I’ve read this book multiple times and this book is one of my go to reads of the Gloves Off Series but I’ve never actually gotten around to posting a review so here goes. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the connection between Camden and Brooklyn. Camden is on the run as helped Mason take down Scar and the Dark Side underground fighting ring so it’s not safe for him to stay in California since Scar vowed to get retribution. Even though him and his twin Ryley had a falling out he doesn’t want Scar to use his wee niece and nephew to get to him so that’s what makes him go on the run as he didn’t want too as fighters aren’t used to running but for he did to protect them.
Brooklyn is an undercover cop who works for Mason and has had the job protecting Camden for the last four months but Mason decides that it’s time to head back to home to Charlotte so she can have help watching him and it’s time that she go home and deal with everything even if it’s the last thing she wants to do. Her and her younger sister Braylen were in a car accident, the car caught on fire and Jason their brother was first on the scene and he saved Brooklyn as Braylen had already passed away before he arrived. The completely horrible thing is that their parents blame him for rescuing the wrong daughter as Braylen was their favourite and perfect in their eyes and the only reason they still talk to Brooklyn is because she looks so much like her sister. Brooklyn and Jason both have physical reminders from that night as the car caught fire, Jason’s whole back in completely scarred as he shielded Brooklyn with his body as much as he could. While Brooklyn was grieving Braylen she pushed her boyfriend Blake away as she also didn’t want him to see her scars. He ended up cheating on her which is a complete a*sehole move anyway but it makes it so much worse after everything she’s been through but really if Blake really cared about her he would’ve waited however long for her or at least tried to talk to her so since Blake is part of her team she’s also worried about having to deal with him when she heads home.
Camden and her end up becoming friends as Mason keeps on throwing them together which Brooklyn isn’t happy about as she knows exactly what he’s done in the past even if she sees that he’s changed in the four months that she’s watched him, and Scar is still after him so she doesn’t want to be caught in the crossfire but Mason knows that it’ll be the easiest way to protect him. Brooklyn is exactly the type of women that Camden needs as she challenges him, she’s not afraid to fight or call him on his sh*t. I liked how their relationship progressed naturally and it didn’t feel rushed or forced. I was on the edge of my seat trying to work out who the traitor was on Mason and Brooklyn’s team as it’s such a betrayal that someone close to them would work with Scar but for them to get away with it while working under Mason it’s just goes to show what an accomplished liar they are. I liked getting more of Mason, Gabby and Pax. I also loved meeting Blake and Jason even though Blake is a complete a*sehole, I’m really looking forward to reading their stories in the Armed & Dangerous Series once I’ve finished reading Kyle’s story next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
