From bestselling and multi-award-winning romantic suspense author Amanda McKinney comes the first book in the steamy, edge-of-your-seat, three-part series, Steele Shadows Security… Cabin 2, Cabin 3…
Cocky, reckless, and die-hard playboy are just a few of the names Gage Steele has been called since he and his brothers left the Marines and moved back to the small, southern town of Berry Springs to take over their father’s personal security firm. On the one-year anniversary of his father’s death, Gage had only two things in mind—endless whiskey and endless women, but what he got was a battered, bruised spitfire stumbling through woods in the middle of the night.
Newly-appointed prosecutor and unapologetic workaholic, Niki Avery has spent her life working toward one goal—never to have to depend on anyone but herself… until the day she gets brutally attacked on the side of the road. Stripped of her Louis Vuitton and her dignity, the fiercely independent ADA must submit to being under the watchful eye of a former Marine, a loose cannon with a temper as scorching as his ruggedly handsome good looks.
As cracks begin to show in the Steele family, including newly discovered evidence that their father’s death was no accident, Gage wrestles with his growing feelings for his client, knowing not only that Niki is off-limits, but together, they were like gasoline and fire—an explosion he wanted nothing more than to ignite in the bedroom. But when a pair of bloody body parts show up at the compound, it becomes clear that Niki’s attacker hasn’t given up and Gage realizes he’ll do anything to keep her safe… even as his own family is spiraling out of control.
Cabin 1 is the first book in the 3-part Berry Springs spinoff series, STEELE SHADOWS SECURITY—Think of it as Berry Springs’ darker, grittier, steamier, BAD BOY brother. Please note: You do not need to read the Berry Springs Series first.

Cabin 1 is a terrific romantic suspense novel with a killer ending. I wasn’t aware that it was a spin off but it stands well on its own. Action, mystery and love. Well worth the read. Can’t wait for the next installment.
Well this book took off with a bang and never eased off on the throttle at all A suspenseful ride that had you turning the pages as fast as you could.
Niki is an assistant district attorney who is run off the road by two men she kills one in self defence but the other is chasing her into the woods What she doesn’t know is that this land belongs to Steele Shadow Security A company that has recently been taken over by four ex military brothers on the death of their father. Gabe is the brother that gets to her first after the alarm sounds that there is a intruder. he is tasked with her protection until the man who escaped is apprehended. Confines together it isn’t long before the attraction between them ignites but can Gabe believe her story about the attack. You will have to read to see what will happen to this pair and also the other Steele brothers
A friend lent me The Fog and Cabin 1 and I am hooked on Berry Springs. The characters were in engaging and left me wanting more. I love the Steele brothers and can’t wait to read more about them.
Cabin 1 is a romantic thriller about four brothers that run a security company that they inherited from their father. The Steele brothers, ex marines are having a hard time coming to the fact that their father has passed. Each one dealing with it, the best way they know how. Gage drinks way too much and uses women as much as a guy uses toilet paper. It’s his survival mode. When one night alarms go off and someone on their land. Niki Avery was coming off a relaxful weekend, when she was viciously attacked. To get away from her would be murderer, she runs straight into the woods, for hours. When she sees lights up in the mountains that’s where she headed. Gage always suspicious wondering if she really got attacked or she trying to get attention and cry wolf. He doesn’t know which and his brothers whispering conspiracies, after all Niki comes from a crazy, liar of a man. Her family has a bad name in the town and they don’t know if they can trust her.
Can I just say, I loved this story. Amanda McKinney writing style makes a lasting impression on you. Although this book was a serious matter they had some funny bits that I loved. Gage is a hot tamale, strong alpha, and needs to learn to cool down being demanding. Niki is a strong female lead, who is independent and fights for it. The two of them are gasoline and fire, that’s for sure and made you wander throughout the book who would burn first. This plot was suspenseful, unpredictable and very original. I did not predict the ending at all by far. This book does end in a cliffhanger, but I don’t mind much because honestly I need recovery time. McKinney is a new to me author and I promise she won’t stay in that category for long.
Very good start to a new series that is intense, action filled and dramatic. Niki Avery and Gage Steele from the moment they meet walk a tightrope of tension, volatility and attraction. She’s been targeted by danger, he feels bound to protect her. The story encompasses their burgeoning relationship and the menace that is coming and closer to Berry Springs. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Nikki is assaulted and while running for her life ends up on the Steele brothers property and under Gages protection. Gage has to help her find who is after her while dealing with startling and disturbing family revelations. The story switches back and forth between Nikki and Gage in a first person point of view.
