Someone on posh Callander Square will kill to keep a secret in this “superior” mystery from the New York Times–bestselling author of Twenty-One Days (The San Diego Union-Tribune). When two dead infants are dug up in the Callander Square gardens, the upper-class residents dismiss the burials as the desperate act of a low-born girl and resent the intrusion of Inspector Thomas Pitt into their … Inspector Thomas Pitt into their well-ordered lives. Pitt is not convinced that the case should be so easily dropped. Also intrigued by the mystery, Pitt’s well-born wife, Charlotte, pursues her own investigation into places Thomas would never have access—the parlors and inner chambers of the mansions on the fashionable square. With her sister Emily, Lady Ashworth, who lives on Callander Square, she delves into the lives and secrets of the residents. Thomas and Charlotte, now expecting their first child, form the perfect sleuthing couple. Elegant closets soon spill their skeletons exposing long-hidden secrets—secrets that could lead even the most upright aristocrat to kill.
But will Pitt’s keen investigative skills and Charlotte’s insights into the workings of high-class society solve the mystery in time to save the innocent residents of Callander Square from the murderer among them?
Callander Square is the 2nd book in the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt Novels, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.

Callander Square by Anne Perry
This is my first read by this author and I must say I was not disappointed. The cast and of characters is finely tuned was amazing.
Charlotte Pitt has married below her station to a police detective. She is a stay at home wife expecting their first child and quite normal for the time. When she learns of the case her husband is working on she tells her married sister and they both make it their mission to help her husband solve the case.
As the case unravels so many twists and turns occur you needs to take notes. The notorious gossip prevails in this story weaving to a blindsided murderer. I love this book and plan to read more from this author.
Anne Perry’s Victorian mysteries are extremely well researched, as well as well written. She captures the time period perfectly. I aways recommend her books to people who love a good mystery, and are Victoriana buffs!
Enjoyable. Interesting what havoc gossip can generate.
Return to the days of yesterday when class was everything, but her characters overcome the system.
Ann Perry’s books are always a good read, especially if you like the Victorian era. She makes you think you are right there with the characters looking on through their eyes. Not too many authors can do that! She never fails to write a thought provoking book.
I haven’t read any book of hers I didn’t like. If you like mysteries with great characters you’ll love her different series. So far from what I’ve read of her series they are stand alone.
Anne Perry books are some of my favorites!
Perry is wonderful.
I love this series it is so interesting it is hard to put down
Anything written by and Perry is always a good read! She is a wonderful author
I liked this book and will read more in this series
Anne Perry is so good at showing us that things are not always as they seem. The way she writes about her characters you can see them clearly in your mind almost like you are walking down the street with them. So many details allow you to pretend you are in Victorian England.
Again, lower the price of this series, and I can certainly afford to buy more. Love the series’ characters.
Anne Perry has created a great crime solving team in Charlotte and Thomas Pitt. Both contribute to solving the crime in their own way.
Miss Perry deals with the love between the couple in a subdued manner which is appealing. She uses their affection and healthy passion as a contrast to lust and unhealthy passion which leads to murder.
I love these for the picture you get of that world
Anne Perry is on my list of top British authors, and this book does not disappoint. Well-developed characters and great plot.
After two dead babies are found in a prominent part of town, Inspector Thomas Pitt has to investigate in the rich neighborhood where everyone has a secret to hide. Charlotte goes undercover to help him as she was born in the upper crust and understands them better and can get information from them they won’t share with Pitt. Mrs. Campbell, her sister, is still in the rich circles and helps her with clues by getting her in with some of the rich people. This is great Victorian set mystery with intriguing characters.
Enjoyed this book immensely I adore all of Anne Perry’s books.
I look forward to reading each new book for Anne Perry. Her novels are seamlessly written and allow her characters to age.
Fun little mystery – enjoy the series…
