Venus Thibodeaux had a reputation for being trouble. Some said she started at birth. When she finally left Sinful shortly after turning eighteen, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. When she blew back into town four years later, no one was happy about her return. She immediately launched into her same old scams, picking off Sinful residents with ease before disappearing again as quickly as she¿d … she¿d appeared.
Everyone assumed she¿d headed back to New Orleans.
But when an accident at the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Run uncovers her body, everyone Venus took for a ride becomes a suspect. The man at the top of that list sees the writing on the wall and hires Fortune to figure out who killed Venus, before he goes to prison for a murder he didn¿t commit. Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie start poking around into Venus¿s complicated life, hoping to find the killer. And to solve their first official case.

I’ve become an avid fan of this writer. I prefer her books in audio, because characterization comes across perfectly and is extremely entertaining. Quirky ladies solve intriguing mysteries that take you in one direction then another and keep you guessing.
Cajun Fried Felony is the fifteenth book in Jana DeLeon’s Miss Fortune mystery series. Even the title is hilarious. When Fortune’s friend Gertie joins in Sinful, Louisianna’s turkey chase you just know things aren’t going to end well. Sure enough, the school basketball court is damaged and beneath the damage, a hand with a charm bracelet appears. Turns out to be the body of despised Venus Thibodeaux, a girl with a reputation for stealing husbands. Everyone hated Venus so the list of suspects is very long. At the top of the list, is Whiskey, owner of The Shack, a bar where Fortune has been more than a few times. Whiskey hires Fortune and company to investigate and find the real killer before he ends up in prison. Another wonderfully enjoyable read, I highly recommend the book.
Another fun book. I really enjoy this series. Mystery, romance and laughter. I highly recommend this book,
Murder and humor can go together for the win!
Love this series laugh out loud funny
Sinful’s annual turkey trot turns up a gruesome discovery that leads to Fortune’s first official case as a private eye. Considering the victim was hated by all the suspect list is overwhelming but Fortune and her sidekicks are up for the challenge.
Another great humorous mystery in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. You could read this as a stand alone but you’ll want to read all the books in the series.
This book, aside from the beginning, isn’t as funny or outlandish as the rest of the series. So, long time readers wanting that are undoubtedly not pleased. I like those books, but I still liked the more serious story line here.
Godzilla has been replaced by a parrot. I don’t remember the parrot from Bullets and Beads (the only one I’ve read after this one so far). So, he might have gotten the boot which is fine with me though I can see him coming in handy plot wise.
Love all her books. Can’t wait for the next one:)
I knew this was going to be a great book. I was so happy to see that Fortune has put some roots down in Sinful. Everyone is just enough crazy that I am sure she is going to have work for a lot of years to come. I wish the bird would have went to the bar with them. Fingers crossed he takes a few trips with them next book. I hope everyone picks up these books to read. I am always entertained. I hope that Carter and Fortune get some time to themselves next time. It seems their relationship needs some love.
I love the humor in this series. Looking forward to the next book.
This book was a hoot! Wonder characters that make you laugh out loud.
I think I have read waaaay to many cozies (as if that THAT can actually happen) because I had this figured out half way through. Had to finish it though cause there was no way I was missing a second of Gertie well, being Gertie and of course Ida Bell’s decision. Biting my nails waiting for the next book and since I borrow these from my local library it will be a while.
One of the best female mystery series!!! I love the characters. Keeps you laughing while reading good mystery.
Wonderful. Read ..funny antics and .mystery all rolled into one.
I look forward to her books. The characters are quirky, independent women who are every day hero’s. A little romance and lots of twists and misadventures. Also enjoy the southern setting.
I love this series! I cannot say enough good things about this book, this series. The plots are always fast paced with plenty of laughter thanks to Gertie. Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie have their first official case as private investigators in Sinful. With the discovery of a body under a basketball goal post at the Thanksgiving Turkey Run, thanks to Gertie, the owner of the Swamp Bar, Whiskey, hires Fortune to help prove that he didn’t do it. The finale twist took me totally by surprise. Oh, and that little announcement at the Thanksgiving dinner – oh, my. I cannot wait for the next the next book in the series.
I received a Kindle copy of this book from my library.
loved this book in the series…great plot line wonderful characters..so funny ..one of the best in this series..well worth the time and money spent…a very quick read could not put it down…read them all they will give you great enjoyment
I enioy reading every Miss Fortune book by Jana DeLeon! Can’t wait for the next one.
This series never gets dull or boring, it continues to be even more fun with each new story.
Jana Deleon has an awesome bunch of characters in her Miss Fortune Mysteries, they are all hilarious and just brilliant at solving mysteries in sometimes very unconventional ways.
Cajun Fried Felony had me in stitches from the first few pages I seriously love Gertie she is just amazing entertainment value and Ida Belle is always there to capture Gertie’s antics…lol
Fortune is really settling into her new life as a PI and a permanent Sinful resident I really can’t wait for more in this series it just continues to get better with every story.
Carter was surprising in many ways and they were all good ways, I’m really looking forward to reading more from him and Fortune.
Great series.
