For the past year, Chloe St. John has been working as a K-9 cop with her German shepherd partner, Hank. After being dumped by her fiancé for another woman, Chloe has decided that Hank is just about the only male she likes. She’s over the whole romance thing and focuses her attention on doing her job. Because a serious case of human trafficking with connections to her missing cousin just landed in … in her lap.
When US Marshall Blake MacCallum’s daughter goes missing, he’s ordered to kill the judge he’s protecting and tell no one about his daughter’s disappearance or she will die. Blake races against the clock to rescue his daughter while Chloe and Hank are asked to be a part of the task force assembled to bring down the traffickers. Chloe finds herself attracted to the silent, suffering man, but thanks to her previous bad judgment, she wonders if she can trust him. And can Blake trust himself around this firecracker of a woman?
Bestselling author Lynette Eason warns readers to buckle in for a fast and furious ride that will have their hearts pumping from the very start.

Human trafficking is a tough subject to talk about let alone write about. Eason writes with sensitivity in this highly suspenseful novel.. The St John family is pretty amazing and Called to Protect is riveting. I found myself completely invested in the story. Chloe’s K-9, Hank, is an absolute fabulous character! This is a pretty amazing series so far. For a $1.99 on Kindle, Called to Protect it is a deal.
Called to Protect is the second book in Lynette Eason’s Blue Justice series, but it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. Lynette Eason captivates her readers with a thrilling, action-filled romantic suspense novel that keeps them eagerly anticipating what will happen next.
Called to Protect is reminiscent of the TV show Blue Bloods, but this book is even better that the TV show! In the Blue Justice series, five of the six St. John siblings are involved in law enforcement, and their mother is the chief of police. I love the family dynamic between the six St. John siblings and their parents and how they still get together for family dinners despite their busy schedules.
Chole St. John and her K-9 partner Hank are part of a task force to help find Deputy US Marshal Blake MacCallum’s kidnapped daughter. Their search for answers with the assistance of other members of law enforcement leads them both into danger, and Blake and Chloe don’t know who they can trust. Could there be a chance for romance for Chloe and Blake?
Called to Protect deals with difficult content, including human trafficking, and portrays the horrors those women faced in an honest and heart wrenching manner, while intricately weaving the spiritual elements into the novel. Called to Protect focuses on the themes of forgiveness and how God is always present in our lives. The St. John family’s strong belief in God helps them face the difficult situations they encounter in their daily lives. As Blake MacCallum said in the novel, “Life is short and we need to grab on to the good times and let the bad ones fade away.”
Called to Protect is highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense, and readers who enjoy novels by authors such as Dani Pettrey and Lynn H. Blackburn. I know readers will fall in love with the St. John family just like I did. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series when Brady St. John gets his own story!
I purchased a copy of this book and was under no obligation to write a review. All opinions expressed are mine.
A race against time…
If you love Blue Bloods, riveting suspense, and dealing with heavy current events with a faith element, you will love this series. This is the second book of Eason’s Blue Justice series and it was even better than the first, Oath of Honor!
Called to Protect is not a light read as it deals with the heavy topic of human trafficking. However the author takes us right to the edge of the harsh realities of human trafficking without bringing it over the edge. It was a thoughtful and insightful read. I loved the humanness of the St. John family…they are relatable in their faith struggles. I love seeing their interactions and love for family.
Chloe St John takes lead in this book with her German Shepherd K-9. She is my fav character so far. Strong and determined and yet, loving and devoted. I’m in awe of her and want to be her when I grow up 🙂 US Marshall Blake’s daughter is kidnapped and will die if he doesn’t kill a judge. They have to work together with their whole team to find her. As they uncover a human trafficking network, it’s a race against time to save his daughter, reduce others, and possibly find her cousin Penny.
Riveting, inspiring suspense with a focus on a tough topic that needs addressing. Just don’t read the first chapter before bed, like I did! You won’t be able to sleep until you read more.
Highly recommended. 5 Plus stars!
Really enjoyed this book. Easy to read with a great story line.
