What’s a bigger disaster than being stranded on an ice planet with a bunch of aliens, never to return home? Resonating to the biggest jerk of all those aliens, of course. I hate M’tok, and it seems to be mutual. He thinks I’m ugly and unpleasant, and doesn’t understand why I don’t just fling myself at him. In his eyes, resonance has decided, and that’s that.Problem is, resonance keeps pushing us … pushing us together. And when that doesn’t make me jump into his furs…he steals me away from the camp. I can’t avoid him if there’s nowhere to go.
I want to hate him even more for that. But I keep finding out that M’tok isn’t who I thought he was. And the man I hate? Doesn’t hate me at all…

M’tok is a character that I really enjoyed. M’tok is clever & sly and will do anything too make Callie understand that they belong together. Great read once again in this series. Can’t wait too read about the next couple in this series.
I know that Ruby Dixon gives the warning about the subject matter, but I too wanted to restate it. Before COVID, I may not have fully understood Callie, but after months of not being able to see my family…at least I still get to talk to them, and know that I will eventually get to see them. I honestly couldn’t imagine getting taken by Aliens, landing on another Alien planet, all knowing I will never see my family again. I think the depression and devastation would be very real. I love this series so much, and I have always went in being on the side of the ice planet people, because they only know of their culture, resonance and mates. This is one of the first times I was able to see the other side of it, and really identify with the huge life change that happens when these women are stolen and landing on a planet that is not theirs and they will never be able to leave. And the ice planet people are wonderful to these women, and their mates treat them like they are precious, but it would still be a very, very heavy adjustment that is not to be taken lightly. I think that Ruby Dixon absolutely nailed it with this storyline, all the emotions and feels, all of which I can identify with more now, obviously not to the extent of Callie’s and M’tok, since they both have lost so much. This was a wonderful and emotional read, that allows you to feel both sides, and feel you did.
Callie does not want to have resonance with M’tok…so like any good barbarian…he takes her and hopes that she will fall for him. These two were so misunderstood, and the powerful connection they develop was everything. This was a safe read, and an emotional storyline that will keep you up late at night and have you rooting for this stubborn couple to get their well deserved hea. And they are so fiercely protective of each other…oh, and did I mention they can’t keep their hands of each other…yup, there’s that too. Oh, and I think a surprise is coming into the camp *sing songy voice*….that I have to read the next book to find out…I think we all know I am reading that book nowish.
More please…always, always want more. #BookCrackSeries
Oh…and Liz is still my favorite and Ashtar is still a badass…that is all.
Callie thinks that nothing can be worse than her current situation. When she resonates to an arrogant alien jerk she realizes it can get worse. M’tok tries his best to prove to Callie that he would make a good mate. After weeks of her ignoring him M’tok takes matters into his own hands and kidnaps her from the tribe.
Callie is a stubborn one but she is also struggling with depression. Just when she is starting to find herself in this new world she resonates and her world turns upside down. I really related to Callie at the beginning of this book. Her struggle with depression was spot on, especially right now during this quarantine. So if books with depression trigger your own you might want to skip this book and move onto the next book. While I liked Callie, she also annoyed me with her constant hatred and negativity of M’tok. It got better once she actually started talking to him though.
“It’s hard to get out of bed and face another day when I know it’s just going to be more shit piled atop the shit cake.”
M’tok was determined to do everything he could to woo Callie, except actually talk to her. After hearing other members of the tribe had kidnapped their humans he does the same. Once they are by themselves and actually start talking their relationship really bloomed. I loved all the little scenes between them like M’tok being a neat freak and Callie embroidering. Another thing I loved about M’tok was that he accepts Callie as she is. He is proud that she is a stubborn and bold woman and not a quiet or shy one.
“She is strong in heart, my mate. She is bold and fearless, laughing and quick, and she is not afraid to tell others when they are wrong. I like that.”
Overall, this was a great alien romance. I cannot wait to read the next one and see how Penny and S’bren fare on their own.
I was glad to see Callie and M’tok finally talk and sort through the misunderstandings that occured upon their first meeting. Too bad it took him drugging and kidnapping her to accomplish it. But it was good to see them finally enjoying one another. And I also quite appreciated the fact that she didn’t just let the jerkface totally get away with everything.
Not the best of the series
While I normally adore any/all of Ruby Dixon’s books, this one isn’t a fave. The drugging and kidnapping thing is iffy with me, but I can live with it. That Callie is depressed and angry I can also understand and live with. But Callie’s behavior is so egregiously cruel to M’tok! This isn’t Earth, M ‘tok isn’t Cuban and neither is anyone else on IceHome. Callie is acting like she won’t accept any other reality – which is w-a-ay beyond depression – it’s psychotic. I guess that’s why I can forgive the drug-and-dragaway; this chica is in need of psychotropic meds and in-patient treatment , and M’tok inadvertently supplies the only alternative available on IceHome. Given the context of the entire story, It’s nowhere near as sinister as you might think. Now, S’bren doing ditto to Penny? SO NOT DOWN WITH THAT!!
Loved the story because finally, we learn why Callie is so angry with her potential mate. As always, a terrific read from a vastly entertaining author.
*WARNING* contains sexual content and a cliffhanger (sorta) ending
Callie (the lead female character) is not pleasant, nice, or any other good thing I can think of, until a little over half way through the book. This story is a bit more realistic in the sense that a human female probably wouldn’t immediately adapt to an alien planet or an alien mate even with a vibrating cootie in their chest. I think that even though the Callie character was miserable and depressed, she didn’t have to make everyone else the same and the fact that she knew she was doing it, made me dislike her immediately. I think this story was okay. I didn’t like the main character.
The ninth book in the Icehome series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Through a misunderstanding Callie and M’Tok do not get off to a great start, so he kidnaps her. I enjoyed reading how they get their happy ending. I read a copy through K.U. and I am voluntarily reviewing.
4 & 1/2 stars rounded up.
Once again, I’ve enjoyed another book in this series. Can’t believe it’s book 9 already! I normally avoid long running series, cause they can seem repetitive at times. But I really like this series, and so far, it hasn’t felt overly repetitive, maybe because of the different tribes & aliens mixed up, is enough to keep it different. I really liked M’tok, for me he carried the whole story, & kept me reading. He was the ultimate mate, doing everything to be a good partner! I loved his neat-nick OCD – everything in it’s place, it cracked me up. Callie had moments where I thought she was a real jerk & really struggled with the story in a few places because of her self absorbed behavior, I realize it’s her depression, but it was still hard to let her slide on it. Looking forward to book 10 now!
I’ve enjoyed each of the Ice Home books, but I have to say that I especially liked Callie’s story. Ms. Dixon did an excellent job of showing the reader the difficulties Callie faced after being torn away from her family, yet handled the situation delicately enough not to trigger readers. Seeing Callie and M’tok come together, watching her reluctantly fall for him, warmed my heart. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the series!
