A warm, Christmassy, lighthearted cozy mystery with a touch of magic!
What a delightful novella! I loved the length. I have really discovered novella’s. As long as they’re well-developed (and this one definitely was!) I’m a fan!
Murder in a Christmas Village. What a quirky place, with quirky people with quirky names! The tone was lightheared and the setting super Christmassy. I loved it!
When an elf is found murdered behind her shop, Aunt Phoebe is acting strange. Ember is determined to find the killer.
I was immediately pulled into a warm Christmassy atmosphere. Of snow (the pretty kind, not the nasty-clogging-up-the-roads kind), and blankets, and hot cocoa. And I immediately loved Ember who is spreading kindness. Kindness matters. And she’s very endearing with her insecurities. Ember is from Silver Hollow. This new series is a spin-off from the Silver Hollow series. And Brimstone! He plays a big part, but mind you: he’s not a familiar! That would mean he belongs to someone. Nope. But familiar or not, his skills are much-needed! What fun to read about! A great read! Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and the characters interacted well with each other. I need to read more by this author
This is an intertaining Christmas cozy mystery involving Ember Quinn and Brimstone the cat from the author’s Silver Hollow Cozy Mysteries Box Set, #1-3. Quinn visits her great-aunt Phoebe, who lives in Christmas Village, to help her make enough candy for the Christmas holidays. The murder of an elf sends the pair on the hunt for the killer because the small-town’s police are zeroing in on Phoebe.
There are several characters that could’ve been the guilty party–from the toy store owner who didn’t want the elves to go on strike and even great-aunt Phoebe and Mabel, the owner of the of the Christmas stocking store, since they would have to go on strike with the elves but would reap none of the benefits the elves would receive.
It’s been awhile since I was in Silver Hollows and it was fun to see Quinn and of the full-of-himself Brimstone again. This is a novella which makes it a quick afternoon/evening read.
I always like Leighann Dobbs’ books because they are entertaining and fun to read.
Since this was Christmas related it was a little bit out there comparatively but still kept your interest.
Ember Quinn from the Silver Hollow series has gone to Christmas Village to assist her great-aunt Phoebe with her chocolate shop for the Christmas season. Aunt Phoebe opens the back door to take out the trash and discovers the body of elf Alfie Svenson holding chocolates. He was killed with a sleigh bell.
When Detective Winters and Detective Noel come to investigate they have lots of questions for Aunt Phoebe.
Alfie was the Union Rep at the toy factory. He was trying to avoid a strike at the toy factory. Greg and Tommy Rinch own the toy factory. However, Greg is buying Tommy out. Stan, an elf, is the union treasurer and toy factory accountant. It appears Alfie felt something was amiss at the factory and someone was helping him investigate.
Ember wants to solve the murder so she can show her cousins Gray and Issy Quinn in Silver Hollow that she can solve a murder on her own. Ember and Aunt Phoebe question Stan. Ember put a magic spell on the candy they delivered to Stan so he would take a little nap while they looked around his office. The also question Tinsel Bright, the receptionist at the toy factory and Yule Navidad who runs the reindeer transport company.
There are several suspects to question. This is a quick paced book that you won’t want to put down until you discover who killed Alfie.
I received an advance copy of this book. This is my honest review.