Lynette Eason became one of my favorite Christian romantic suspense authors after the first book I read by her. She only gets better with each book.
Action packed, suspense, fast paced and a touch of romance. If you love all of these then “Called to Protect” is for you.
Chloe St. John has sworn off romance and only Hank, her K-9 German Shephard has her heart and affections. Folow this duo as they try to stop a human trafficking ring. Deputy U.S. Marshall Blake MacCallum makes it worse by insisting he be a part of the investigation. After all, his daughter has been abducted and all clues point to her as a pawn to get to the judge Blake is guarding.
This is a little gritty and your heart will be touched by what these young girls go through. You will be turning pages, have tears and hate it when you reach the last page.
I received this book from the author & publisher (Revell) for my honest opinion and review. All opinions are my own & I have been a big fan of Lynette Eason for years. Her books are always page turners, and she only gets better with each book published. Highly recommend this book and author.
This is the second book in the Blue Justice series. This book deals with human trafficking, and it is fast paced and action packed.
If you read the first book in the Blue Justice series, you were probably as excited as I was to get my hands on this one. Eason has a way of drawing me in, and holding me captive until the very last page. I try to tell myself not to read the teaser for the next book, a.k.a. the torturer, but I can’t seem to obey. So here I am yet again anxiously awaiting the next Blue Justice book. This series follows the St. John family as they fight for justice and watch out for each other. Called to Protect focuses on Chloe and her amazing dog Hank. Working as a team they are unstoppable, too bad they can’t be everywhere at once. When a case hits close to home they will do everything in their power to find those responsible.
Blake doesn’t know if life will ever get back to normal. Having a teenager is never easy, but he would take that any day over worrying if he can find his daughter before it’s too late. Someone is taking young girls and Blake will stop at nothing to put an end to this nightmare. Knowing he can’t do it alone, his best friend creates a task force of experts in all different areas, which luckily happens to include Chloe and Hank. Will the team be enough to rescue the newest batch of missing girls?
This book was so unique. Having human trafficking be such a huge part of the story was hard sometimes. Having two girls of my own, it hit close to home. I loved reading about the bravery these girls displayed in the face of what would have been terrifying. Eason transported me there and had me biting my nails several times. I enjoyed getting to know Chloe and Blake more, and can’t wait to see everyone again. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Suspense. I had the hardest time putting this book down, and know you will as well. I was kept on the edge of my seat having no clue what could possibly happen next. I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishers and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Action packed from beginning to end. Hard to put down.
Lynette Eason does it again with this action packed book. The special agents chase down the evil forces and bring justice. It’s a page-turner for sure!
I have been reading Lynette Eason‘s novels since some of her earliest ones published by Love Inspired Suspense. I have watched her talent develop over the years into first class suspense and have several friends who have now read most of her books also. We all look forward to each one that is published. I often have the good fortune to receive a review copy which is a true blessing. Called to Protect more than met my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced suspense novel.
Called to Protect jumps in foot first and takes off running from the very first page. Chloe St. John and Deputy US Marshall Blake MacCallum find themselves working together on a human trafficking case with a much too personal connection. Both Chloe’s missing cousin and Blake’s kidnapped daughter may be held by the traffickers. The action is nonstop and the suspense builds with each page. Chloe and Blake must learn to trust each other and depend on God if they are to rescue the missing girls before it is too late.
I voluntarily reviewed a digital copy of this book provided by Revell through NetGalley. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
Love L Eason!
Another great book by Lynette Eason! This one had me on edge from start to finish. It was very intense and at times downright scary. I loved how the real culprit was not revealed until the very end. I also enjoyed the very subtle romance between the H and h, and I hope we’ll hear more of their story in the next book in this series (which, by the way, I can’t wait to read!).
