I love this story about a women.
It took me a long time to get into it, but I was glad I stayed with it. The ending was worth the wait.
Not his best work but fun to guess the outcome
This was an interesting book to read for a reader. Grisham informed reader about the writing process with one of his characters, and book selling and rare books, with another. Crime, intrigue, too!
The black market world of purchasing rare books and manuscripts is at the center of this book which will keep you wondering just who are the good guys. Mercer Mann, an author who has turned to teaching after she cannot write her second book for various reasons is approached by a mysterious woman soon after the theft of manuscripts from Princeton University’s Firestone Library. The woman known as Elaine courts Mercer who has a history of spending summers with her grandmother on Camino Island into going undercover and returning there to help her and a mysterious benefactor find out what happened to the manuscripts after the theft. Mercer’s assignment is to cozy up to Bookstore owner Bruce Cable a Camino Island bookstore owner who is also a prominent dealer of rare books with a sideline in the book black market. Mercer, who was downsized from her job accepts after negotiating a deal with Elaine. Beginning with the theft and continuing to Camino Island the mystery, twists, and back stabbing is a suspenseful story which will keep you wondering just who one can trust.

Not Grisham’s best. Fairly easy read, but little intrigue and character development. Just a gentle story that is okay, but certainly not great.
