Former U.S. marshal Rip Lane is called out of retirement to hunt down gunmen who killed two marshals and stole a spying device. One of the murdered marshals is Rip’s cousin. When Rip infiltrates an outlaw motorcycle club he descends into an underworld of criminal psychopaths where he stops at nothing to avenge the death of his cousin.
Have read all four books in this series. Kept thinking they would get better. Nope.
The dialogue is clunky, the situations unrealistic and the author has a real thing for lists of facts and throwing in facts that have nothing to do with moving the story along. And, trying to make Rip come off as funny or sexy just didn’t work for me.
From the way Rip talks and acts, he in no way resembles the author’s description of him. I just don’t see the character and the description matching up.
You can depend on hearing how buff Rip is and how he works out and runs. And, how all the women want him (as if). But, he does manage to find someone to sleep with in the books. And, you will learn vast quantities of facts about the Marshalls’ Service.
This is my first Rip Lane book but I will definitely be reading the others. From the synopsis, I wasn’t at all sure that I wanted to read this book. This is not my usual type of book but it looked interesting so I gave it a shot. I am so glad I did. What a great surprise. This book was a real page turner with lots of action and definitely worth reading. The main character was very real and interesting. Good story that progressed without much of the fluff and definitely entertaining. The one liners and play on words were exceptional and laugh out loud funny in places. Looking forward to future books by this author.
This book was just OK for me. My problem was that it was written by a man, so it’s the typical male writing that’s choppy with no emotion…very straightforward.
Quick read, likable characters. Narrative has a lot of short staccato sentences, but this style of writing works. Couple of small things that were a little off-putting, but not enough to spoil the entertainment value for me. Not sure if I will read the others, but if they are offered on Bookbub for a good price I might.
Combine an interesting story with a easy to like hero and you have California Bust. I recommend this without reservation.
A fast-past and entertaining book with unexpected development throughout. It finally comes into focus when Rip learns that the targeted drug dealers is the half-brother of a member of the outlaw motorcycle club Rip has infiltrated and that the person he killed in self-defense was a Marshal in NorCal protecting drug dealers.
this book was ok and it was readable. I felt like it lacked the depth it needed to make it a really good book
Sorry but I didn’t enjoy this book. I stopped reading after a few chapters.
No thinking required and that is a good thing
Didn’t like it
Good story. Kept my interest.
This book is fast-paced, action-packed, with the right amount of character building. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys crime drama books!!!
This action packed book will keep you on the edge of your chair! I highly recommend the book that is hard to put down!
This book grabbed me at the beginning, I enjoyed maybe the first 50%. Once this book had sunk to the “hero” being superhuman I skip read the rest of it just to make sure it was going to carry on in the same genre.
I cannot understand why modern day authors think that this kind of writing will appeal to adult audiences, the action sections have to be believable not just some fantasy idea of the author.
