#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • “The perfect crime scene … in the type of wild but smart caper that Grisham’s readers love.”—Delia Owens, author of Where the Crawdads Sing The master of the legal thriller sweeps you away to paradise for a little sun, sand, mystery, and mayhem. With Camino Winds, America’s favorite storyteller offers the perfect escape. Welcome back to Camino Island, where … escape. Welcome back to Camino Island, where anything can happen—even a murder in the midst of a hurricane, which might prove to be the perfect crime…
Just as Bruce Cable’s Bay Books is preparing for the return of bestselling author Mercer Mann, Hurricane Leo veers from its predicted course and heads straight for the island. Florida’s governor orders a mandatory evacuation, and most residents board up their houses and flee to the mainland, but Bruce decides to stay and ride out the storm.
The hurricane is devastating: homes and condos are leveled, hotels and storefronts ruined, streets flooded, and a dozen people lose their lives. One of the apparent victims is Nelson Kerr, a friend of Bruce’s and an author of thrillers. But the nature of Nelson’s injuries suggests that the storm wasn’t the cause of his death: He has suffered several suspicious blows to the head.
Who would want Nelson dead? The local police are overwhelmed in the aftermath of the storm and ill equipped to handle the case. Bruce begins to wonder if the shady characters in Nelson’s novels might be more real than fictional. And somewhere on Nelson’s computer is the manuscript of his new novel. Could the key to the case be right there—in black and white? As Bruce starts to investigate, what he discovers between the lines is more shocking than any of Nelson’s plot twists—and far more dangerous.
Camino Winds is an irresistible romp and a perfectly thrilling beach read—# 1 bestselling author John Grisham at his beguiling best.

entertaining story with some interesting characters–the hurricane aftermath eerily mimics corona virus twilight zone…
Camino Winds was a fast read with likeable characters. This story and the first one, Camino Island, are definitely a bit of a departure from Grisham’s normal legal thrillers but these stories still had some legal drama to draw you in.
I read for entertainment and enjoyed this book. I haven’t read a John Grisham book in awhile. Though I did like The FIrm. Legal thrillers are my things. Not sure why so many people now are criticizing so many writers. It’s called Fiction for a reason. If you want facts etc read Non-fiction. The depiction of the hurricane was acturate from my experiences with them. A good read…
I really liked it!
I really like CAMINO ISLAND, so I was excited to read the sequel. It had a slow start, and I wasn’t all that fond of the characters. The premise of the mystery is good. Add it to your summer reading list.
Just ok
Nice read
This is such a fun and clever series! I REALLY hope the author continues writing in this world. I can’t sing enough praises for this book and the previous book.
There’s nothing like a murder in the middle of a hurricane! This book is genius. Welcome back to the zany characters of Camino. A lot of the side characters don’t play as big of a part in this one as they did in the first one, but that was okay. Their parts in this book were well timed and delivered.
Although this book was written to be more of a fun book, the author did a well job at incorporating some fraud, the FBI, and a good murder mystery without it being boring and wordy. It wasn’t very technical in the amateur investigation. I never got bored. I was turning the pages, looking forward to what would happen next.
If you’re looking for a fun type of “thriller”, this is definitely one to pick up. Just make sure you read the first book first. Although it could be read as a standalone, you miss some of the things they refer to from the first book. You also get more of all of the characters in the first book. You will have a better connection to them by reading it.
This was a pleasant follow up to Camino Island but it was a very short book. It also left us hanging, so hopefully there will be another book in this series.
The pacing was a little off for me on this one. I’d looked forward to the sequel to Camino Island and the characters who live there. When a hurricane hits, it changes everything. There’s even a murder. I have to warn you that there’s plenty about miserable nursing home conditions in here.. If you have a loved one in a home, or are approaching a certain age, like I am, this book may disturb you. Even the ending was a little bit of a let down. But Grisham is entertaining. You may love it.
It was easy reading with a poor plot.
Excellent read.. hope there is more to this story!!
Loved it!
