In this second exciting and entertaining book in The Dragon Portal series by Jamie A Waters, the main characters change to one demon, one dragon, one pixie, and one fae queen. As Bane, Malek, Blossom and Sabine continue their search for the relics to close the Dragon portal and hopefully stop another war, the characters are put through several very challenging physical and magical tests during their adventure. Along the way new alliances are formed, betrayal is found, and magic is changed but is it for better or worse. That my friends will hopefully be answered in book 3 coming this fall. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.
Having narrowly escaped in her last adventure, our heroine is once again thrown into the action when attacked by merfolk.
This is the second book in the series so a fine place to start.
This is a fantasy story with a rich and diverse setting that gets a bit more depth with each book, rather literally here as we have merfolk. The story is well written and easy to read with lots of elements to explore. The characters also have hidden depths and I am always excited when we learn a bit more about them. The plot is full of action, intrigue and mystery which grabbed my attention at the start and never let go. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and look forward to more.
Highly recommended.

I thought book 1 was good well book 2 is amazing! The characters the world so well written I couldn’t put this down!!
Wow. Just wow. This intricate story will make your mind revel in this authors mind with every turn of the page. So many layers of amazing, jaw dropping ohhh’s and ahh’s, it’s impossible to keep up! I cannot wait for book three! #greedyfan!
I loved the complex world the characters live in and how the story developed. I thought I knew where the plot would go in this book but I was (happily) wrong. This is a great second book and I’m eagerly awaiting the next!

A fae, a dragon, and a pixie walk into a desert to save a Pearl and so the story continues. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
A fae, a dragon, and a pixie walk into a desert to save a Pearl. They walk out with a group of prisoners, or maybe refugees, desperate to return to the sea. An unforeseen alliance will give them another of the artifacts that will let them close the Dragon Portal and prevent the return of the gods, and a devastating war. Sabine and Malek have forged an even closer bond, but that new connection may have unexpected, and possible devastating consequences.
Wonderfully well written, intriguing, and absolutely fascinating characters. Wow! Exciting, action packed read filled with magic, and surprising twists. Fantastic book!
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
Even Better than book 1!
“By Blood and Magic” is a continuation of the storyline from “To Kill a Fae” and does not disappoint. This fast-paced and intriguing tale is even better than the first. Sabine is coming into her own and her strength is showing. Malek is the perfect companion for Sabine and I can’t wait for the next installment of this tale!

I loved being back with Sabine and Malek and of course the amazing Pixie Blossom ! This started so strongly with an epic battle at sea involving Merpeople and it only continues to delight as the couple go on a quest hoping to save their captured friends . Along the way they encounter tribes that are anything but friendly on their journey towards a settlement that has nasty plans for magic users. Getting out alive is going to be a tricky thing but with a deal struck with the Merpeople not to mention a Goddess to appease the couple are still to face their hardest challenge yet. With their time sensitive task our favourite Fae Sabine and her Dragon ally Malek face constant danger but never fear because there’s still time for romance !
This started with a bang and was unpredictable so I can definitely say it was very entertaining and full of surprises. A lot less from the Demons compared to the first book but Blossom more than made up for that, plus who doesn’t want to read about Mermaids ?
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Wow! Seriously WOW! I received an advance copy of this amazing book and now I can’t wait for Book #3 in this series. From the very first page there was action and adventure and mystery and all things wonderful in a book.
By Blood and Magic starts where Book #1 of this series left off, but with a whole new location and a whole new adventure. As much as I love to read, I don’t tend to get this excited about a series. I’m so glad to see there are more upcoming books in the works! This Dragon Portal series is everything I want and love in a book series. The characters are amazing and there is magic, demons, dragons, merfolk, mystery, adventure, romance and a touch of humor with the pixie, Blossom. I love the worlds this author has created and how new alliances are being formed with each new adventure. And I loved how the different cultures were shown to the reader, and how these characters came to be as they are. Fascinating how I could visualize it all!
The story starts off with the ship they are traveling on coming under attack with prisoners being taken and a trade being negotiated, all the while keeping the main objective to seal the portal in sight. Without giving away any spoilers, let me tell you that as soon as you think Sabine and Malek are safe, another danger is thrown at them. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t wait to get to the end to find out what happens but at the same time not wanting it to end! I can’t wait for more! Pre-ordering Book #3 now!
I received this novel from Booksprouts as an ARC. Thank you!
This novel was a great sequel. I enjoyed the characters and had a few laughs. Blossom, the pixie provides some good commentary. Sabine, Malek, Bane, and others are travelling on Marek’s ship when they are attacked. People Malek and Sabine care about are taken by the Merfolk and Sabine strikes a deal to save them. Malek, a dragon, and Sabine, a Fae, should be enemies, for the Fae and dragons were at war, where there was much destruction. Malek and Sabine grow much closer in this novel, for they have been attracted to each other since the moment they met. Sabine and the others must keep the portals from opening, otherwise chaos will reign. Sabine, Malek, and Blossom have adventures and meet some new characters along the way that will impact their current path. As they get closer to discovering the truth, there are those who will do everything to stop them. Looking forward to the next novel in the series!
