#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • “The perfect crime scene … in the type of wild but smart caper that Grisham’s readers love.”—Delia Owens, author of Where the Crawdads Sing The master of the legal thriller sweeps you away to paradise for a little sun, sand, mystery, and mayhem. With Camino Winds, America’s favorite storyteller offers the perfect escape. Welcome back to Camino Island, where … escape. Welcome back to Camino Island, where anything can happen—even a murder in the midst of a hurricane, which might prove to be the perfect crime…
Just as Bruce Cable’s Bay Books is preparing for the return of bestselling author Mercer Mann, Hurricane Leo veers from its predicted course and heads straight for the island. Florida’s governor orders a mandatory evacuation, and most residents board up their houses and flee to the mainland, but Bruce decides to stay and ride out the storm.
The hurricane is devastating: homes and condos are leveled, hotels and storefronts ruined, streets flooded, and a dozen people lose their lives. One of the apparent victims is Nelson Kerr, a friend of Bruce’s and an author of thrillers. But the nature of Nelson’s injuries suggests that the storm wasn’t the cause of his death: He has suffered several suspicious blows to the head.
Who would want Nelson dead? The local police are overwhelmed in the aftermath of the storm and ill equipped to handle the case. Bruce begins to wonder if the shady characters in Nelson’s novels might be more real than fictional. And somewhere on Nelson’s computer is the manuscript of his new novel. Could the key to the case be right there—in black and white? As Bruce starts to investigate, what he discovers between the lines is more shocking than any of Nelson’s plot twists—and far more dangerous.
Camino Winds is an irresistible romp and a perfectly thrilling beach read—# 1 bestselling author John Grisham at his beguiling best.

Another exciting and intriguing read by Grisham, but then I expected nothing less. The man is a master at suspense entangled stories! It was definitely a 5 book!
Not up to Grisham’s usual standards.
When Hurricane Leo heads to Camino Island, most of the inhabitants head for higher ground. But Bruce Cable, the owner of Bay Books, sticks around with his friends Bob and Nick. That means that in the aftermath, Bruce and company are the ones who discover the body of novelist Nelson Kerr. After the discovery of the body, the rest of the book is about the conspiracy to hide what is happening in nursing homes nationwide and how Nelson was exposing the truth in his newest novel. I enjoyed the complicated plot, but the number of characters was hard to keep up with. There were characters on both coasts, characters in several different big cities and the regular ones on the island. This was not a book that made me relax because I had to think as I read it, about what was going on and who was who. The whole boook was enjoyable but was not a quick and easy read. Fans of Grisham will enjoy this novel, but it’s not really a legal thriller. It’s more like a legal revealer.

Grisham is a great author whose books are full of twists and turns. This one doesn’t disappoint.
i thank it is very helpful for everyone students
Great book, couldn’t put down
The second book in the series. This tells the story of Bruce (our bookstore owner from book 1), Bob Cobb and Nick as they prepare for a hurricane heading toward the island. After the hurricane wreaks its havoc on the island and moves on, they venture out to assess the damage. While checking on their friend, Nelson, they discover that he’s died from what is first believed to be blowing debris from the hurricane. They quickly discover that he was, in fact, murdered and set out to find out who killed him.
OK, but not one of Grisham’s best…
Another good story by Grisham. Interesting senario.
Thought it started out slow. Picked up towards the end.
Even with a 3 review I’d still recommend this novel to Grisham fans… I read it in a sitting and did enjoy it. However, in my humble opinion, it read like a novel that had been quickly thrown together just to get a sequel out. All of the funny and interesting characters from Camino Island were back and I did enjoy catching up with them. The storyline was just a bit…hmmm, what’s the right word? A wee bit flimsy and read as if it were hastily written. There are many great reviews for this book, it just wasn’t MY favorite and I definitely enjoyed the first of the series (Camino Island) more. So, if you’re a Grisham fan and enjoyed the first, I say give it a go.
This book takes the reader back to Camino Island and the familiar character of Bruce Cable, owner of Bay Books. A hurricane hits the island and in the aftermath there are several fatalities, including Bruce’s friend, Nelson Kerr. At first look, it appears he was killed by the storm, but with further inspection the death looks suspicious. The police and later the FBI get involved as well as Bruce and friends trying to figure out what happened and why. This book involves nursing homes, fraud, and murder. There were several things that I didn’t see coming in this well written thriller. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend also reading Camino Island, the first book in the series.
Not one of his best
It is a good read and I wanted to see what happened next. The back stories of several characters make you wonder. Interesting story situation.
This is an action packed book that goes from current time to past. It’s an interest keeper and easy to read. I read it in about two days.
I really loved the first book, Camino Island, and was looking forward this second one being just as good, if not better. Honestly, I was a little disappointed; Camino Winds was good but I much preferred the first. In Camino Winds, the island is hit and devastated by Hurricane Leo. In the storms wake, an author and friend of Bruce Cable’s, Nelson Kerr, is found dead on his porch. Though by first appearance it may seem that his death was caused by the storm, it turns out to be much more complicated. Bruce and friends set out to find the truth of what happened to their friend, Nelson.
As expected, another great entertaining story from Grisham! A thoroughly enjoyable book, a follow up story to Camino Island with returning characters. Highly recommended.
Followed his previous book Camino Island. Same characters.
I enjoy the majority of Gresham’s books. Especially his legal thrillers. This though is a little different, a continuation of his characters in his earlier Camino Island novel, both dealing with a book store owner and his adventures in solving a murder, coupled with his own not quite legal activities as a rare book dealer, and with his book store / cafe the focus of much of the island’s literary events, book tour stops.
The writing was good, as always with Grisham, and the story was original with new and well fleshed-out characters. I found no typos or poor editing, which I can’t stand. The problem with the book is on page 175 wherein he disparaged our President. Politics have no place in these kinds of novels and I don’t care what the author’s politics are. I buy their books for entertainment only and, to date, I have preordered every book Grisham has ever written and bought more to give to my friends. I will read them from the library in the future and, if he continues in this vein, I have other authors I like just as well so won’t continue to buy Grisham’s books. He needs to set politics aside and write wonderful stories which is what he is good at. If he wants to vent his political views, he needs to write a book about politics!
