen Davies is the queen of this genre with beautifully written stories that put your right in the middle of all that’s happening and strong characters that jump right off of the page and into your heart. I really liked “Cam’s Hope” that centered around fierce, protective rancher Camden MacLaren and Evangeline “Vangie” Rousseau who moves to Conviction.
This is the perfect read for anyone who enjoys well-crafted old west romance that is action-packed, and a real page-turner complete with outlaws, suspense, romance, and the MacLarens who are strong, completely loyal and loving to their family and friends.
I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased review.
I love reading about the MacLarens. Shirleen Davies does not disappoint with Cam’s Hope. Cam’s and Vangie’s story is captivating, full of action, intrigue and love.
Amazing
Cam’s Hope was a wonderful story with endearing characters. This book held my attention from the beginning until the end. I could not put this book down. There were so many wonderful characters that I would love to read more about. The vivid storytelling and world building made me feel like I could visualize the scenery and feel like I was a part of it. This was an amazing story and I would definitely recommend it.
The age-old question, can a city girl survive in the country, more than that can they thrive. Evangeline left Grand Rapid following her parents’ death. Camden MacLaren comes from one of the leading families of Conviction, California. Shirleen Davies always had interesting characters and story lines and this book is no exception. There is romance, mystery, intrigue and crime to satisfy any reader. I got totally involved in this story and although all the problems were solved I wasn’t really ready for it to end. I highly recommend this book.
Fantastic entry in the MacLaren legacy series. Lots of drama action and romance to keep your interest and keep you turning the pages. The characters are wonderfully developed with Cam winning you over from the very beginning. Can’t wait to see what comes next for this family
This is a good family who work together so well. They have been through some hard times and probably will go through more but they are there for each other 100%. Some of the “boys” are finding good women to marry and have done that and started families. It has made Cam yearn even more for what they have.
As attracted as Cam is to Vangie he’s got some really big fears about courting her as well. I kind of think that he was a bit shy to because more than once Vangie had to be a tiny bit bold in order to move things forward. Even when a time or two he was about to say something after getting up his nerve they got interrupted. There was some things going on in this town and the MacLaren ranch. . That made for plenty of interesting mysteries, action and dangers.
The romance part wasn’t real deep but it was charming.
Vangie’s childhood friend, Eustice was an unusual but good addition to the story.
Get ready for some surprise twists, and a good Epilogue at the end.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
this is a great story, Cam is afraid to tell Vangie how he feels, but his family give him a push, Vangie like Cam but does not think he cares can they survive when trouble comes to town.? if you like cowboys and romance you will want to read the book, you will want to be a part of the family this could be a stand alone but love that a lot of the others from previous books are in this one I love that the wedding was for an older person. I was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review. looking forward to the next book
Cam’s Hope is filled with action, intrigue, romance, suspense and the wild west. Definitely leading towards my five star rating. Cam MacLaren has his eye on Evangeline, or as everyone fondly calls her, Vangie. She has her eye on him too. After Vangie’s parents die, she comes west to visit her friend Suzette. Eustice, a childhood friend of Vangie’s comes to town to warn her of two men wanting money from her. Cam asks to court Vangie and she accepts. Cam and his family are dealing with a band of gypsies living close to their ranch, a mysterious fire, missing cattle, Cam’s younger cousin being shot, while amid unknown assailants shooting at Cam and Vangie, bank robberies and Vangie’s threat of being hunted by two strangers. All of these things keep the story fast paced and filled with action and drama. The author, Shirleen Davies, does a remarkable job of creating subplots within the storys’ main plot. There are so many twists and turns to keep you turning page after page, while wondering what will happen next and by whom. Her characters are filled with humor, sadness, kindness, anger, joy, strength, commitment and love. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Cam’s Hope and I highly recommend it! I received a free ARC from the author in return for my honest review.
Just when I thought maybe the series had ended, out comes this book which is terrific. It’s hard to beat the first book, “Colin’s Quest,” but this story is right up there with the best hero of the MacLaren famiy. I say this with a smile, as I’ve always said that Colin was my guy!
One of the younger brothers, Camden MacLaren, is loyal, dedicated to the ranch and hard working so rarely has time to meet and get acquainted with a special lady. Who knew it would happen at a wedding when Evangeline Rousseau stood out among all others. This book has it all: gun shots, bank robbers, extortion attempts and a gypsy camp near the Circle M ranch. It not only takes Brodie, the Sheriff, but all the deputies, family members and friends to keep harm away from Vangie and members of the family. I loved this book from the first page and couldn’t stop reading until the final words. This author has a way of bringing her reader up-to-date on characters and getting into the story-line immediately. (Look for Eustice as he makes the book special)
I thank the author for this ARC and the opportunity to read it early.
