Camelot Overthrown: A LitRPG beginningFollow Sir Gorrow as he levels from squire to Knight of the Round Table, hones his fighting skills, improves his sword with crafting and the blessings of saints, then rides forth with King Arthur to defend the fortress city of Camelot against an ever rising tide of darkness and the armies of the Evil One.The dream of the Round Table: What was once, could rise … Table: What was once, could rise again!
The Camelot Overthrown series charts the rise of Gorrow, from Level 1 noob to unassailable Knight of the Round Table. In this first book, Gorrow is apprenticed to a knight who teaches him the ways of the lance and sword and together they go on quests to seek saintly blessings for Gorrow’s weapons.
But, in addition to being a knight, Gorrow also wants to build a town with a tower on the borderlands as a guard against the enemy to the east, and that creates a dilemma when it comes to allocating his skill points.

I am not a gamer and thought I’d give this a listen and after listening to the audiobook I decided I have to finish the series. The narrator was perfect, there’s a bit where the sound quality is degraded but it did correct again after a few chapters. Tony Walker did a wonderful job reading and his inflections were right on at the appropriate moments. I enjoyed the story quite a lot. The snarkiness of the owl and mule, and humorous comments by the dwarf miners and other players like Luke and Adele. The whole concept is great and I love the way Goro, I think that’s his name, decider to earn point and money to establish himself by mining. All the others he come across seem to think that’s an odd way to start. It does seem unusual but it works out for him. The questing adventure continues on and I can’t help but wonder where Goro, his character’s names, is going with all this. I am sufficiently hooked and plan to continue on with Galen Wolfs’ Camelot adventures. I really do lack sufficient gamer terminology to explain any more of the story line you just have to read or listen to it. Yes there could have been a bit more detail in the story but after a bit it didn’t matter if was just fun to listen to. I feel these may be better in an audio book format due to the narrators ability to give it life. Anyway I think you’d like it.
I was given a copy of the audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first time listening/reviewing an audiobook. I am new to the LitRPG genre and the author Mr. Whalen. As this was my first LitRPG I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from the telling of this story. The beginning pace of the story was slightly slow but details of the characters and their environment were helpful in giving the reader a fair picture to go along with the story. Vague references to the Arthurian legend will give the reader a slight sense of familiarity.
I did find the story was a little bogged down and cluttered at first with almost constant numerical figures being thrown at the reader/listener sometimes at breakneck speed. The numbers didn’t always add up and there were also instances where characters genders were mixed up several times. A rudiment knowledge of online gaming and their various platforms would be helpful for the reader’s enjoyment but isn’t necessary. Gorrow quickly advances in the game and rank until he becomes a Knight of the Round Table. Gorrow is also making plans for a defendable fort for himself and those that need shelter should the occasion call for it.
Read/listen to this knight’s tale and see what he and various others will face in the game to come. I’m interested to see to what’s in store for who in the books to come.
