“Baldwin’s plot is well-crafted and nicely filled with red herrings for the armchair sleuth to consider. His characters are authentic and powerful as they use their common sense, ingenuity, and sense of responsibility to help them determine the right course of action as they try to find Marcus’ little sister.” ~Reader’s Favorite, Jack Magnus

This is a quick and easy YA book. Four camp counselors decide there is something going screwy going on, but they have no clue how dangerous it is until it’s too late. Trapped by three evil men who don’t care what happens to the kids. It’s a page-turner!

Beneath and beside the mystery, action, and adventure, the campers and junior counselors explore…
… being friends with people different from yourself,
… going through experiences that test our personal character,
… when snitching is actually “doing the right thing,”
… what to do when friends urge you to join them in cheating at school,
… how to learn from one’s mistakes, and
…what qualities to really value in a friend.
Timothy R. Baldwin has crafted an entertaining and edifying novel that readers from middle school to adult will enjoy. A message of thanks goes out from this reader to all those middle school students of his who kept urging Mr. Baldwin to write a book.
I give this YA novel five stars out of five. Recommended.
The adults are telling a lie. That much are clear. Their stories don’t add up. When a girl goes missing, it’s up to the camp counselors to find out what happened.
Fast moving story with solid characters. Each character a distinct personality, and I loved the suspense of the mystery. Plenty of descriptions make the story vivid and full.
A good mystery geared more for teens than young adult.
Narration fit the story.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
The adults at Camp Lenape are hiding something, but they can’t get their lies straight. Now a little girl’s life just might depend on four young junior counselors having the brains and the courage to get to the bottom of what’s going on at Camp Lenape.
This is a short, fast moving, story, with a cast of credible teenagers doing believable things. The mystery is solid and the detection process worked for me. Baldwin also spends a lot of time establishing the teens, their relationships to each other and the adults, and the camp setting. Early on, I felt that there was a little too much of this, but by the end of the story, I realized how important the early chapters were to the climax of the tale. If you like a quick mystery, you’ll enjoy Camp Lenape.
I received this book free from Audiobook Boom in exchange for an honest review.
Camp Lenape is one of those stories that does a fantastic job of bringing the reader back into the mindset of someone much younger. Being in my 40s, I still feel the nostalgia and memories of my own time spent in the woods, at camps in the summers of my youth.
That being said, the author also manages to weave an excellent tale of mystery and suspense with these young adult characters that kept me engaged throughout.
I hope to read more from the author and I am very much looking forward to re-reading this story again in the years to come.
