Dominic was staring at me like he couldn’t decide whether to chop me into pieces or pull my hair and French kiss me.
Dominic
I got her fired. Okay, so I’d had a bad day and took it out on a bystander in a pizza shop. But there’s nothing innocent about Ally Morales. She proves that her first day of her new job… in my office… after being hired by my mother.
So maybe her colorful, annoying, … colorful, annoying, inexplicably alluring personality brightens up the magazine’s offices that have felt like a prison for the past year. Maybe I like that she argues with me in front of the editorial staff. And maybe my after-hours fantasies are haunted by those brown eyes and that sharp tongue.
But that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be the next Russo man to take advantage of his position. I might be a second-generation asshole, but I am not my father.
She’s working herself to death at half a dozen dead-end jobs for some secret reason she doesn’t feel like sharing with me. And I’m going to fix it all. Don’t accuse me of caring. She’s nothing more than a puzzle to be solved. If I can get her to quit, I can finally peel away all those layers. Then I can go back to salvaging the family name and forget all about the dancing, beer-slinging brunette.
Ally
Ha. Hold my beer, Grumpy Grump Face.
Author’s Note: A steamy, swoony workplace romantic comedy with a grumpy boss hero determined to save the day and a plucky heroine who is starting to wonder if there might actually be a beating heart just beneath her boss’s sexy vests.

Audio review
This is my book by Lucy Score and it won’t be the last. I absolutely loved By a Thread. I would stay up late listening to this book.
I loved this book! Could not put it down, no really the days slipped away from me. I was glued to this book. Emotional, steamy, and funny! This author knows what she is doing!
After listening to the first few chapters thought I’d made a huge mistake. I found Allie and Dominic to be mostly unlikable people and had to stop listening. I only started again when I needed something to listen to while walking the dog. So glad I continued. What a fun, humorous, listen filled with crazy, kind, loving, loyal people and some truly appropriate revenge. Oh and so much love. So adorable. If you need a light book about some heavy subjects that will make you feel good and laugh download the audiobook. Terrific narration makes it a wonderful listen.
Lucy Score is truly a master in laugh out loud romantic comedies! This is a wonderful book! A funny and sexy enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy. The first book I read of Lucy but will definitely not be the last!!
By a Thread is a deliciously heartwarming, hilarious and fun enemies to lovers/workplace romance. It features a broody boss and sassy heroine that I couldn’t get enough of. It is a love letter to women and the ‘me-too’ movement and the author executed it perfectly with a ton of comedy and heat. The slow burn in this one was delicious and so worth the wait. A top favourite this year!
This book!! I adore all of Lucy’s books, but By a Thread is my favorite! What a story Lucy told! Dom and Ally…words can’t describe how much I love them! Dominic is the grumpy face hero we all need in life! He is such a complex character and I fell in love with him! And Ally…what a story she has! Her story broke my heart and made me cry many times over! I have so many feels from these two together, and they just warmed my heart!! And you can’t forget sweet Brownie! Grumpy grumpy face is my favorite hero and this is hands down one of my favorite books! Lucy outdid herself
Oh, Drunk Dom. I love him so. This book is so good, so sweet, so steamy, just everything you want in a really excellent romance.
O.M.G…..Dominic and Ally are pure chemistry!
I don’t know why I waited so long to start this story and I am so mad I read it so fast. From the beginning we are introduced to Dominic and Ally and they are at each other’s throats from the get go. The banter back and forth between them is so sexually charged.
Ally is struggling to make ends meet between making sure her dad’s bills are paid so he can stay in the nursing home he is in, remodeling his house so she can sell it and somehow still have money for herself. She has many odd jobs but finds herself loosing one of those jobs due to a certain Grumpy Grump Face customer but then his mother steps in with an opportunity that Ally simply cannot pass up.
Dominic has secrets and anger surrounding his heart. From the moment he meet Ally he clashes with her and ends up getting her fired. Suffice it to say he is not a happy camper when he sees Ally is now working at his mother’s company. As much as she irritates him she intrigues him even more. He soon finds himself unable to stay away from her yet setting some hard rules to be followed.
Soon the attraction becomes too much between Dominic and Ally and their worlds become one. There are ups and downs, trust issues, complete swoon worthy one liners and hot, hot, hot bedroom scenes. The way that their relationship evolves had me almost in tears at some points and completely infuriated at others. Dominic’s character builds for the better so much…he melted my heart and I felt bad for him so many times. This is a HEA you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
Loved this story. Be prepared to laugh and curse out loud!