Intense. Remarkable characters. Enjoyable.
Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Romantic. Steamy. Tragic. Wonderful characters.
I just loved this book !! It has great characters, and I was hooked from the first page, you just can’t put i away once you start reading, and when I finished it I was angry with myself for reading so fast I can’t wait for the next book in this series, great balance between suspense and romance, loved the atmosphere of the book and the way it was written! Big Amanda McKinney fan now
Devoured this in one reading. It starts off with a tension filled scene and just gets better and better. There definitely are plenty of sizzling hot alpha males and a smart independent female who all packed a punch. They were all relatable characters, and even though Gage has quite an ego, comparing himself to a greek god at one point, but it works for him, he has too much baggage to work through and it is like a mask he wears. Then there are two mysteries going on, one gets solved in this book and the second one continues to the next book. The two mysteries are independent of each other and both had me fully engaged. There also was some symbolism of a red leaf throughout the story, it just clicked and had meaning, It was so well done, I loved it.
You can’t help but love the Steele boys, they are all going to make great main characters. Be prepared for a little raw language and some steamy love scenes, well worth the read, and looking forward to the mystery to unravel in the next book.
I’m gonna start by saying that Marines, whether active duty or not, are close to my heart . My son and daughter are both active Marines. OH MY GOODNESS !! I absolutely LOVED everything about this book ! You get some of your own opinions of what you think is gonna happen and let me tell you Amanda threw them all out the window. The twists and turns in this book are amazing. The writing is so descriptive and intense that I felt like I was the main characters…it’s absolutely phenomenal!!!! I was hooked from the very first sentence. I just knew I was gonna be reading the seat of my pants intense, suspenseful and invigorating book. And let me just say Amanda was spot on !! WOW !! I’m so overwhelmed how much this book got my heart pounding and every time someone texted me I was upset I had to stop reading I just couldn’t help it. I HAD TO KEEP READING IT !! Gage and Niki were amazing characters. I mean the rage that Gage had was off the charts but the passion he had for Niki was just as intense but in a good way. Niki was a firecracker that’s for sure. Gotta love a strong woman !! And before I got to the end I knew I had to read the next book…unfortunately I have to wait til later. And the ending BLEW MY MIND !! Such intensity there. I can’t say enough good things about this book it was AMAZING, AWESOME, TERRIFIC, FANTASTIC, MARVELOUS …you get the point !! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING !! YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS BOOK !!
I received this book as a(n) BETA/ARC book for my voluntary and honest review
A terrific beginning!
Talk about how to begin a new series, this is a perfect example. Not only will you love the main characters, especially Niki and Gage, you’ll also be introduced to the rest of Gage’s brothers. After a serious attempt is made on her life, Gage takes her into his care by putting her in one of the secure cabins on the family’s grounds. There is so much going on that it’s hard to put it down for even a minute. Hopefully the next book in this series will be out quickly!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Someone is trying to kill Niki and she finds her way through the woods to the Steele Shadows Security compound as she trying to escape. They are trying to keep her safe but there are so many twists and turns in trying to figure out who wants to hurt her.
The author has created characters that you want to know more about. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Another great book that starts off a new series for Amanda McKinney. Cabin 1 is a faced paced romantic suspense starring a family of four brothers who are each dealing differently with the one year anniversary of the death of their beloved father. They have left their military careers and have taken over the reins of Steele Shadows Security, that their father founded after leaving a career with NSA. ADA Niki Avery is run off the road one night, assaulted by two men, one of whom she then kills trying to defend herself, then has to run into woods to avoid being killed herself by the second man. She eventually stumbles onto the property of SSS. The brothers race toward their intruder and Gage reaches her first. After bringing Niki back to the family mansion/SSS Headquarters, Niki relates all she has been through. She is placed under Gage’s protection and in Cabin 1 till her assailant can be apprehended. As danger, attacks and suspense mounts, so does the “fire and gasoline” combustion of Niki and Gage’s feelings and sexual chemistry. The book is not only concerned with Gage’s and Niki’s story, but also includes a dastardly subplot that I anticipate to run in the background of the future books, Cabin 2 and Cabin 3. I was fixated on this story and could not put it down till I got to the last page. I am anxiously awaiting Cabin 2 and reading more about this family and all they encounter. I highly recommend this book along with Amanda McKinney’s other Berry Springs stories. I was given an ARC in return for my honest review.