You catch the under tone feeling from the beginning, anticipation of what the author is bringing us, to another ride, of grief, and a chase. A pile up accident, reveals drugs, and human trafficking . We meet the Marshall, on assignment to protect a judge, with orders to kill, if he wants to see his daughter again. A cousin of the St John’s was one of the girls found. She makes a bad decisions and is recaptured. Chloe and Hank, feeling he is her best boy friend to have. Their lives and decisions are on the line, with the closeness of their families they do there job. Human trafficking is a nightmare for the victims as well as families. Even the judge who wants a stiffer penalty for them. A story one won’t forget, and looking forward to the next one, Given ARC by Net Galley and Revell for my voluntary review and my honest opinion. I just finished the second book in the Blue Justice series, and a warning, once you turn that first page the nonstop action is going to make you keep turning and gasping, as the shoes start to drop. This one is just as good as the first, and we are with the St. John family, and mainly Chloe and her K-9 Hank, but other members of this police family are here.
The book deals with the tough subject of human trafficking and we meet it first hand when a member of their family goes up missing.
While the author is giving us different family relationships here, and there is more than one, we deal with murder as a way of shutting someone up, there doesn’t seem to be any regard for human life, and when the final move is shown it holds many surprises. A don’t miss book, with a final tease at the end!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell and was not required to give a positive review.
Lynette Eason delivers again with a suspense thriller that will not disappoint her fans or her new readers! Blake McCallum is hot on the trail of the human trafficking ring that took his daughter Rachel and Chloe is a big help, with her magnificent and talented dog Hank. For me, Hank stole the show (or the plot) with his dogged persistence and steadfast loyalty no matter what he was asked to do. The tension was non-stop as Blake and the St. Johns race against the clock to save Rachel before she is sold at an upcoming auction. The bad guys in this book are really bad, and the action is so breath-taking that it is hard to put the book down until the final satisfying scene. There is just enough clean romance to entice readers of that genre and plenty of suspense for everyone! This is a must-read for Eason fans, and I totally appreciate all of her research that she obviously did into human trafficking and the use of dogs to track people and drugs.

What an exciting ride! I’m absolutely loving this new series! Chloe St. John is a cop with a trained K-9 who is able to sniff out drugs and people. Blake MacCullam is a US Marshal who is being threatened along with his daughter, Rachel. Together, with the entire St. John family, they discover a human trafficking ring and are up against time trying to find these girls and solve the case. I loved the interaction of the St. John family and the intensity of the storyline, there’s never a dull moment! I would highly recommend and am looking forward to the next book!
Called To Protect is very adventurous, mysterious, Faithfilled and multi-storied. How awesome is that – you get more bang for your buck. You start off with an incredible family made up of all first responders and one of their own is in trouble – deep trouble – scared to death trouble – and it leaves you right off in a cliff hanger – It is very alarming and bleak and then it leads you into another situation that is courageous, defensive, coordinated and criminal – extremely criminal. It takes the majority of the family working together to take on the whole situation and get through the situation. It was dangerous and it took a lot of their training to carry them through. The author really made the book very descriptive so that you can see the whole book as it goes on as if you where right there among the rest of them. You could feel the danger as the ——-wait a minute I can’t tell you what happened – it will ruin it for you but it is unreal and worth the read. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

Lynette Eason has done it again. There is suspense everywhere you turn. Chloe gets into all kinds of situations where her life is put in danger. Blake is put in a terrible situation. Does he kill or does his inaction get his daughter killed. This is a fast paced story with a little romance thrown in. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next installment of this series.
I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
‘God, why is this happening? Why do you hate me? What did I ever do to you?’
In this second installment of her Blue Justice series, Eason shines! Chloe St. John and her German Shepherd Dog partner, Hank, are a team. He is probably the only male that she likes. She is so over romance.
Deputy U.S. Marshall Blake MacCallum is assigned protection duty to a judge who is trying to get stiffer sentences for human trafficking. When Blake’s daughter is kidnapped with orders that she will not be released unless he kills the judge, the race is on to bring down those responsible. Chloe St. John is called in to assist with her dog, Hank, and soon she finds herself attracted to the stoic marshall.
Eason takes her readers on a mighty fine ride with this one, so buckle your seatbelts at the first page. Fast paced, well developed, multi-layered characters make this one unforgettable read. I am completely hooked! And there are several more St. John siblings, so we have more books to look forward to. This one is a keeper!