Wow! This story grabbed my heart. Ally is keeping down four or five jobs to try and keep her dad in a great caring facility. So many people had stood on her and abused her over the last year and she is hanging on by a thread. Dom is the stoic “it was all my fault hero” with a grumpy face and bad attitude.
Their meeting in George’s pizza was bitter sweet -bitter as he was rude and gets her fired; sweet as she is feisty and serves up a great pizza …… This is also the start of a great romance with a hero hiding his soft and nurturing heart.
Loved the way the main characters interacted. Laughed out loud
Another tear-jerker by Lucy Score that I couldn’t put down. Wowsers!
This story has it all! You want a romance that is funny, heartbreaking, will make you angry and frustrated, and ends it a great happily ever after, them read this. Loved it. It was everything.
What can I say…I laughed, I cried, I felt a gamut of emotions while read Grumpy Grump Face. I absolutely loved Dom and Ally, together, apart, and all the in between. Ally was such a strong person, handed a crap hand by life but working her ass off to make the best of the situation. Dom comes across as an arrogant egotistical jerk, but he is far from it. Jaded yes, and insufferably frustrating at moments. But he redeems himself tenfold. I love everything Lucy Score writes, but I really and truly think that Dom might be my favorite hero she has written. There is just something about him once he gets out of his own head. Give By A Thread a read, you will not be disappointed.
Biggest book hangover of 2020!!
A great enemies to lovers story. Ally trying to keep her father in a nursing home, is fired from
a pizza parlor after she writes a foul message on Dominic’s pizza. Dominic calls the manager
and complains and gets Ally fired. So that leads to Dominic’s mother to intercede and hire
Ally to work at her magazine where Dominic also works. Ally, who takes no prisoners
will give Dominic more then he can handle. I really enjoyed the banter and story line Ms.
Score gave this book. It took a while to get there but to see how Ally changes Dominic’s view
of her and he softens towards Ally. Together they try to find even ground and give each other
what they need. I do like the way Dominic becomes protective and wants to give Ally every
thing. The ending is sweet and takes a while to get to but it is worth the wait. Enjoy a great
read.
I have heard so much about this book since ARCs were sent out and it’s been suggested so many times by people and Amazon but yet I’m just reading it. I absolutely loved this story from the very beginning with the first stand-off to the very end.
I loved the banter and everything chronologically made sense and was believable which made the story all more addicting. The chemistry was off the charts even when they were a couple it was still off the charts. Both Dominic and Ally grew as people so much and they both had baggage they had to get past and both had to fight how they’d always coped and how to get past it so they could have a relationship. This is my first time reading Lucy Score and it will not be the last after enjoying this book so much. This is a book I’ll reread and buy the audiobook so I can listen to it also.
Absolutely lovely and hilarious!! A must-read!
As always, Lucy brings attention to important issues and I always love that she includes diverse characters.
Let me start this review with these two statements.
A. I will be forever indebted and eternally grateful to my dear friend Spice for pointing out By a Thread to me.
B. Isn’t finding a fabulous new-to-you author with a bunch of books already published the best thing ever??!!
There’s the enemy-to-lovers trope and then there is Ally and Dominic. Boy, you’re in for a treat with this office romance. The chemistry is so ridiculously hot I can’t even. The banter and shouting matches? Perfection. And it will give you all the feel. ALL. THE. FEELS.
So, Ally is in a bit of a financial situation which has led to her working a ridiculous amount of different jobs. Not one to suffer fools or hold her tongue, she ends up getting fired from one of her jobs for the way she dealt with a fancy entitled asshole. Fortunately, this leads to her getting a pretty sweet gig… the catch? The fancy jerkface works there too!
Dominic is dealing with a lot of crap in his life. He’s a pressure cooker on the verge of bursting and the rude as hell server with the sexy hair is the one that pushes him off the ledge. Color him surprised when he runs into her in his mother’s office as a new admin hire.
What follows is an epic battle of wills, witty banter, hopeless fighting of their attraction and some hot AF sex.
I totally adored both Ally and Dom. She didn’t have a shy bone in her body, did not mince her words and had a stubborn streak a mile wide. She was also caring, loyal and funny as all hell.
Dom was fighting some mighty issues which were compounded by his circumstances. But underneath the cold, uncaring façade he had the largest, most loving heart ever.
Their relationship, from the head-butting-start, the scorchingly hot middle, to that sweet, sweet ending was perfect. Everything in this book worked for me in a major way, I couldn’t put it down and ended up daring a zombie workday by staying up until 5 am to finish it.
By a Thread had me going through all the emotions, from longing, despair and heartbreak to joy and laughter. All while seriously fanning myself because damn, their sexy shenanigans… I can’t wait to jump into Ms. Score’s backlog and begin stalking her on social media!
