An irresistible story from Kasie West that explores the timeless question: What do you do when you fall for the person you least expect? When Autumn Collins finds herself accidentally locked in the library for an entire weekend, she doesn’t think things could get any worse. But that’s before she realizes that Dax Miller is locked in with her.Autumn doesn’t know much about Dax except that he’s … much about Dax except that he’s trouble. Between the rumors about the fight he was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he’s not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Still, she just keeps reminding herself that it is only a matter of time before Jeff, her almost-boyfriend, realizes he left her in the library and comes to rescue her.
Only he doesn’t come. No one does.
Instead it becomes clear that Autumn is going to have to spend the next couple of days living off vending-machine food and making conversation with a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except there is more to Dax than meets the eye.
As he and Autumn at first grudgingly, and then not so grudgingly, open up to each other, Autumn is struck by their surprising connection. But can their feelings for each other survive once the weekend is over and Autumn’s old life, and old love interest, threaten to pull her from Dax’s side?

The portrayal of anxiety was so realistic!
Loved this read. My first Kasi West book and I’ve read a bunch since then. Liked them all. Fun story, good characters that you like, and good dialogue.
While not my favorite Kasie West book, you’ll still get everything you’d expect from one of her stories with By Your Side: quick, witty dialogue, an endearing narrator, and of course, an adorable romance!
This book brought an interesting perspective to the popular-girl-meets-troubled-boy typical story line in that it featured supportive friendships and brought a more amicable feeling to the traditional poor friendships “popular” kids tend to have with other popular kids. However, the entire story line was too predictable and nothing was really developed and the story finished with a too-quick resolution with many loose ends.
I think that this book can really be sold out to alot of middle schoolers and to people that are into drama and romance
Absolutely loved this book, ended up speeding through it in less than two days because I just loved living in this world. The characters are great, plot twists were unexpected, and the romance is so well done and adorable. Also, props for having realistic main characters with real life problems and shitty situations.
Where do I begin? This book was downright painful in the beginning, but it had good ratings so I figured I should stick with it. Did it pay off? Weeellllll……by about half way through I began to have some hope. It didn’t really get much better than that. I just kept reading and being hopeful.
Ok, here’s one of the good things…there were milkshakes in this story!!! Really good milkshakes, according to the characters. Another good thing was they were locked in a library!!! How many times do you wish you could be locked in a library?!?! Sadly, being locked in a library was just the setting. It really could’ve been anywhere. The school gym/locker room, the mall, just about anywhere. Well, I think that about does it for the good things.
Now for the annoying things…the characters! Autumn was so whiney there were times I wanted to scream. Dax was her opposite, I think I kept reading just to find out more about him. Autumn has some of the most obnoxious friends known to mankind. Dax has no friends, but hey, at least there’s no one to be annoying. No one in this story knows how to communicate, they are superficial and immature. Oh, wait, this is a young adult novel. I take it back. They’re supposed to be superficial and immature with no communication skills. Nevermind. There’s plenty more annoying things, but you’ll have to read the book yourself to find them out. =P (I applauded myself when I finished this book!)
