Tracy Cassidy a self-reliant ER nurse has to choose between pursuing her dream job in another city or staying to help support her mother’s faltering ministry…Even if it means falling in love with the kind of man she said she’d never marry.Tom Delaney a hyper-vigilant cop and single father to an adolescent son is happy to keep his wounded heart protected behind his Kevlar. “Is that how you see me, a repeat offender with no hope of redemption?”
Above all, the message I took away in a Call to Love is redemption. It is available for all who call on Him. Felkins’ characters have some deep-seated issues–fear, anger, bitterness. Only God can deliver Tracy and Tom from these destructive emotions.
I really enjoyed Tracy’s mom. She is a wise woman who gently imparts strength to those around her through perseverance and compassion. Can you picture the following? I can.
With a deep stare, Mom peered over the top of her reading glasses. “When love is real, you’ll answer the call no matter the cost…” She squeezed Tracy on her arm, infusing wisdom into her veins. “If you choose to trust the goodness of God’s heart.” (Location 984 of 3759)
See what I mean. Wise. Words.
The story is heavy with purple prose but many readers will still enjoy Felkins’ debut contemporary romance. I was provided an electronic copy from the author. No review was required. No compensation received.
This book was so good!! A wonderfully written story about second chances. The author brought the book to life with her words. You could see the scenery, feel all the emotions, and felt like you were there. This book was a joy to read! I received an ARC copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I started to pick this book up and realized I had already read it and forgot to leave a review so here goes!
I hope to do this book justice because it was so heartwarming, touching and all the above makes you feel good things after you read a book like this!
Second chances at love? The main character Tracy isn’t too sure about that one!
A lot of things stand in her way but only because she allowed it to! I just love her mom! I wished I had a mom like that!
I want to thank Jesus for giving me a 2nd chance at love! He is a true blessing!
Life’s events can be controlling, out of control or they can be just about the awesomest ( is that even a word)? thing ever!
Tom Delaney is the coolest person ever in my book along with his son Stephen. Of course with most teenagers he’s a brat. But eventually he comes around and I appreciated that.
Kids can be really cool when someone takes the time out to get to know them. They are people too!!
I really enjoyed this sweet read and it lifted up my spirits some. I love books like this.
I love it when authors seem to want my opinion on their books!
Pride is the ugliest feeling there is! As the Amish would say Hocmut. I think that is how u spell it. Pride goeth before a fall. Resentment falls back to pride. All of these things will the downfall if that person allows it to. There’s no shame in apologizing to someone if you really mean it!
I think what I liked about this book was the way Tom and Tracy allowed God and certain people’s advice to help them along. In other words they finally layed their burdens at the Lord’s feet like we are supposed to do. It isn’t an easy thing to do because we want to do it ourselves all of the time without His help!
That’s the problem with today’s world. God is shut out of too many things!
I strongly recommend this book!! NO compensations were received and all opinions are my own!
Call to Love is Mary A Felkins’s debut novel. For the most part I felt she did a good job of keeping the plot moving forward, however there were places that the pace needed to slow down to allow the reader to dig deeper into the setting. Taking into consideration that I’m having a harder time than normal getting into books right now while under quarantine, I never felt fully sucked into this one. There were parts that were just hard to follow and when you are already having a hard time focusing, I think those issues were magnified. The storyline itself was intriguing though, and I really liked the character development. I would recommend this to readers who especially love the fast pace for contemporary romance.

Learning to trust in God and love:
Tracy is determined she’s leaving town and never going to marry. She especially would never consider getting involved with a police officer which is a problem for Tom as he is a cop. Both are stubborn and have closed off their hearts to love and much personal growth is needed before these two can find a happily-ever-after. Personally I found Tracy’s adamancy not to marry because “death might prematurely part a couple” rather ridiculous and annoying. Tom also has his own issues which led me at times to want to knock these two heads together!
I did like how Tom’s teenage son was portrayed and felt that he added depth to the story. I also appreciated the reminder that we need to trust in the goodness of God’s heart.
While there was much to commend this debut novel, overall it fell a little short. It requires further editing as some sentences were clumsy, grammatically incorrect or confusing. The story line got bogged down at times but too many details or descriptive sentences. I also found the main characters actions rather confusing at times as they acted erratically and inconsistently to the character development shown on the page.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
5 things from Call to Love by Mary A. Felkins
1) An ER nurse bent on taking care of herself.
2) A cop determined to make a difference.
3) A horse named Cruiser
4) Being passed over for a promotion spurs Tracy on to her Plan B for life
5) “Living alone on Tracy island, raising her baby girl, had lost its appeal. Courage to risk her heart in love breached her lead apron.”
This book had some really sweet elements. The story and conflict was realistic and enjoyable. I found it to be overly descriptive at times, and I lost sight of the story several times due to the descriptions.
