Dr. Ree Ryland is an engineering professor who loves her job and plays by the rules. Her life is reassuringly predictable – until an enemy hiding in plain sight decides her squeaky-clean reputation is the perfect cover to commit a crime. When Agent Parker Landon and his FBI team discover that someone at the university has been procuring military-grade hardware by disguising it as test equipment, … equipment, all evidence points to Ree. After the FBI intercepts a shipment that puts Ree in the clear, Parker is forced to tell her that she’s being used as a pawn by an unseen enemy. And now she’s in that enemy’s crosshairs. Ree turns down the protective detail offered by the FBI and insists on using her inside knowledge to help with the investigation. Parker is leery of bringing a civilian on to the team, but he’s surprised at how much fun he has working with Ree, even as he tries to keep her out of harm’s way.Parker, Ree and the FBI team find increasingly worrying evidence that someone is quietly acquiring everything they need to cause destruction on a massive scale. Now, they must uncover the motive and identity of the killer hiding among Ree’s friends and colleagues before it’s too late.

The book was a refreshing read with mystery and intrigue and without the violence. I really enjoyed the book
I likes the premise, the characters are believable and reactions are realistic. Light romance added to mystery and mayhem.
Fast moving & interesting plot
Not enough action. To chatty
I thoroughly enjoyed this. The characters were alive & realistic. It was easy to follow, and I could fall in love with the FBI agent myself. It wasn’t just dry, the wit was fun, and it wasn’t so scary I couldn’t read it at midnight! 4 stars!!
Exciting International Terrorist Story
This fictional FBI/CIA story is rated PG, in my view. The story involves international intrigue. The story moves quickly with a well thought out plot, good character development, and a very satisfying ending. I read this as part of the Calculated Box Set.
I had a hard time putting it down.
Became bored and quit reading. Sounded good.
Have you ever had the urge to be commandeered into an FBI investigation into a potential missile builder on a college campus? Yeah me neither, but this was still a good story! It had a bit of a Bones vibe, but with a rocket scientist instead of a forensic anthropologist! Happy Reading!
This had a decent plot but at ties was too tally. Needed to be cleaned up as far as overall plot and length of descriptions.
a great summer read.
Just a fun read with interesting characters.
Dr. Ree Ryland is not your typical mystery-action hero. She is a professor of Engineering, specializing in auto crash safety systems. But she has a black belt, and a Glock in her purse. Just in case. She is also clever, a stickler for details, and attractive. A very intriguing combination.
In this story, Ree starts out under FBI surveillance, but quickly transitions to a member of the team of good guys trying to foil a plot to assemble short range missiles from smuggled parts. And you know those will not be used for peaceful or lawful purposes.
The story is engaging, the plot is complex enough but not hard to follow, and all the supporting characters are suited to their roles. The book is well written and we’ll edited, allowing for a smooth reading flow. There are plenty of details about Ree’s life and a believable romantic subplot that adds to the story.
Small leaps of believability aside, this is a pleasurable and interesting read that will keep you interested and leave you feeling satisfied in the end. It will also leave you wanting to read more books in this series. It’s not quite a five-star experience, but 4.5 for sure. Well done and a recommended read.
This book kept me in my toes!! Couldn’t stop reading!!
Like this series of Calculated …
Kept my attention.

Loved first 2 books in the series, can’t wait to read the next one!
I enjoyed this book, especially how Lee developed the characters of the FBI team.
