A delightfully funny novel packing a clever punch, from the author of the New York Times bestselling Julie and Romeo
A mom in her early fifties, Clover knows she no longer turns heads the way she used to, and she’s only really missed when dinner isn’t on the table on time. Then Clover wakes up one morning to discover she’s invisible–truly invisible. She panics even more when her family doesn’t … panics even more when her family doesn’t notice a thing. Her best friend immediately observes the change, which relieves Clover immensely–she’s not losing her mind after all –but she is crushed by the realization that neither her husband nor her children ever truly look at her. She was invisible even before she knew it.
Clover discovers that there are others like her, women of a certain age who seem to have disappeared. As she uses her invisibility to get to know her family and her town better, Clover leads the way in helping invisible women become recognized and appreciated no matter what their role.

Who among us has never felt invisible? This book explores the drawbacks and the superpowers that accompany that actuality in a woman so like so many of us. The characters are charming, their frustrations and delights as they navigate this new state of being instantly recognizable. What fun!
Truly original story based on a premise that we women of a certain age can relate to; becoming invisible to those around us. I don’t want to spoil any of the unexpected story line here, but this was truly a book that has stayed with me and that I have actively recommended to my friends.
Strange book. I thought it would draw a parallel to feeling invisible as we hit mid life. Instead it was physical invisibility due to a combination of drugs. Seemed a bit bizarre without a real ability to make me interested in the characters.
I loved this book. As “a woman of a certain age”, I’m very familiar with feeling invisible. This book takes that a step further and though it is humorous at times, it also has a great message that we all need I think.
Many women feel invisible in our society. For those of us who can’t connect to such a feeling, there is Jeanne Ray’s Calling Invisible Women. With courage and encouragement this author helps us identify with such an experience. At times, the novel is laughable. At other times it’s truly sad. It is also incredible. On whatever level you connect, …
this was such an original story. I really enjoyed it. The idea that women become invisible to their families is pretty spot on. These women banded together to try and solve what was happening to them. A very enjoyable read.
A great What If…
Suspend your disbelief. A crazy concept but I wanted to find out what happened next!
I LOVED this book! I have never felt invisible in my life no matter how hard I tried, until I too reached a certain age. During the past years, I’ve learned that I’m no longer seen as vibrant and vital. I’m not seen at all as long as things are humming along as they should, much like the main character, Clover. Fortunately, she finds a network of …
I loved this book. This is for all the women of a certain age who believe themselves to be invisible, especially to family and friends. This book takes it one step further, and really makes you think…. It resonated with me.
Could not get into this book
Silly
A bit quirky, but a great message
I picked up Jeanne Ray’s book, Eat Cake, several years ago at a thrift store. I didn’t know her then as an author, but loved the book, so was excited to come across Calling Invisible Women about a middle-aged woman who gave up a career to raise a family who wakes up one day to find she is invisible. Witty, fanciful and yet seriously relatable for …
Not believable at all but thought provoking for sure… easy to read, easy to relate to.
I was looking for a light and entertaining summer book, and not only got an entertaining story, but it actually made me think a bit and cheer for all those women who do indeed seem to become invisible, being taken for granted as time goes by. Some of the “adventures” were pretty predictable and almost cartoonish, but I did want a light read, so I …
Relatable, yet needed a bit more closure.
This is one of the best new books I have read in a while, just so unexpected & full of humor, twists, and definitely a page-turner! LOVED it
This was such a sweet book. the characters were good friends to each other. And even though no one will have the experience of being literally invisible, we all can relate to the feeling.
Wasn’t sure when I started it but kept reading and it turned out to be quite Thought provoking
